Definitely not "Scary Movie"
28 August 2009
Warning: Spoilers
When I first saw previews for this film on TV, I got excited because I am such a fan of the Wayans films such as "White Chicks" and the first two "Scary Movies." While this film definitely had it's share of funny jokes, there was nothing original to it. A lot of the quotes from the original movies that it was spoofing were kept the same or extremely similar, without much humor really added. The young male lead did a good job, I will have to say though. I didn't recognize him as someone I had seen in movies before, but then I realized that he was one of the Wayans men as well. This movie was definitely better than the disastrous "Superhero Movie" and all of the other recent spoof films but didn't live up to the potential that it really could have had. I don't know if the Wayans brothers are losing their touch, or just wanted to give the next generation a place to try out his talent, but if I were you, I wouldn't pay more than the couple of dollars it takes to rent it. Definitely one to rent before you buy.

Decent horror, quite chilling
2 August 2009
Warning: Spoilers
The movie as a whole was quite good, but a bit overdone. I felt like the most interesting character was Paige, but she of course was the first one to die. It didn't even feel like this movie was really a remake of the 1972 version because: a. the plot line was completely changed (there was no dead brother in the original, Justin (or Junior) was not as good of a person in the original, and a lot more obvious one that you will have to watch to find out. b. The revenge the parents take on Krug and his gang is completely different than in the original. I have to say that I was disappointed that the mother didn't castrate the guy in this one. I kept waiting for it to happen, since she was pretending to come on to him. c. The parents weren't snobby enough! In the original, the parents looked down on Paige's character because she was poor, but in this one they had no problem with her.

All in all, I would tell any horror fan to at least rent this one. I gave it a 6 just because it frustrated and scared me at the same time. There is a lot of controversy over the microwave scene, but I felt that part was quite good. I loved the hand in the garbage disposal as well. Classic!

The rape scene, for me, seemed out of place and unnecessary. Krug had Sadie, so the only reason I can see for him to rape Mari would be because it was a power thing. He wanted her to know that he held the power throughout the situation. The film would have been a lot better without this scene, but then I probably would have complained more about how different it was from the original. At least it wasn't as graphic as the original film.

Two many twists for me
29 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I went into this movie very excited to see it because of the lead actors. They were great together in "Closer", but unfortunately this wasn't nearly the movie that that was. I enjoyed the dialogue and acting in this film, but the thing that ruined it for me was the various "twists" that kept on coming. It started out that the audience just sees the two sleeping together, and you think it may just be another romantic comedy, but you are wrong again. This is an action/romantic/comedy mixed film. I did throughougly enjoy the part where the two leads get played by Julia Roberts' boss. The looks on their faces made the movie a little bit better. There were definite ups and downs throughout the film, thus my average rating of 5. It could have been a lot better and it could have been a lot worse. This isn't one that I would watch again, but it definitely wasn't a waste of two hours.

More of a remake then an original
29 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't go into this movie with high expectations, but I figured it was worth a shot to watch it. The part that really put the icing on the cake for me was when Ali Larter's character was sitting in the little boy's bedroom holding him. I went into this thinking it was probably going to be a lot like the movie "Fatal Attraction", which it was, but that scene alone just really made me mad. It reminded me of the film "The Hand that Rocks the Cradle" at the same time. I don't know why they bothered to make this movie, unless it was to get male's to come and see it for the lead actresses. There was hardly any of the promised suspense, and the ending was extremely predictable. The whole thing was predictable, actually. The film starts out relatively decent, but then just gets worse and worse. If I were you, I wouldn't bother watching it, but that's just a warning. Finally, the plot made no sense because the lead never even lead the stalker on, so there was never a real reason for the whole movie to even happen. Plus, his wife wasn't much better. It seemed to me like Beyonce's character wasn't any better then Ali Larter's. She was jealous of every woman that he was around, when she had no reason to be.

Pretty good for a "chick flick"
19 June 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Even though I, myself am of the female sex, I am not one to enjoy chick flicks very often. I am usually more entertained by the horror and comedy genre. So when my friends told me they wanted to rent this one for movie night, I was pretty bummed out. It actually shocked me because I was entertained throughout the whole thing. The acting was good and the characters were actually pretty believable. The main thing that bothered me about this film was the lack of chemistry between some of the characters in their relationships. Jennifer Aniston and Ben Affleck had absolutely zero chemistry. The couple that was really genuine to me was that of Alex and Gigi.

This whole film centers around relationships and I think that it could help show a few of us exactly what has gone wrong in past relationships. There is a little bit of everything in this movie, from cheating spouses, being the infamous other woman, someone not calling you back, and a long relationship without marriage. Almost every woman could relate to at least one of the problems mentioned in this film, which makes it more believable overall. Even though I wouldn't watch this over a good horror movie, it is one that I may watch again in the future.

Way less than I expected
15 June 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I went into this movie with high hopes. I have always been a big fan of the whole Friday the 13th series, but after watching this, I was left feeling very disappointed. It seemed like three quarters of the movie was either sex or Jason having mommy issues. We didn't get into the characters whatsoever (not like we would have wanted to with how annoying all of them were.) I am a big Jared Paledecki fan from watching Supernatural, but even he let me down on this one.The thing that bothered me the most about this whole movie was how smart they made Jason. The Jason from the original movies was all about being huge and scary, but he wasn't known for being smart. This movie had him setting traps and doing all kinds of things that Jason normally wouldn't do. People in the previous films were able to at least run away from him or hide for a while, but somehow the Jason in this film was always on top of where everyone was at all times. It just bugged me altogether. The horror genre is my all time favorite, but horror movies these days just aren't impressing me, and this is just another one of those.
