I’ve written elsewhere that I seem to have reviewed a whole lot of these over-sized DC Special’s of late. Not a complaint, mind you, far from it. DC could have quite easily stuck out a load of old reprints and hastily cobbled together inventory stuff and put it out and a lot of people would probably have picked it up anyway. They went the other way though, and have curated a lot of nicely done tales, by a mixture of legendary creators and more recent fan favourites. The recent Flash 80 pager I reviewed was especially good. Scanning down the creator list on this Robin book, straight away names like Marv Wolfman, Devin Grayson, Tom Grummett, Dan Jurgens, and Chuck Dixon jump out. I like the fact DC try to get creators particularly associated with the different incarnations of Robin to recreate their magic.

Milestone Media’s best-known character, Static, is back in the third volume of his animated adventures after the release of the first two seasons last year. Static Shock was somewhat revolutionary back in the day, featuring an African-American teen super-hero who juggled classes, girls, villains, and parents, not all that dissimilar to a certain wall-crawler. The comic was long gone, but he left a mark.
Virgil Hawkins (Phil Lamarr) arrived for the Static Shock the Complete Third Season sporting a brand new costume and during the season, his Bff Richie (Jason Marsden) gained powers, taking on the name Gear. Throughout the thirteen episodes comprising the series, which aired in the Kids’ WB, he left the confines of Dakota and journeyed to Africa and even partnered with Superman after fighting alongside the Justice League.
It helped that there were strong scripts from Milestone co-founder Dwayne McDuffie, backed by Paul Dini, Len Uhley,...

Transformers: Robots in Disguise place years after “Transformers Prime,” when Bumblebee is summoned to save Earth from a new faction of Decepticons and assembles a rogue team of young Autobots that includes a rebel bad boy bot, an elite guard cadet, a bombastic Dinobot and hyperactive Mini-Con to capture their new enemies. Each new bot is a fully capable action hero but inexperienced in working together in a team, forcing Bumblebee to become both squad leader and coach, Hasbro said. The show will feature voice actors such as Darren Criss, Constance Zimmer, Mitchell Whitfield and Ted McGinley. Also from the article: "[the] creative team includes kids programming vets Jeff Kline (“Transformers Prime”) as executive producer; producer Adam Beechen (“The Adventures of Chuck and Friends”); and Steven Melching, a writer on “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” who will serve as the show’s story editor. - Variety...

This new series of Batman Beyond (entitled Batman Beyond Universe) collects the first two digital releases of both Batman Beyond and Justice League Beyond into one book. This series is a grand departure for the past run with an all new creative team and a desire to tie into the animated series rather than a separate entity. This offers a fresh starting point for newbies to the comic’s Universe with this run being set one year after the end of the previous run, entitled Batman Beyond Unlimited.
This is first thing that strikes me about this comic is how extremely welcoming is it toward new fans, or those that have never read a Beyond book before. I have a familiarity with the Batman Beyond universe via the awesome TV series from the 90′s but zero experience with the past runs of the book. Before I get into this review...

When Batman Beyond premiered in 1999, I couldn't have been more excited. A show which featured my favorite super hero set in a futuristic Gotham City that resembled the world of Blade Runner was almost too much for my geek heart to process. It never disappointed me and assured fans of the Dark Knight that his legacy would never end. Twelve years after the last official episode of the series aired, the futuristic crime fighter's adventures continue in both Batman Beyond and Justice League Beyond comic titles.
Batman Beyond: 10,000 Clowns is a collection of the first sixteen print issues of the series, which were originally released in digital form. The trade paperback version is comprised of three different storylines entitled "The Trigger Man," "Legends of the Dark Knight: Jake," and "10,000 Clowns."
In "The Trigger Man," Batman comes face-to-face with a killer whose love for his dog makes him more dangerous than ever.

Luckily for us (but unfortunately for spec-script writers), graphic novels and comic books seem to be two of the primary sources of new material to bring to the big and small screens as of late. As reported by Deadline, NBC is developing a high-concept drama based on the graphic novel, Hench—originally written by Adam Beechen and Manny Bello and published by AitPlanetLar in 2004, centering on a regular guy who accepts jobs temping for super villains—that will be written by Alexandra Cunningham and produced by Peter Berg and Sarah Aubrey’s Film 44 and Universal TV.
Film 44 is the team behind the U.S. version of Prime Suspect as well as a U.S. version of the Israeli drama M.I.C.E., in development at NBC for next season.

Hench is to be adapted for television with NBC at the helm. Deadline reports that the network has added the graphic novel-inspired project to its development slate with Desperate Housewives scribe Alexandra Cunningham attached to pen the pilot. The Hench graphic novel was written by Adam Beechen and illustrated by Manny Bello and published by AitPlanetLar in 2004. It tells the story of an average Joe (more)...

