Falling Down (1993)
Can anyone tell me what's wrong with this picture!?
Greetings friends!
One reviewer stared this is insanely underaterd!right about that!
I'm sitting in my car and thinking the world is not right and not fair. But I've just realised I've lost everything and I don't have to take it anymore; I don't need to take life anymore so I'll just rampage the world and see what happens.
This one is a mirror to society back then, frustration, helplessness that we all feel from time to time but when we can't take it anymore.... This is that movie!
Michael Douglas is the kind a guy who plays average well and that's what makes this movie... You just don't expect it! You know how character is so messed up but you wanna root for him one minute and question his sanity the next. The storyline may seem a bit far-fetched to some, but it's a spot-on representation of a man at the end of his rope, trying to make sense of a world that seems to have gone mad. If you want thought provoking cinema, which seems lacking these days! Falling down was always one of my favs!
The Terminal List (2022)
SEALiciously thrilling binge watch!
Greetings, friends! The Terminal List is a gripping and action-packed journey that takes a couple of episodes to truly sink its hooks into you; I suspect some negative reviews are based on the first couple of episodes but it does build momentum, exploring themes of revenge, conspiracy, and unyielding pursuit of justice. It's the kind of series that keeps you on the edge of your arm chair or wherever you're sitting!
Pratt nails it with a perfect balance of intensity and vulnerability, bringing an authentic touch to his character and effortlessly capturing the rollercoaster of emotions in a man on a mission for payback!
The series definitely strikes a good balance of thriller action and compelling storytelling. It's also refreshing to see a series that focuses on providing an engrossing experience, without getting bogged down by excessive political correctness. More of this please and less of the latter! Loved it.
Tenet (2020)
Painful to watch
I went to see this at the cinema and like most I was completely confused about what was happening.
The story is not that revealing and lots of unobvious sub plotting make it difficult to engage with. What's worse is the sound decisions; low vocal sound, high volume backing soundtrack. This seems to be deliberate but why would you mess with the sound in a movie. It's completely distracting
So I watched it at home and have since read about the main plot which is a pretty original idea. I then wanted to like the movie.
However, the most distracting issue that permeates the movie and prevents me from liking it is John Washington. He has a severe lack of presence, is dry dull and boring. He is a terrible actor, extremely incongruous with the scenes.
His acting is in the same league of the likes of East enders, not a high level movie like Tenet, directed by one the lead directors of the 21st century. What a fail in casting. The decision to cast Washington alongside a much more talented side such as Robert Pattinson is obsurd. Major fail in what could be an insightful movie.
Painful to watch and boring to see so much lead acting with such limited range!
Limitless (2011)
Great
Has its short falls but its an extremely entertaining movie to watch al the way through.
Character development is short; Brads narrative is quick (possible meant) and its not massively depth full. However it's still very enjoyable.
So, I'm now forced by the nature of Imbd which I love and is part of my life.. To extend my review over a certain amount of words!
OK.... Bradley Cooper has internal narration thssys a bit fake sounding and quick... Put me off a little. This is perhaps his characters thinking mind... Which is why he is so intelligent when "high". Truly enjoying the movie... Not sure about the "limited" amount of words I have to write to review.
Renegades (2022)
The point was?
Greetings, friends,
Some soldier is murdered by a gang, and, an old school SAS force seeks revenge. Not very original but that's not the main issues with this "movie".
You'd think the director was asleep through most of the movie. The production team were greenfield, and most of all, there are recognised actors involved that, in my opinion, were swindled by someone trying to make this movie initialise. It reminds me of the Faye festival that con Billy Mcfaralnd promoted. In an analogy, they have a lot in common... Nothing really exciting happens; no one turns up to the show in terms of acting; it's not winning many awards.
Indeed this is a crap show of a movie. Someone really sold someone a dream which was a nightmare!
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
Cosplay and Confusion
Batman's costume looks more like cosplay. Superman is more confused as superman than Clark Kent, Lois Lane appears from nowhere on occasion in the most obscure places, perhaps she's super girl in disguise. General Zod's innit for a minute cameo is one of those "who what where when, what just happened". Lax luther's mum called and begged him out of being in the movie because she knew this irritating teenage ADHD version of Luther would kill the show (ironically that's already D. E. A. D). Actors galore but no inexhaustible dosh can create a super movie when the script, acting and direction is opposed to having substance like start middle end. I honestly thought iron giant was going to jump in at some point, and why not?!
My verdict... Who cares.
The Breakfast Club (1985)
What a delight
When I first watched BC I was about 9 years old and was engrossed. Then, I watched it when I was a teen and liked it, but, thought it was cheesy, especially in one scene with stoned Emilio. Then, I watched in my 20s and saw it, again, in another perspective, retrospective, no cheese, just raw 80s, coming of age, engrossing, calm, funny, extremely well directed and scripted.
