Suffers in comparison with Jeunet’s earlier work. The retro future of Bigbug simply does not look as tactile and real as the grungy dystopia of Delicatessen or The City of Lost Children. One can do wonders with digital effects, but it takes a lot of doing to make them look like physical objects that take up space.

I think on revisiting I may warm to it a bit, but there’s certainly no hurry.

4/10 actually feels really generous.

Terrifier 2 is much much too long. This is a movie that could probably lose an hour out of its runtime and be better for it. Way too much fat.

I don’t WANT to dislike Rian Johnson. I liked Brick. I liked Looper. It’s not without issues but of the new Star Wars movies The Last Jedi is… better than most. Rogue One is the only one I would put on the same tier.

And I liked Knives Out. Decently. But I would say that Brick is easily still his best movie, and every subsequent effort has not quite been as good as I hoped that it would be.
