Bloody Hell (2020)
Entertaining
Predictable at start. The bank robbery scene leaves some questions open, which makes it more interesting. Wel acting from main character. The bipolar or schizo conversations with himself carry the movie. Makes it more funny too. Too bad about the plot. But plenty bloody violence, not too much hell.
Man on Fire (2004)
A late bloomer..
It's showing again on Netflix and the 'trending' got my attention. Then a blurb on Facebook also commented on this movie being a gem, in it's own way. Well, I watched it and remember watching the beginning a long time ago. The style of directing put me off somehow. A bit shaky at times and visuals are off. But it did not get outdated when I saw it again in full.
This movie is truly underrated. Yes, it's violent but it's got a lot of (Latin) Soul and a good feel about it. With some awesome action scenes and a satisfying plot. Good movie. Great acting by Denzel.. and the girl.
The Sound of Philadelphia (2020)
Maybe one to watch again?
At some times the movie is indeed a bit slow. Great actors, lots of potential, but no real suspense, drama and very little action.
Still.. the movie catches you of start realizing it's really about Peter's ( Mathias S.) trauma he is still digesting after all these years, and his struggles to move on.
It's shot quite beautiful, sober, like a film noir and has a soundtrack that plays to the movie; never too much but on tune.
Overall a decent movie, with good acting and a story line that is different than expected, but still kind of delivers.
So best to watch and judge for yourself
10,000 Saints (2015)
Enjoyable little gem
Stumbled on this movie through Netflix, which, to be honest, does usually not offer a lot of movies for me I have not heard of or seen before. This is one was new to me. It has some great actors including Ethan Hawk and Emile Hirsch. The story line develops as a teenager, who struggles growing up with his dad, is a bit of a misfit and when thing turn bad moves to NYC. The film is set in the eighties and also focuses on the hardcore scene at the time, which is woven well into the story. It's not a big movie but well made with small details that will be familiar to those who know the scene at that time. It sort of grows on you and definitely worth the watch. For sure then most reviews for sure, which was a surprise for me too.
Voces (2020)
Predictable yet suspenseful and effective
The storyline is one we heard and seem before. A haunted house, voices can be heard and a child that is overly sensitive to this. However the movie, the actors and the screenplay do deliver. The story build up quite intensely, keeps you on the edge and has some effective scares. OK not overly original but rewarding if you keep watching (to the very) end.