That's the magic of this movie, it hits a different sweet spot as you age, it ages with you and its so delightful to watch. I can't tell you how much I love the end scene with that particular song and the romance.
Being Scottish and listening to 80s legends Simple Minds , makes my heart drop to an emotional beat!
There are plenty of coming of age movies out there and lots of fantastic ones (maybe) but in my opinion none have the depth and insular captivating resonance as BC has. I don't know, perhaps it transcends the ubiquitous 'coming of age' cliche.
My shillings worth!
A Good Woman Is Hard to Find (2019)
Keep ME in suspense
Sometimes it's the 'local' movies that are nice to watch on a Friday night!
It's quite down to earth which is the reason why I think it's suspenseful, more drama, less action, quite real...hits that sweet spot.
Definitely worth a swatch!
The Revenant (2015)
Calm
Welcome to nongod
The direction and production lead the movie. The sound production compliemts this awe imspiring movie.
This was probably the last movie before netflix sell puts so enjoy.
Centigrade (2020)
IKEA would be a scarier movie
What do you get if you put a man - who seems to have a serious brain defect and a snow phobia, along with a pregnant priveliged daddy's girl who was so annoying in school, she got expelled because the teachers thought she was irritating enough, to go on strike - into a car in the middle of Swedish snow Country? Centigrade!
Getting lost in IKEA and not finding the way out for hours would be a more plausible thriller!
A Quiet Place Part II (2020)
What was the point
I would have expected a sequel to answer some of the questions that I asked of the first movie. Why were the aliens here? What was the purpose of there visit? There is nothing that adds any value over the first movie; which was great and original. The sequel is a regurgitation that is empty and void of all thought. It presents the same problem as a lot of recent movies - good casting but unintelligent and boring story development, good cinematography that makes it seem like it's a high production movie but really all this is, is another 'N*tf**x' escapism peice of cheap garbage that answers no questions reveals nothing and bores the hell out of me. The only reason I can see why this has 7.5 imbd rating at time of writing is that there is very few movies of quality these days. Thanks Covid! (and N*tf**x)
Midsommar (2019)
Delectable cinematography with compounded situations
Transcend reality into a dreamish nightmare, beautiful and enjoyable backdrop that fillls the senses. Sundry, heritical plots. The main plot, a dilemma between a couple on different ripples. Their contrasting path leads them to psychological annihilation. Intense story line progresses into paranoia, within what seems like a man made paradise. It's a scary tale of community and control and praying on the weak.
PS. Many reviews disregard this work of art as a bad horror or compare it to other, similar movies. I say it's an intense story about loss and misconceptions about who you trust.... A scary drama!
The Mauritanian (2021)
Another terrible non cinematic movie
Documentaries are for TV. The day we attempt to make realistic movies for the sake of "reality" is the day we make movies because we can't make movies any more. This is a good example. Terrible dialog, acting, story... Ohh why oh why!
Two and a Half Men (2003)
Tragic for two reasons
Tragic reason 1. This was at the zenith of comedy; smart writing, great characters and absolutely hilarious. So why is it tragic? Because Sheen left and we can now only watch repeats.
Tragic reason 2. How can I possibly vote and give it 10 stars as I 100% iron-clad believe it deserves when they lump the series with Ashton Kutcher into the same IMDb title. Surly it's an insult to the original Two and a Half men by including the Ashton Kutcher crap which is a completely different comedy of the same name. Talk about ruining a legacy!
At the time of writing the ratings stand at 7.2. This would have been so much higher if were not for adding the last series with Ashton Kutcher. It's a travesty and has brought down the ratings on this, once, wonderful comedy that had me laughing out loud throughout the whole episode.
22 Jump Street (2014)
A regurgitation of tripe from the 90s
I've always seen IMDb as the holy grail of reviews; with the exception of the Horror genre, the rating of a movie is usually spot-on. At the time of writing, 22 Jump Street has 7.3 and I don't understand how.
21 Jump Street was bearable and had its moments. However, 22 shows no real refinement of the first; in fact all I considered when watching it was the half-baked movies before pioneering comedy originals such as 40 year old virgin and Superbad.
The humour was bromidic, overused and almost as silly as some of the dreadful spoofs nowadays. Like most sequels, it seems the script writers have jumped on the success of the first movie; the same gags, plot and situational embarrassment, which begs the question, why make another!?
As a side note, Jonah Hill is a rising star with amazing potential, acting in supporting roles such as Wolf of Wall Street which he rightly deserved an Oscar nomination. I get it that comedies are his thing. However, this is not just an all-time-low for Hill in regards to comedies, but an insult to his talent for more auspicious roles.