NBC is once again teaming up with Friday Night Lights creator Peter Berg to develop a new high concept super villain drama called Hench.
The series is being written by Alexandra Cunningham and is based on the comic book series by Adam Beechen and Manny Bello. The story focuses on a regular guy who gets odd jobs temping for super villains so that he can support his family.
I've never read the comic, but it actually sounds like a fun concept. I can easily see that being a solid series. I imagine the villains in the series will be invented for the series, but it would be awesome to see some well-known villains make an appearance.
Do you think this will make for a good TV series?
Here's the description of the comic:
The fine line between hero and villain is just another of longtime super-villain henchman Mike Fulton's many scars.

Look out, Avengers - NBC is siding with the supervillains. The Peacock network has decided to move forward with "Hench," a drama series that will center on an average guy who "temps" for supervillains as a means of supporting his family, according to Deadline. The Peter Berg-produced project is based on the comic book of the same name by Adam Beechen and Manny Bello. Penning the comic-book adaptation is writer Alexandra Cunningham, who has a relationship with NBC going back to her work on last season's "Prime Suspect" starring Maria Bello (her other small-screen credits include "Desperate Housewives" and "Fastlane"). Danny McBride's "Hench" doesn't appear to be moving forward — no big surprise, considering we've heard approximately zilch on the project in three years. But that doesn't mean an adaptation of the AiT/Planet Lar graphic novel is necessarily out of the running. Far from it, in fact.
Deadline reports that NBC is developing a new series titled "Hench," with Peter Berg and Sarah Aubrey's Film 44 teaming up with Universal TV and writer Alexandra Cunningham for the series.
The report describes the series as centering "on a regular guy who, in order to support his family, gets jobs temping for super villains." The "Hench" comic book, meanwhile, focused on a disabled football player who became a supervillain to earn some extra cash. Sounds similar, doesn't it?
When the comic was first announced as a McBride starring vehicle, creator Adam Beechen was understandably very excited. "I'm pretty blown away,...

We hold in our hands the covers for DC Comics this March. As a child of four can plainly see, these comics have been hermetically sealed in a Cgc 9.8 slab, and they’ve been kept in a #2 mayonnaise jar under a giant pile of Christmas tinsel since noon today.
What do we have worth noting? The first fill-in artist on Justice League, although Gene Ha is certainly no slouch in that department. We also have new writers on Firestorm and Green Arrow, new backups in Justice League and Action Comics, and the DC 52 hits lucky number 7.
Shall we see who is the fariest of them all? Oh indeedy, let’s do!

What do we have worth noting? The new look of Darkseid, and we’re far enough into the new 52 books that it’s time for Batman to start crossing over in all of them. Plus Mara Jade, the red-haired assassin who fell in love with her blond-haired man she was sent to kill– oh, I’m sorry, that’s from Star Wars. This is Mera in a jade outfit. Our mistake.
Shall we? Surely!
As usual, spoilers may lurk beyond this point.

"Conan the Barbarian" may attract some audience members based solely on its bare-chested sword fights and monsters this week. For Matt Fraction, however, the key selling point seems to be Morgan Freeman's voice (or that of someone who sounds suspiciously similar to Freeman).
Joe Hill, meanwhile, dug BBC America's new spy show "The Hours." His micro-review, a hint about a change in "Batman Beyond" and a tease from Fred Van Lente about a new project he's working on piqued our interest in the feed this morning and made the retweet list.

It's been a dangerous week for singer Joss Stone and "Game of Thrones" star Sean Bean. Stone was the target of an alleged murder conspiracy, while Bean reportedly survived a street attack in London. Brian Lynch and Phil Noto commented on these topics, while Dan Slott reflected on seeing Spider-Man and Bill Clinton in the same room.
Check out how that felt, along with which creator thinks he should have been invited to a "Green Lantern" screening and why Brian Michael Bendis doesn't hate DC comics after the jump.

Oh, how far this series has fallen. When the ongoing Zatanna title first debuted, it was great. The art was stunning, the storyline intriguing and fun, and I was excited to see where Paul Dini would go with the character. But after a couple great issues, I knew that there was trouble on the horizon. Reading the latest previews, I noticed a new artist coming on to the book, and worse still — because this type of stunt is usually a good indicator of declining quality — the fantastic Stephane Roux, who had been doing the interior pages, would continue, but only be providing the cover art.
I enjoy Paul Dini’s writing, so even when I saw that the pencil work had taken a dramatic downturn, I stayed with the title. The plotlines continued to be light-hearted and fun, while also tackling some of the darker, spookier corners of the DC Universe.

Not content to wait until the New York Comic-Con starts, DC got a jump on Wednesday by announcing that the Batman Beyond comic book series, previously planned as a 6-issue mini-series will now get an ongoing series. January will see a new #1 issue, featuring the same creative team as the mini. Writer Adam Beechen and artist Ryan Benjamin will continue to bring readers the further adventures of Terry McGinnis, the Batman of the future.
The mini has seen McGinnis take on some version of the Batman villain Hush. McGinnis, with assistance from Bruce Wayne, has had to protect some of the Batman’s former villains from a bandaged foe, and while the whole mystery has yet to be revealed, it’s been a fun ride so far, and it seems that readers have reacted enough that DC thought it was a good idea to take the series full time [...]...

