Bad Timing (2022)
Fun Movie With A Lot Of Heart!
I just got done watching "Bad Timing", which was directed by Gregory Hatanaka and starring (and written by) Nino Cimino and also starring Erin Whittaker, and I have to say that it was a lot of fun!
I really loved the layered complexity of Nino Cimino's character "Sammy", you feel you have him figured out at first but he shows a side later on that you weren't expecting, this made for a much more enjoyable watch as the characters were multi-dimensional (something that you don't get a lot of these days).
Great performances all around and a lot of heart and passion was put into this film, definitely a must see!
Locked Up (2017)
Fantastically Dark and Gritty Drama
I had the pleasure of attending the world premiere of this movie at the Downtown Independent in LA. I came out feeling very impressed with the movie, it was a serious gritty drama that lead you down a long dark path to a climactic resolution set against the mesmerizing location of a cold and corrupt prison in Thailand.
The direction by Jared Cohn was beautifully done, you felt that there must have been a great chemistry between director and lead (played by the very talented Kelly McCart, one to watch for), as many of the scenes must have been very challenging to perform.
This was released on the same day as the screening as a Netflix Original movie, a very well deserved placement, I'm sure it will do very well.
Scales: Mermaids Are Real (2017)
Wonderful movie, with real heart and a gripping story
This was a wonderful movie about growing up, dealing with changes in life and becoming aware of how the world really can be as we begin the journey of leaving childhood and how we are forced to rapidly mature to deal with what life throws at us when we have no choice but to survive. All of this wrapped up by the whimsical fantasy that Mermaids live among us, set against a beautiful coastal town backdrop.
I was lucky enough to attend the screening of "Scales: Mermaids Are Real" at the Newport Beach Film Festival. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, especially as this movie is targeted to a younger audience, but I came away feeling that I truly enjoyed the movie. There was never a dull moment, the writing was fantastic, the lead Emmy Perry delivered a flawless natural performance and the entire ensemble was perfectly cast for their roles and did a great job.
The cinematography was incredible, it provided some stunning imagery on the screen, some wonderful locations and a gradual shift from the warm coastal scenery to the colder, more daunting side of town and the inhabitants living there. I wholeheartedly recommend this for all the family, I really think this is a true gem of a movie.
