Hounddog (2007)
Hounddog is a film that at the end makes the audience goes: "What the heck???"
The storyline is just tiresome, boring and confusing. It is only 102 minutes long but it feels like forever. In the end, it is still not clear what message the film is trying to deliver. The only thing that shines brightly in this film, and probably the only reason to watch till the end of it, is Dakota Fanning. The emotional performance that Dakota brings to this film is spectacular and she is definitely one of the most talented child actress in the film industry at the time.
Nowhere Boy (2009)
Great film for Beatles fan
Nowhere Boy tells the touching story of the dramatic life of young John Lennon. In my opinion, Aaron Johnson wasn't the best choice to portray Mr. Lennon, but his performance is the movie is quite good. The film focus on the trouble of Mr. Lennon with his mother and aunt, and the beginning of The Beatles. If you're a fan of the Beatles, and John Lennon, you'll definitely like this movie.
Man on Fire (2004)
An average drama/action movie but great chemistry between characters
The action sequences, explosions, chases are alright, but the angles and camera shots can be a bit annoying, to a few audiences. The thing that makes Man on Fire worth seeing is the undeniable chemistry between Washington's Creasy and Fanning's Pita. The natural performance from Fanning keeps this dark film shining, and when Pita is kidnapped, we can feel Washington transform his character into a much darker, angry, full of vengeance man who will do anything to get the child back.
A Christmas Carol (2009)
A great Christmas film, but maybe not for kids
A Christmas Carol is not simply a children's film, in fact, I doubt that most children will understand this film. The film focus on the story of past, present and future and it is told brilliantly through the wonderful animation works and performance from the cast. The film is scary at times, and I'm not sure if it's suitable for little kids, but it is a genius Christmas film and is definitely worth seeing.
Prometheus (2012)
A great sci-fi film
Prometheus is not a perfect film. If say, you want a movie that puts a smile on your face and leaves you satisfied when leaving the cinema - this film will not give you that. In fact, what it will do, is giving you lots, and LOTS of questions during the film and even more confusing questions at the end. But I, as a fan of sci-fi films, loved it. It serves as an indirect prequel to the Alien franchise - The visuals, suspense and mysteries are well-created, and it leaves the audience wanting more, and, undoubtedly, a sequel.
Rock of Ages (2012)
Cheeeeeeesy but good music
Aside from the music, the plot is silly as glam music can be; the characters are too shallow, as the film just brings in new characters without providing why they should be in and what the heck they are doing there. There are some cheesy love songs but also some good rocking songs too, and Tom Cruise did a good job both singing and performing them.
Uptown Girls (2003)
Meh flick for teens
Sure, this film could please the teen audience, but to take it seriously, it's not that great. Watching from the start to half the film is quite torturing. It started to make more sense and deliver some meaningful messages at the other half of the film - but overall: this is a flick for teens, what can we expect?
Paranormal Activity (2007)
OK but not that good
This horror movie is quite different, but not that great. It creates a mystery that feels almost realistic, but it doesn't solve it. What the audience won't like about this movie is that, it's not that scary - or not always scary, at least. The audience will just pay attention to what happens to the couple at midnight - other times, it's not that interesting.
The Runaways (2010)
Recommended for fans of rock music.
I have just watched The Runaways for the second time, and, as a fan of rock music, this is one of my favorite biographical film about a music artist or band. The film explains the rise and fall of the musical phenomenon The Runaways back in the 70s, and focus on the tension and drama of its performers, Cherie Currie and Joan Jett. The film does a very good job in retelling the story and the soundtrack is superb, especially the tracks that were re-performed by Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart. The film doesn't go any more further than that, and it feels a little short and unsatisfying somehow, even with a subtle ending. However with the powerful performance of Michael Shannon, Dakota Fanning, and Kristen Stewart - this film is a must-see for all fans of rock music alike.