Blame Laurence…he’s the dumb-ass this time.
Pretty brave of “Wavves” to ditch the fuzzy, distorted sound for their third record in favor of a sound where you can actually hear the lyrics, huh? I think it’s a wise decision. While it’s disheartening to see a band “grow up” a bit and normalize, I wonder how much longer they could have done fuzzy noise without making them look like a one-trick pony. It’s interesting that they did this after imploding on stage in Europe last year. More importantly, I can’t wait to see how Pitchfork reviews the album. I predict one of their famous 0.0 reviews. Personally, I think it sounds pretty good.
Do you even know what I’m talking about?

The new plotline picks up directly after the 'Number of the Beast' arc, which has left the world in ruins. The awesomely funny Danny McBride is the shooting star in Hollywood right now. He continues to make his way into almost every major comedy that comes out. McBride first appeared in The Foot Fist Way and has been solidly working ever since. His smaller parts in Pineapple Express, Hot Rod, Tropic Thunder, & Observe and Report have rocketed his career into the hot seat with the starring role in his own HBO series Eastbound And Down, and supporting role in Land Of The Lost which opens today. Given this solid resume, it seems that he is ready to lead in the upcoming action comedy Hench. McBride will co-write Hench with Shawn Harwell based on a graphic novel by Adam Beechen and Mario Bello. In the past week, some unexpected attention has fallen on a project called “Hench.” Based on an AiT/Planet Lar graphic novel, “Hench” is a Danny McBride-starring vehicle about a disabled football player who becomes a supervillain’s henchman to make some extra cash. McBride has had some words to say on the project, but how about the comic book’s creator, Adam Beechen?
“I’m pretty blown away, as you might imagine,” Beechen told Comic Book Resources. “It’s actually been in the works for a couple of months. And I wasn’t allowed to talk about it and it was driving me crazy. Only a couple of people besides me knew about it and I just wanted to climb up to the rooftop and scream about it for the last two months.”
It’s certainly hard to argue with such high-level interest from McBride and Warner Bros.

American comedian Danny McBride is to star in a Warner Bros film adaptation of the graphic novel Hench.
The new AiT/Planet Lar graphic novel was created by Adam Beechen and Mario Bello.
Variety reports that McBride is also set to write the screenplay with Shawn Harwell, with whom he penned several episodes of his HBO comedy show Eastbound And Down.
In the poignant comedy adventure Hench, the 32-year-old actor, producer and writer will play football player Mike Fulton whose career is ended by injury. With a wife and kid to support, Mike searches for a new job to make ends meet and ends up becoming a henchman for supervillains such as the Red Baroness, Cosmonaut and Hellbent.
McBride, who was in Tropic Thunder, next stars opposite Will Ferrell in Land of the Lost, a big-screen parody of the 1974 TV series.

Last year, few people really knew who Danny McBride was. It's actually kind of sweet to search back through our archives for photos, and see our Erik Davis predicting that he'd be a household name after Tropic Thunder. One season of Eastbound and Down and several movies later, McBride is the toast of the town. Look for no further proof than this -- he's getting a comic book movie.

Already having gone eastbound and down, “Land of the Lost” funnyman Danny McBride is heading towards an all-new terrain — the comic book.
Variety has the scoop that McBride will headline “Hench” for Warner Bros., based on the graphic novel of the same name created by Adam Beechen and Mario Bello. McBride will write the screenplay alongside Shawn Harwell.
Originally released by AiT/Planet Lar, “Hench” focuses on Mike Fulton, a football player who suffers a career-ending injury and needs to find employment, so he signs on as a henchman to a successful villain.
“‘Hench’ is an exploration of the very fine line between hero and villain,” Adam Beechen, who wrote the novel, described the comic to Comic Book Resources back in 2004. “A former star college athlete, Mike’s not a bad person in the least but, spurred by a lack of legitimate opportunities, the need to provide for his family and the lure of adrenaline,...

Danny McBride's mainstream career thus far has screamed "sidekick!" Sure, he's the leading man in The Foot Fist Way and the TV series Eastbound and Down, but in his biggest movies-- Tropic Thunder, Pineapple Express and the upcoming Land of the Lost-- he's been the scenestealer, the guy in the background who, out of nowhere, becomes your favorite character. There's no question that Danny McBride's star is currently on the rise in Hollywood, and although he still has yet to headline his own studio feature film, he has had supporting roles in some of the biggest comedies of the last year or two including Pineapple Express, Tropic Thunder, and the upcoming Land of the Lost. Well it looks like Warner Brothers may have found a perfect starring vehicle for him in the form of Adam Beechen and Manny Bello's graphic novel Hench [1]. McBride is attached to star as Mike Fulton, a former football player who suffers a career-ending injury. In need of a job to support his family, he signs up as a henchman for a well-known super villain. McBride will co-write the script with Eastbound & Down writer Shawn Harwell. You have to admit, this sounds absolutely perfect for McBride, as he has the washed-up pro athlete schtick down to a T.
