This Is It (2009)
Worth the watch.
Thanks Michael for leaving all of us fans such a wonderful gift.
I went and saw this with a friend in theaters and it was worth it. Being able to get a glimpse into what had to be done before a show goes live was a real treat.
It was a true treasure and he'll be forever missed.
He was a true class act, and from I could tell, he treated those around him with respect and dignity and they did the same back to him.
I definitely recommend this film to anyone who has ever been and still is a fan of him. It's a nice tribute to a man who was real triple threat and who inspired so many people to get into the field (singing, performing, etc.) themselves.
The X Files: I Want to Believe (2008)
Worth the watch, Mulder and Scully are back.
Three years ago, when I saw this movie originally, I liked it. Even now, I watch it now and then and still think it was worth the watch. It's not perfect plot wise and it could have been more suspenseful at some points, but it's certainly not the bad film that a lot of people think it is.
I don't regret going to see it in theaters and getting it on DVD. The film reminded me of why I became an X-Files fan in the first place and why I still am one.
Both David and Gillian did a VERY good job acting in it. I saw them as the characters themselves (Mulder and Scully) -- and it took me back to a time when television was still good.
In the end, in spite of the films flaws... it's a film that makes you think... there are quite a few themes in it, that certainly made me think and for that I am grateful to have seen this movie.
And for those planning on seeing this movie, go and watch it with an open mind. Make sure to read Roger Ebert's review on it, since he (for the most part) has the themes of it down pat. Don't go in there expecting a traditional X-File, because you are NOT going to be getting one -- this one is more of a character study. Not that that is bad, it just reintroduces people to the characters... so in the future we can move onto more traditional fare, and just have some fun watching it.
Stargate: Continuum (2008)
A big improvement over The Arc of Truth
I didn't go into watching this with any real expectations, like I did previously with The Arc of Truth. So once that was out of the way, I really liked this movie.
The acting was a big step up, more like what the series was like. The jokes and lines that the main actors and the other actors delivered didn't fall flat. I was glad to see that, since I was so disappointed with that in the previous movie. It was a decent return to form.
The cinematography was well shot and the soundtrack was pretty well done. Both of these things added to the overall feel of the movie.
As for the plot, it was rather simple... but it was still good enough and kept me interested in watching the movie.
I recommend this film over The Arc of Truth. It's worth the watch.
Stargate: The Ark of Truth (2008)
Not worth the watch.
I took the time to watch The Arc of Truth a while back and couldn't watch more than a little less than a half an hour of it. The acting was practically non existent.
As for the plot line, it seemed interesting enough and I was beginning to get drawn into it... but once I saw the main actors interacting for the first time, I pretty much gave up on the film itself.
The secondary actors did a better job than the primary ones did. Both the lines and any jokes that the main characters said fell flat. I don't know why they (the main actors) didn't even bother to show up, so to speak, acting wise, in this entry. It's a real shame, because I was really looking forward to watching this originally.
Overall this movie isn't worth the watch, in my opinion.
Continuum is the better movie out of the two overall.
