Though the Continental Congress severed political connections with Great Britain on July 4, 1776, with the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. has never detached with their obsession with the British Royal Family. Just look at 2021 Emmy nominations.
The fourth season of Netflix’ “The Crown” reaped 24 bids — the show has already won 10 Emmys — including series, for leads Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II, Emma Corrin as Diana, the Princess of Wales and Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles and for supporting players Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher, Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret and Emerald Fennell as Camilla Parker Bowles. And Oprah Winfrey’s blockbuster interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was nominated for best hosted nonfiction series or special.

The 2020 Emmy ballots have been released by the Television Academy, so we now know which shows, actors, etc. are in contention for this year’s golden statues. Netflix’s comedy series “After Life” accounts for 10 entries on the performer ballot, including creator/writer/director/producer Ricky Gervais, supporting player Ashley Jensen and lead actress Kerry Godliman. Gervais, a two-time Emmy winner for producing “The Office” and starring on “Extras,” plays Tony, a journalist who essentially becomes a grief addict after his wife dies of breast cancer.
“It’s the most overtly grown-up and vulnerable I’ve been as a performer,” Gervais told Gold Derby after the critically acclaimed second season began streaming on Netflix. He added about his character, “He’s sort of addicted to grief, because hope has let him down too much. There’s a staple in comedy, particularly sitcoms, and that is an ordinary person trying to...

Animal Defenders International (Adi) congratulates the Scottish Parliament for being the first nation in the UK to ban the use of wild animals in travelling circuses. MSPs today unanimously voted through the ban at the final Stage 3 debate for The Wild Animals in Travelling Circuses (Scotland) Bill, which now awaits Royal Assent.
Jan Creamer, President of Animal Defenders International, said: ""The public called for a ban, and the Scottish Government and Parliament listened, banishing travelling circuses with wild animals forever. Meanwhile, England continues to sit on its hands, and a bill nearly 5 years old – no more delays, it’s time to stop circus suffering."
The Wild Animals in Travelling Circuses (Scotland) Bill was introduced in May 2017 following a government consultation, held in January 2014 but the findings of which were not published until June 2015, which revealed a huge distaste for such acts amongst the public. 98% of respondents backed a ban, mirroring...

Stars: Charlie Cox, Billy Cook, Freema Agyeman, Robert Portal, Mackenzie Crook, Eve Myles, Vincent Regan, Tony Curran, Dexter Fletcher, Ruth Jones, Annette Crosbie | Written by Danny King | Directed by Jason Flemyng
The directorial debut of actor Jason Flemyng, this low budget British horror-comedy has a solid cast and a moderately intriguing premise, but it can’t quite decide whether it wants to go for scares or laughs and ends up falling awkwardly between the two.
Written by Danny King (Wild Bill), Eat Locals (originally Eat Local, with an ‘s’ being added in the marketing stage) centres on a coven of centuries-old vampires – including Daredevil’s Charlie Cox, Doctor Who’s Freema Agyeman and One Foot in the Grave‘s Annette Crosbie – convening for their semi-centennial meeting at a remote country farmhouse. Also present is naïve orphan Sebastian (Billy Cook), who thinks he’s on a promise with vampish Vanessa (Eve Myles,...

The Lock, Stock actor makes his directorial debut with a charmingly no-budget horror-comedy that knows far better than to take itself seriously
I don’t like to get too particular about star ratings, but actor Jason Flemyng’s directorial debut Eat Locals is the kind of movie that lies right on the cusp between the two- and three-star astral plains. A larky, cheerfully trashy vampire romp, it was clearly made with a budget of next to nowt and a packet of crisps for the catering table. But it has the wisdom not to take itself seriously in the slightest, and there are moments when it rustles up a few properly amusing gags and well-turned one-liners.
It helps that the cast clearly enjoy sinking their prosthetic teeth into the silliness of playing a cadre of ancient, bickering undead having an away-day meeting at a remote farmhouse when a military unit tracks them to their lair.

The directorial debut of actor Jason Flemyng (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, X-Men: First Class), Eat Locals is an action-packed and darkly comic thriller of supernatural proportions, blending gut-busting laughs with blood-spattered shocks – which reunites the cast of Guy Ritchie’s crime comedy Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, with Nick Moran and Dexter Fletcher both starring and Jason Statham directing the fight scenes!
Billed as “Assault On Precinct 13 meets Interview With A Vampire,” Eat Locals is the story of a coven of bloodsuckers whose bark is almost as bad as their bite. The film stars a plethora of experience actors: Charlie Cox (Stardust, Daredevil), Freema Agyeman (Dr. Who, Sense 8), Mackenzie Crook (Pirates Of The Caribbean, Game of Thrones), Tony Curran (Underworld: Evolution, League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen), Eve Myles (Torchwood), Ruth Jones (Gavin & Stacey, Stella), Annette Crosbie (One Foot In The Grave, Into The Woods) and Vincent Regan (300, Snow White & The Huntsman,...

