The X-Files: El Mundo Gira (1997)
Season 4, Episode 11
3/10
Cooking "El Mundo Gira"
15 May 2016
Donald Trump's favorite episode of the X-Files serves Americans and takes forty-five minutes to prepare.

Begin with the Chupacabra legend and numerous stereotypical illegal immigrants.

Liberally add over acting to well past taste.

Sprinkle in several packets of good looking special effects.

Disregard, mock, and patronize all non white/American characters until their understanding of the world is entity discredited and seen as just something that "those people believe".

Immediately add scientific grounding to all events as justification for the righteousness of Mulder and Scully's actions.

Randomly add some aliens before serving because why not?

The X-Files: The Field Where I Died (1996)
Season 4, Episode 5
4/10
Cooking "The Field Where I Died"
14 May 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Blend the events of Waco and Jonestown until smooth.

Sprinkle in a generous helping of Sybil as well as two portions of the Civil War. Stir briefly.

Once mixture is lumpy pour into an X-Files shaped mold.

Cook at a dangerously dull heat for forty-five minutes or until you get sick of waiting for something interesting to happen.

Remove from heat and frost with Cheesy Love Story.

Serves only those with very little artistic discretion or those who have no prior knowledge of cults.

Please see our other "Cooking Film" recipes if "The Field Where I Died" left a bad taste in your mouth.

F Is for Family (2015–2021)
7/10
Bleak and smart, but not that funny.
21 December 2015
"F is for Family" is another in the long line of animated family comedies in the tradition of "King of the Hill". Compared to its contemporaries the humor is sparse, the family drama grim to the point of being uncomfortable, and the the larger world threateningly accurate. Some bright spots of the show include its biting satire of racism, sexism, and the past in general. Nothing is spared having the layers of nostalgia peeled away in an effort to remind us just how bad the good old days really were. However while it is smart the characters are hard to sympathize with. Gone is the bumbling yet goodhearted family dynamic of shows like "Bob's Burgers" and in its place are angry characters whose actions more often than not cross the line from comic nastiness into actual abusive behavior. However these things all play into the show's mission of showing things how they are. It excels at taking the tropes of shows like "Family Guy", stripping them down and presenting a real world equivalent. Real issues drive the show forward and keep it grounded in reality. In the end "F is for Family" is a realistic, bleak, and darkly comic show masquerading as just another animated comedy.

What can I say, except awesome.
19 April 2010
I just returned form viewing HTTYD on the big screen, in 3-D, and I must say that I was very impressed. Very, very impressed. Loosely based on a series of books by the same name HTTYD comes at you form the beginning and never lets up. Never a dull moment, never a wasted shot or scene the story progresses quickly but not so quick that you get lost. HTTYD harks at the magnificent novel, Eragon which was butchered into a film with the same name. Even if your not a huge dragon/fantasy fan you will be drawn into a story of a boy who fails at everything that is expected of him and knows it, a dragon who acts more like a giant cat, an over ambitious girl, and village full of steel-wielding vikings. The film is also hilarious and filled with one liners that have me laughing even now. The story is simple: a village of stubborn vikings battle dragons to survive until a misfit boy learns secret that could change everything. There are also heart felt moments, hilarious moments and the classic "OH NO!" and "OH YEA!" moments that are the back bone of any classic movie. This movie is, in some ways like the Incredibles but also in a class of its own. There are some moments that might scare younger viewers, a far amount of violence and some sexual references. I saw it with my family all seven of us, an age range form 45 to 6 and every one loved the movie.

So, go see it on the big screen! Don't wait for DVD and BR release GO NOW you won't regret it! If you can, pay the extra cash and see it in 3-D it worth it! This is the best movie of 2010 so far. GO NOW!

Secrets of the Mountain (2010 TV Movie)
Pelsently surprised.
18 April 2010
I was told that I was going to have to waste a Friday evening so as to join "The Clan" for a "Family movie night" with a film that was sure to be perpetually dull, boring, and childish because, well it was going to be "ok" for my six year old brother.

Thats what I thought.

I was surprised to find that I was actually watching a movie that contained good camera work, a decent story line and a soundtrack borrowed form Natinal Treasure and The Bourne Triligy. It's the predictable story of the single mom who has family trouble's, and goes on a trip and while gone has family bonding time. If I have made it sound unbearable I must have forgotten to mention the part about buried treasure. If you are an hardened movie watch lots of this film will seem borrowed form greater film such as Indiana Jones and national treasure. These were three point through out the movie that I said out loud "oh no please no" for the simple fact of an over used something or all to predictable solution.

overall this was an enjoyable movie which i recommend to anyone looking for quality family entertainment and adventure.

4 out of 5 stars for family entertainment.

Alien 3 (1992)
7/10
just get over it
19 February 2010
I know, and every one how has ever watched Alien3 knows it's flaws and is saying as they read this "how can you say anything in the defense of this movie?" I know your gripes the story the "special" effects and the overly lame deaths. But please remember this is not Alien or Aliens this is Alien3, it is the same thing with Mad Max 3 if you go into it with the mindset of the first 2 films you will hate the third film (of either trilogy). Also for the record I found my self not caring what happened to any of characters the except: Ripley, Dillion and 85, mostly because there was almost no development for any one else. So please just enjoy it for what it is "special" effects and all.
