Jackass: The Movie (2002)
People With a Shared Sense of Humor Will Laugh Harder Than Ever Before. But That's It.
I'm giving it an 8, not because it's a good movie, but because it is one of the most entertaining films I've ever seen in my entire life.
Before watching this movie, you've got to ask yourself : Do you enjoy crude, unintelligent, slapstick humor? For example, do you think a man getting run over by a buffalo herd is funny? Does idiots doing crazy **** and getting themselves half killed in the process amuse you? I understand that a lot of people will find this incredibly stupid and unfunny. Those people have no reason to watch this film.
Although, the majority will find the sheer craziness of this film hilarious. Yes, I enjoy well thought out, intelligent humor but let's face it, sometimes we all just want to laugh at something completely ridiculous. And that's what Jackass is. Whether you're watching a an midget bar fight or a guy being assaulted by a goat whilst playing a trumpet, this film will keep you laughing throughout the entire 84 minutes.
To what I say to you critics : Lay off. This wasn't supposed to a movie with great plot, outstanding acting(No acting is involved, it's all real) with great special effects and suspense. No, this film was supposed to be completely insane and ridiculous. And that it is. And it appeals to the majority of the public who enjoy this humor.
In conclusion. This movie lacks plot, effects and is completely insane. And that's what will appeal to majority. Some of you will hate this film but a lot of you will laugh your ass off. Jackass : You've got to love it or hate it!
The Stepfather (2009)
Full of Clichés and Horribly Written
First of all I'm sure that the plot has already been used a thousand times. Not to mention the whole film is full of clichés. Example : Police Sketch Artist, America's Most Wanted etc. I don't mind clichés, if they are used well. And they are certainly not used well at all in The Stepfather. There's a plot hole around every corner.
Like, David does a really bad job at covering up his insanity. The mother is really stupid and ignores many, many clues that David isn't innocent. David does a really bad job hiding evidence. The police sketch artist scene was terribly written. Why would the third victim(can't remember her name) come outside to fix an UMBRELLA when she had a plane to catch? Seriously, out of all things she could have died doing, why was it fixing an umbrella?
Not to mention they make it incredibly obvious that David was the killer from the first scene which takes all of the mystery out of it. They have mystery music where it's not needed. And the ending renders the entire film pointless.
Overall the film sucks.
Life of Brian (1979)
Hilarious Film, Which Gives off a Good Message
The Life of Brian is the second installment of the Monty Python films. And what a film it is. Probably one of the greatest comedy films in history. Life of Brian is as memorable as it is original.
And I think there's more. I've seen all of Monty Python's films however I don't know much about him or anyone involved in the films. But I think that Life of Brian gives us a message. To Always Look on the Bright Side of Life. I don't think it's just a song at the end of the movie. I think it's a message. Because all of Monty Python's films are making fun of situations. Some frightening or dangerous situations. But the point is that it makes you happy(No doubt about that). It makes light of things. Which is how everyone should live their lives.
Some religious people take it too seriously. I'm just saying to lay back and take a joke. This is coming from a raised Christian. The film isn't anti-Christian. It doesn't once mock Jesus or deny the existence of God.
I'd say that this film has inspired me to look on the bright side of life no matter what. To be happy. This is a very funny and original comedy. It's a must see film which everyone should enjoy.
Python's genius in comedy, returns for another equally great film.
The Lone Ranger (2013)
A Good Action Filled Film, But Missing the Magic that Pirates of the Caribbean Had
I saw an exclusive showing of this film today. And after reading some of the reviews, I wasn't expecting much.
I'm a huge fan of Pirates of the Caribbean. And what made the film memorable was Johnny Depp. Johnny Depp makes another memorable performance in this film. Portraying an odd yet likable character. The Lone Ranger is an action filled adventure. The main cast did their bit with the stunts, and the film was well written. I honestly don't know why it was a "flop" but I assure you, a "flop" means nothing.
While the film was good, it seemed to lack something that Pirates of the Caribbean had. Maybe it was the wide range of likable characters. I'm not sure. However the Lone Ranger shouldn't cease to entertain.
Man on the Moon (1999)
Hello My Name is Andy, and This is My Review
From a comedy aspect, I misunderstood it and at times found the movie hard to get around. But the Man on the Moon tells the odd yet interesting tale of Andy Kauffman, perfectly. Andy Kauffman was an eccentric funny man who died before being understood. Often called a comedian but described himself as a song and dance guy.
This is probably the one of the most accurate biography movies ever told. With every actor doing they're bit. If you watch actual footage of Andy Kauffman which was in the movie, you will see just how alike it is to the film. Jim Carrey was the best possible actor for this role. And this film really shows the talent that Jim Carrey has, the ability to be absolutely hilarious then flick to emotional and serious.
It depicts Andy's life perfectly. And what a life he had. Andy was the kind of guy who took a joke to its furthest extent. He was unpredictable, original, eccentric and good hearted. I actually genuinely think that he was the founder of Modern Wrestling.
Man on the Moon is a marvelous, accurate portrayal of the unusual man, Andy Kauffman.
The Cable Guy (1996)
Misunderstood. Carrey's Best
I'd like to start off by saying that The Cable Guy is disliked by a lot of people. This would explain it's low rating. But don't be thrown off by that.