The new take on Dad's Army gives a standout role to Toby Jones. Here's our review of the new comedy.
Don't panic! Oliver Parker's big screen version of classic British sitcom Dad's Army (48 years old this year) is remarkably faithful to Jimmy Perry and David Croft's much-loved original and by no means the travesty that some had feared. It benefits chiefly from a note-perfect cast and a warm glow of reverential nostalgia that pervades the entire project, but it's slightly let down by a meandering script and the playing-it-safe comedy moments tend to generate amused smiles rather than out-and-out laughter.
Set in 1944, in the fictional seaside town of Walmington-on-Sea, the film stars Toby Jones as Captain Mainwaring, the leader of an elderly platoon of the Home Guard that comprises Oxford-educated Sergeant Wilson (Bill Nighy), doddery Private Godfrey (Michael Gambon), excitable Lance Corporal Jones (Tom Courtenay...

As previously announced on Screenterrier back in October, newcomers 15 year old Archie Cox from Cirencester, who didn't realise he was auditioning for the main role until he was down to the final three, and 16 year old Ruby Ashbourne Serkis, the daughter of actor Lorraine Ashbourne and Andy Serkis who will be making her own television debut, star in the new BBC adaption of of Laurie Lee's classic memoir of the Cotswolds, Cider With Rosie.
The younger versions will be played by Georgie Smith, a ten-year-old schoolboy from Cheltenham, and Libby Easton, a seven-year-old who lives near Laurie Lee’s real home in Slad, pictured above.
Georgie, Libby and Archie were all spotted in Gloucestershire schools, where they were among 500 pupils who took part in casual workshops while casting directors looked on.
Director Phillippa Lowthorpe said: “We really wanted to capture authentic accents and the sense of an innocence you get in the countryside.

The first poster for the new Dad's Army movie has arrived.
The big-screen remake of the classic BBC comedy will march into cinemas on February 5, 2016.
Bill Nighy, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Michael Gambon and Toby Jones all star in the film, which comes from St Trinian's director Oliver Parker.
Tom Courtenay, Danny Mays, Bill Peterson, Sarah Lancashire, Mark Gatiss, Alison Steadman, Annette Crosbie and The Inbetweeners actor Blake Harrison also feature in the all-star cast.
Earlier this year, BAFTA-nominated Jones admitted that he found working on the remake "really nerve-wracking".
Gatiss also revealed that he was initially "sceptical" about the film, but was relieved at finding it to be a "charming" and faithful take on the BBC sitcom.

Walt Disney Pictures released their new musical/fantasy flick "Into The Woods" into theaters this past Thursday. I just checked it out, and thought it was pretty entertaining and more comical than I thought it would be. It stars: Tracey Ullman, Frances de la Tour, Johnny Depp, Lucy Punch, Meryl Streep, Chris Pine, Emily Blunt, Simon Russell Beale, Tammy Blanchard, James Corden, Anna Kendrick, Christine Baranski, Billy Magnussen, Lilla Crawford, Daniel Huttlestone, MacKenzie Mauzy, Richard Glover, Joanna Riding, and Annette Crosbie. The movie revolved a couple of different characters and plotlines that all came together, full circle, towards the end. We saw Cinderella, wishing she could attend the King's festival, but instead, was treated like crap by her evil step sisters. Meanwhile, the baker and his wife wanted to have kids, but found out they were secretly cursed by the witch who had a unpleasant past with the baker's father.

To let you have an even closer look at the characters, a batch of new posters is online. Disney has released a new featurette for their upcoming fairy tale movie musical, Into the Woods. 14 year old newcomer Archie Cox from Cirencester has landed the lead role in the new BBC adaptation of Laurie Lee's classic memoir of the Cotswolds, Cider With Rosie.
The casting directors searched local Gloucestershire schools to find boys with authentic accents and spotted Archie, who they described as "an exciting new discovery", despite the fact that he has no previous acting experience.
Archie will star as Laurie know as 'Lol' in the story which chronicles his journey from boy to man, first love, loss and family upheaval. Lol’s boyhood escapades take place in a rural world as yet untouched by electricity and cars - a place suspended between history and modernity.
Fellow newcomer Ruby Ashbourne Serkis (represented by Lou Coulson), the 16 year old daughter of actors Andy Serkis and Lorraine Ashbourne, will play the author's cousin, the Rosie of the title.

Frankly, it should be criminal how talented Meryl Streep is, and certainly, there will never be another one like her. The three-time Oscar winner has a Wikipedia page dedicated to her various nominations and honors, and from drama to comedy to musicals, she's not only done it all, she's knocked it out the park more often than not. So next her on list of things to do? Play a witch in a Disney musical. The first official look from Rob Marshall's "Into The Woods" has landed, and once again Streep has transformed into a witch who wishes to reverse a curse so that her beauty may be restored. One minute there's a Christmas present. The next minute it's taken away from you. Presumably, the sizeable army of Jonathan Creek fans found this when rumours of a 2012 Christmas special recently surfaced on the web. Alas, it turned out to be a false hope, since the main man himself Alan Davies said that the news was no more than a rumour and that nothing had been set up to compete alongside Time Lord festivities, Brucie's frosty-looking wig and Scrooge-esque happenings in Albert Square.
So what is it about Jonathan Creek that still brings the viewers back for more? The last Christmas special, The Grinning Man (broadcast in 2009) gained nearly 10 million viewers, a strong showing for the festive competition, suggesting that there was still a healthy demand for the unassuming fellah in the duffle coat. Basically, for the most part, it's a two-pronged mystery. Not only can it feature whodunnit elements,...
