Black Swan (2010)
Nobody's perfect
Nina is beset by anxiety to be perfect but to live his life . But you can not control everything must to achieve perfection . His pulse , which should keep an eye on you make sure your skin starts to tear , to cut , to bleed .
Natalie Portman makes us live this fight almost perfect way , the splitting and the mother / daughter relationship . The final jump of red blood stain the white costume of Nina envelops the viewer , red and white come into conflict again . The images and sequences tell the slow transformation with an increase in tension, the use of light and reflections , duplication of images , even the injuries inflicted on the body are recognized by Nina only through the mirrors , as if it were another person .
The Divide (2011)
No way out
It was a nuclear attack , the kind that leave no prisoners . All the inhabitants of a building trying to find shelter . Only 8 able to take refuge in the underground bunker of the same building , "inhabited " by the caretaker. The film is shot very well , it exploits the great great location , the actors have worked very well and the climax and rhythm are really well calibrated . The main theme , is the isolation that leads to madness , the emergence of victims characters , executioners , cruelty and liabilities but in The Divide the Apocalypse is just an excuse , merely a contingent situation that lives the group . Impazisce someone , someone takes the lead , forming little groups . The small group who commands is what will also manage the food rations . And that's what most cynical and violent .
Excision (2008)
A very strange dream...
The film is placed in the context of the teenager disturbed but also seeks to emphasize the difference with which it is understand physical illness and the psychic from society and parents. The story tells the young Pauline, eighteen, oppressed by an intrusive, authoritarian mother, a father spineless (as always in this type of households) and a sick sister of cystic fibrosis.
Crazy eyes and disheveled hair, Pauline test a passion for blood and surgery, makes dreams with dead bodies in a morgue, has solitary conversations with God and psychiatric sessions with a priest, his life is a continuous confrontation with the school, parents and the first sexual urges accompanied by visions of blood and skin incisions.
The mixture of sloppiness and post puberty innocence seeking in a strong rebellious impulses of teenagers "ego", all with an enviable smoothness, excursions surrealist (the glossy- blood dreams of the protagonist). A very strange dream ....
The Boy (2016)
Original... but confused
The boy ... A little of enough original ideas but too confused ! The first part of the film holds up well : The presentation of the doll , the two old obsessive fetish doll (interesting in the photograph doll shots ) ... but then falls style with mediocre horror sequences ( slow -fast room , noise ,jump- scare ... ) ... Then again it builds a nice atmosphere when Greta begins to think that the doll is alive ... but in the epilogue climax it is reduced to some killing ( with too little blood !! ) and a greeting ...
If they had deepened the psychological aspect of the two old morbid that they forced the beautiful and fragile girl to look after the doll would be a great tragedy !
Noroi (2005)
Kagubata will torment
Noroi is not a film whatever and, above all , is not a horror any . Shot with the expedient of fake documentary and rediscovered videotape , is not to be considered as one of many that the landscape of cinema recently launched . Nor not resort to any tricks , no easy fright, no shortcut to frighten . There just tells images , words , sequences that can only give some concern to the viewer . The script moves in time and space to create an amazing canvas of characters , places , events , that slowly more and more are beginning to intersect with each other . Many elements begin to return , the mask ( rethink the design of the experiment girl) , the braided ropes , everything. Until you get to the final , almost a final triple that in the definitive masterpiece of the film . Kagubata will torment ...
The VVitch: A New-England Folktale (2015)
Witches are back
There is the little house , a figure with red coat, the goat and other animals , a dark and ominous night. These qualities " fairytale " join the painstaking description of the daily life of the protagonist family, expelled from his village because his father William has sin of " haughty arrogance " , and then forced to live alone in the woods . Then comes the witch ( or not? ) And do not know whether to believe it or not , even if we see it . The first time you see it , framed in different details and an intelligent use of editing : could really be a witch , or it could simply be a woman (who is believed to be a witch ) . But also Thomasin might be a witch ... It is no coincidence , then, that focuses on her family paranoia, blurred between fear and desire . Not to be missed.
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
Beyond The Infinite
2001: A Space Odyssey deals with the elements of human evolution, technology, artificial intelligence & extra-terrestrial life. It is divided into 3 segments & an epilogue, each connected with an extra-terrestrial reference. Kubrick's first venture into the science fiction genre features all his usual trademarks but its treatment is very different from his other works. The pace is intentionally slowed down, the narration is through visuals & music, the exchange of dialogues is minimal and the engaging & confusing plot only gets better, more transparent & satisfying on multiple viewings. 2001 is a visually stunning experience to behold on the big screen. It asks a lot of its audience and caught in the right frame of mind a cinematic experience of the first order. I had read Clarke's short story The Sentinel shortly before, and I therefore had a pretty good idea of what the story was. Standing back and looking at the movie and imagining myself in the position of someone coming to it cold, it must have been a nightmare. I guess it would be possible to figure out the link between the monoliths, although possibly not until encountering the one on the moon - fabulous though the jump-cut from bone to orbiting satellite may be, I'm not sure it actually explains anything. The Jupiter mission is straightforward enough, but the final sequence is baffling to anyone not in the know.
