Instantly annoyed
19 April 2024
I watched very little of this but can immediately pick up on drastically reduced quality between this and the similarly titled 1990s film. At this point i'm desperately trying to be as verbose as possible to meet requirements here, but the quick character introductions are quite annoying. Adam Brody's intro to Leighton should turn-off any conscious human being. Though Leighton's intro was rather ham-fisted as well. Zero nuance into the early scenes. Has pop culture hit rock bottom? Did we get so lazy and fragmented with new releases every week that we stop to examine things? Slow down, evaluate, and take us back in time,

Celtic Pride (1996)

Nice little comfort watch.
15 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is something I could watch once a year, but I don't really know why. Stern/Aykroyd do a great job as Celtics fanatics and Wayans pulls off a somewhat believable NBA superstar (Kind of a Marbury or Gary Payton-esque player). Anyways, the plot is absurd and direction is weak. Some funny bits of conversation during the hostage holdover at Aykroyd's apartment. Stern is really funny at times with his courtside yelling and intensity. But what a lazy piece of plot this is. How they stretched this to 90 minutes is beyond me. The ending is ridiculously bad with the two mains despite their lifelong commitment to the Celtics, pull for Utah and celebrate with the Jazz as happy ending climactic music plays out! That is awful!!

Overall i'll watch it again because it's a breezy comfort comedy, but it is objectively not a good movie and the ending was poorly conceived.

Plop is so awkward
10 October 2022
Actress is great, cool woodsy atmosphere, unexpected twists. But every time this guy is on camera I roll my eyes. There's somethin about this guy, and I don't like his general persona. Awkward addition to The Office, and in this he plays the same character, only with some forced extra dimensions the writers dictated. At first it was Ok, he gets some sympathy because direction indicated she was the troubled one, then it takes this bizarre sci-fi turn and all reality is out the window. I hope other people cheered at the cliff scene midway through to remove Plop from the remaining run time, oh well.

Cringeworthy
14 August 2022
Checked watch multiple times during this lame attempt at dramaric rom-com. Have never seen a theater more relieved it was over. Direction-less, poor screenplay, awkward dialogue. A stain on every actors career involved.

YES MA'AM
16 April 2022
So very bad. 10,000 reaction shots recycled because they have no plot structure or story. This movie is 2% sharks, and they are cartoons. Everyone making comments here is a better actor than those in movie. Are they intentionally this wooden? Great movie in certain state of mind., but giant POS.

Not so Fab, but interesting
24 February 2022
As a Beatlemaniac I was very looking forward to this. Curious on their writing process in time of strain and last ditch efforts for final release. Some of the conversations and developing songs are interesting. Overall this is way too long, sprawling, so much filler on their way to a pretty mediocre album in Let it Be. If we only had a doc on the '65-68 period when they hit their peak. I really dislike the constant goofing off, and sloppy rockabilly, attempts at covers when jamming, and the ballady stuff that McCartney put out from this era. They did rally one final time for Abbey Road, but this footage is certainly not going to convert anyone who's not already a Beatle fan. Pretty weak outing musically by the greatest band of all time.

Carnage and laughs
16 October 2021
This movie is a mixed bag. Very strong intro, brutal kills, great flashbacks and atmosphere. The writing and subplots left much to be desired. A bit too much humor thrown in without balanced tension and suspense. The final 20 minutes of Halloween 2018 were superb, and this follow-up did not reach those heights. This installment, which in my opinion is vastly better than most entries (5, H20, Resurrection, remakes, Curse of) does not reach upper echelon of the cannon with it's plot being all over the place, an overdone hospital non-Myers mob chase, and too many theater laughs. I hope they go back to the drawing board and search for that elusive Carpenter-suspense. All in all 6/10. Myers was fantastic, the gore was great, but I miss The Shape lurking and steady building suspense.

My favorite movie
18 June 2021
As a kid I was only interested in seeing the demonic scenes with Reagan. But as an adult, every single detail, line, direction, score, atmosphere IS SO GOOD. I rewatch this once a year.

Middle of the pack
18 October 2020
H20 gets too much acclaim when looking at series installments. The mask is horrible, characters are annoying, too much focus on Laurie's struggle, and after the opening sequence (awesome by the way) it is so dull until final 20 minutes. I would only put this one above H5, H6, H8. H2018 was way better. This is a pg-13 made for tv movie

Some laughs early on
10 August 2020
If you like really stupid humor, and I do, this will give you some chuckles. Overall throughout movie I was asking myself who greenlit this movie though. It is incredibly stupid and a contender with even Battlefield Earth for stupidity. 2nd half of movie the laughs dry up and it is incredibly dull.

Awful

Laughable how bad this is. Have been intrigued enough to watch several times and cannot make it 20 minutes in.

Halloween II (1981)
6/10
Ok sequel. Lacks suspense and tension of original.
7 October 2018
The gore is upped in this one. There are a couple of good stalks in the hospital but character development and the payoff isn't here as in original. Dr. Loomis and Laurie are great. Some very unecessary kills too. I don't mind how they establish that Laurie is Michael's sister but a direct followup on the same night as original doesn't seem to work. I wish a little time had lapsed and they followed similar plot-builds as H1. The ending chase scene should have gone on longer, those are the best parts. Trying to hide from Michael when he's lurking is effective. Random kill scenes of characters we dont care about was let-down and sign of the slasher times it seems. Overall 6/10.

Misery (1990)
9/10
Tense thriller, simple plot, well acted.
6 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Love this movie and I've watched it a handful of times over the years. Set in a rural upstate snowy mountain town, writer Paul Sheldon finishes work on his latest novel. When leaving his cabin, a storm catches up and he wrecks flying over the edge of a mountain pass burying his car in the snow and immobilizing him. Local resident Annie Wilkes rescues him and he wakes up in her house on a farm. Annie seems very nice and is an unabashed fan of his but slowly her obsessive and unstable side appears after she has read a draft of his latest novel. Paul is unable to really get around. It really gets interesting once he makes several attempts to escape or incapacitate Wilkes. My only real critique is how Sheriff Buster connects the dots to Wilkes holding him captive or at least suspicion of this. There also could have been some added depth and not an 18-month lapse after he finally overcomes Wilkes capture. Still, a top-notch thriller and a great watch during the winter months!