The Cable Guy is a black comedy. So, some people will be unsettled by the plot of the movie. "Chip" is a disturbed Cable Guy, raised on television, who only wants a friend. Steve is a designer, recently kicked out of his girlfriend's apartment. Moving into his new apartment, his friend Rick tells him to bribe the cable guy, to get illegal cable. But the cable guy, "Chip" sees this is an invitation to be best buds. Steve, trying to be nice fakes an interest in his work, but this just brings "Chip" closer and closer to him.
This movie is a misunderstood classic. And in my opinion it's Jim Carrey's best movie. It's a nice change for Carrey's character, having him play the psychotic two faced Cable Guy. With Steve(Matthew Brodrick) in the most awkward of situations by the hilarious Cable Guy(Jim Carrey) this movie should bring you laughs and enjoyment. It does get progressively dark as the film goes on but it's nothing major. The film also has many, many film and T.V. references that you'll enjoy along the way.
In my opinion, The Cable Guy is the motion picture version of mar-mite. You will ever love it or hate it. And I love it. A must watch!
An Idiot Abroad (2010)
Absolutely Brilliant
Put together by the two comedic genius' that brought you "The Office" and "Extras". You'd think that this show would be a genius, subtle and well put together comedy featuring Stephen Merchant and Ricky Gervais.
But no, this show is all about one lovable idiot. Named Karl Pilkington. Karl Pilkington is the average Brit who will make you love this show after one episode. The comedy is stupidly funny that everyone will understand. Karl is a reluctant traveler practically forced into these situations by two friends. Watch, as the ultimate pessimist is put in the worst of conditions and gives his opinions idiotic but hilarious opinions on his travels and his own life.
If you have a strong dislike of Ricky Gervais or Stephen Merchant(A lot of people seem to). Don't worry they're not in it much.
The best thing about the show is that it's all real! Karl is no actor. He is genuine simpleton living out his life in London. However, Ricky and Steve have hidden some surprises along the way that Karl describes as "the lowest points of me life"
The Hangover (2009)
Overrated.
I saw this movie a year after its release. During that year, The Hangover was being talked about by everyone. Everyone was saying how good and funny it was.
After seeing it, I must say that I was disappointed. I laughed a couple of times. But only because I was in a good mood and some jokes were smart. But these were forced laughs. The movie was well written with a good cast and story line. But it wasn't that funny. I didn't laugh on impulse once. For me, a good comedy is one that really makes you laugh, and you get really connected with the characters. Cause that's what comedies are supposed to do right? Make you laugh.
The Hangover just didn't do that for me. I'm giving it an 8. For a couple of reasons. 1. It was well written. 2. Good story. 3. Good cast. 4. Many people seemed to enjoy it.
Maybe if I saw it when it came out, I would have enjoyed it more, but I don't think so. Personally I didn't like it because it didn't make me laugh once. But humor is subjective, so I'm not being too hard on it.
The 41-Year-Old Virgin Who Knocked Up Sarah Marshall and Felt Superbad About It (2010)
Worst. Movie. Ever.
This movie was absolutely terrible. For starters who spoofs a comedy?
Spoof movies generally make fun of serious movies, generally horrors.
But no they had to spoof a comedy. Superbad is my favorite movie, the fact that these are even slightly related to each other is a huge embarrassment. I haven't seen the others they spoofed but I guarantee they are one hundred times better than this piece of trash. All it is, is crude, ridiculous and unintelligent jokes.
Trying to make fun of a great comedy and ending up with the worst movie ever made is pretty embarrassing. Not much else to say except. Don't watch it!
The Simpsons (1989)
Originally, Best T.V. Show Ever, But Now Slipping
The Simpsons was once a brilliant animated comedy about a dysfunctional family living in a dysfunctional town. In fact it could one of the best television shows of all time.
However the Simpsons has been going down hill for quite a while now. I'm not sure when, but a while ago it started using the same story lines and becoming unfunny. Even if a storyline is original, it's pretty boring. Most of the new episodes are very boring. There is a cause. It has gone on too long. Now at season 24 and episode 528, it's safe to say they've ran out of ideas.
My advice to Matt Groening is stop at 25. Make a real effort to make an epic series finale and let that be that. Maybe make another movie. The first movie was pretty good compared to the modern episodes. Matt, stop Simpsons and focus on Futurama. It hasn't been running long and still has great potential.
Futurama (1999)
Original, and Very Good
Futurama is an animated comedy series about a lowlife pizza deliver boy(Phiip J Fry) who accidentally gets frozen in cryogenic storage and awakes in the year 3000. There he befriends a robot named Bender, a one eyed woman named Leela and his only surviving relative. Professor Hubert Farnsworth, a scientist who owns a deliver company named the Planet Express. The Professor then hires his uncle Fry and his friends to be part of his new crew.
I think Futurama is a misunderstood and underrated comedy. It has been hiding in the shadow of Matt Groening's other work, The Simpsons for too long. Futurama is very funny and in its prime with 8 seasons. It continues to show originality and humor in several fashions with many characters.
Original and very funny comedy.
Superbad (2007)
Best Comedy Ever!!!
I absolutely loved this movie. I have seen it at least 6 times, and I enjoy it just as much each time. While it's not extremely well written, it will have you smirking for weeks. Or in my case forever! I can't speak for everyone but I laughed so hard during this movie. It introduced me to some brilliant actors as well. I got really connected with the characters and the story. I just didn't want it to end. I've watched it with my friends as well and they loved. It's without a doubt my favorite movie. As I said it's not the most well written comedy. But it does what a comedy is supposed to do better than any other movie. Make you laugh!
