The Hills Have Eyes (2006)
Copletely stupid - completely funny
One of the funnies horror movies I have seen yet. Amazingly stupid and basically just a splatter flick, the reactions of the people and their acts where so predictable and wrong that I just had to laugh all the time. It had few new ideas, but a lot of blood, blood and - oh yeah - body parts. Probably the logic of the story was burnt away with the atomic explosion, but who cares - if you liked "Army of Darkness" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106308/) you'll probably like this one. Just don't take it seriously! I still give it a 3 rating, since I got the impression the movies was meant to be serious and not meant to be funny.
Mysterious Island (2005)
Worst movie I have seen in a long time
There is one thing that was really funny about this movie: Some of the effects or rather some of the sets where probably originally from the mi of the 20th century. It reminded me of monster movies from the 60ies. Overall though it was a really bad movie - especially since the reference to the badly arranged sets of 1960'es B movies was probably unintentional. This one can't be good for the reputation of Patrick Steward! I liked him a lot in other roles but even he could not save this film from dwindling in the meaninglessness of a remake of a remake of a movie made from a originally very good book. Actually - the original story seemed to have been lost during this remaking-process, since This was merely a cheap action flick with no much meaning and props that looked so much plastic that it could be debated if the company bought them actually at a toy store.
The Dark (2005)
Not great, but it has not deserved the bad ratings
I think it was an interesting movie. OK, it had some old-fashioned scares like clapping windows and loud blasts from the speakers in it, but I liked the story about the Walish Mythology. It would seem, that the movie could have been made quite a bit better though. What I really liked a lot was the fantastic Landscape and the atmosphere of the movie. The part where people where jumping off the cliff with their bags packed was spooky as was the light-effects of the world of the dead. I didn't quite get the ending, but I liked the idea that the mother was not aware of being dead. What I really disliked about the movie was its camera. Maybe it was just because I have a cold these days, but I was really getting sick from the shaky hand-held camera movements. But maybe it was the intention of the makers to let me feel seasick - fitting to the scenery ;-)
