Prime Video dropped a sneak peek of “Wheel of Time” Season 2 ahead of its release on Sept. 1, which fans can now watch at the end of last season’s finale.
According to the Amazon-owned streamer, the special look “reflects the structure of the best-selling and epic “The Wheel of Time” book series by Robert Jordan,” in which he would add the first chapter of the next book as a preview.
The scene, which opens the first episode of the second season, is an adaptation of the fan favorite “Darkfriend Social” prologue of the second novel of Jordan’s series, “The Great Hunt,” upon which “Wheel of Time” Season 2 is largely based. It’s also based on some elements of Jordan’s third novel, “The Dragon Reborn.”

Prime Video released the official key art from the second season of ‘The Wheel of Time’. Based on the best-selling Robert Jordan fantasy series The Wheel of Time, Rand al’Thor learns he is The Dragon Reborn – a dangerous figure from history destined to save the world … or break it. Desperate to protect him from the Dark One, an army of powerful women must reckon with his burgeoning power and encroaching madness.
The Wheel of Time turns, and the Last Battle approaches. Though Rand thought he destroyed the Dark One, evil is not gone from the world. In Season Two, threats new and very old seek out the young friends from the Two Rivers, now scattered over the world. The woman who found and guided them is now powerless to help, and so they must find other sources of strength. In each other, or themselves. In the Light… or the Dark.

The new horror film “Crawl” from Paramount Pictures is the story of a father and daughter trapped in a hurricane who find themselves hunted by vicious, monster-sized alligators.
Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper star in the latest film from “The Hills Have Eyes” director Alexandre Aja, and producers Sam Raimi and Craig Flores. And yes, the first trailer for the film is as predictably wild as you’d expect.
“Come on you son of a b—,” Scodelario screams as she hides within a bathtub as an alligator flails against the shower door.

Michael and Shawn Rasmussen wrote the film that Aja directs and also produces. Gregory Levasseur, Justin Bursch and Lauren Selig serve as executive producers.
As a public service announcement, the monsters in “Crawl” are in fact alligators and not crocodiles.

“Re/Collection” is a story that imagines a world where technology has turned human memory into a commodity.
It follows the fallout of this tech on one ordinary couple, and asks the question: What would you sacrifice to save the one you love?

In 1813, renowned writer Jane Austen published a book called Pride and Prejudice, which tells the story of the Bennet sisters, who are gussied up and married off to wealthy suitors, one by one. The only sister who seems to question this system is Elizabeth, the rebellious member of the family, who feels strong disdain for the system that treats her more like property than a proper citizen. In 2009, author Seth Grahame-Smith put a new twist on the old tale by creating a parody novel called Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which loosely follows the same basic outline, but adds an entirely different obstacle to the tale: the living dead.
In Grahame-Smith’s story, the girls are not only fighting for the right to be married into regal families, but also battling for their lives on a daily basis. An outbreak has occurred within these humble streets, and now flesh-eating zombies...

Continuing their support for women directors, Horizon Award co-founding producers Cassian Elwes, Lynette Howell Taylor, and Christine Vachon, announced the winners of the second annual Horizon Award. Academy Award nominee Chloë Sevigny will bestow up-and-coming filmmakers Macarena Gaona, Juliette Gosselin, Shanice Malakai Johnson, and Florence Pelletier with the Horizon Award at a reception in Park City, Utah, with creative talent, producers, entertainment executives and media in attendance to celebrate these rising women directors and their achievements in independent filmmaking.
The Horizon Award ceremony and reception will take place on Sunday, January 24th, 2016 at 6:30 pm at the WireImage Portrait Studio at Village at the Lift (825 Main Street, Park City), co-hosted by Jeff Vespa.
The Horizon Award is an annual award that seeks to identify and mentor talented, up-and-coming female directors – the primary goal being to support women directors early enough in their development to help them overcome the hurdles in advancing their learning curve and careers.
In addition to the Horizon Award, the four winners will receive grants from the Adrienne Shelly Foundation. The Foundation supports the artistic achievements of female filmmakers through a series of grants that reflect Adrienne Shelly’s dedication to the art of filmmaking and her own successful transition from actress to filmmaker.
This year’s winners are:
Horizon Award First Place
Juliette Gosselin (University of Quebec in Montreal) & Florence Pelletier (Concordia University, Montreal)
Co-directors of "Mes Anges à Tête Noire"
Horizon Award Runners-Up
Macarena (Macqui) Gaona (New York University) Director of "Channel 999 and Channel 1000"
Shanice Malakai Johnson (Scottsdale Community College) Director of "End to the Suffering"
On making the announcement, Cassian Elwes said: “I’m so excited to announce the winners of the second annual Horizon Award. This year’s overwhelming number of submissions and caliber of work made it very hard indeed to pick just one winner – the jury identified one grand prize winner, and two runners-up. Additionally, we have added new partners to our already formidable team – proving that not only is the move towards gender equality in the zeitgeist, but that there are very real advocates amongst our peers. After the recent summit for systemic change (hosted by Sundance and Women in Film), I am more convinced than ever that we can make a difference and that history is on our side. I remain steadfastly committed to the idea that, one day soon, women will have exactly the same opportunities as men to direct movies.”
Franklin Leonard, Founder and CEO of The Black List and one of the award’s original advocates added: “We are passionate supporters of this award that recognizes fresh voices and perspectives in storytelling. This effort mirrors our own effort – the Black List's 500 Feminist Films project, created by our Director of Community, Kate Hagen. We look forward to mentoring the winners in the year to come.”
The jury was comprised of 38 influential directors, producers, and executives from the filmmaking community who viewed 483 short film submissions from over 200 colleges and universities world-wide, including the U.S., Canada, England, Australia, India, China, South Africa, Scotland, France, Mexico, Portugal, Columbia, Brazil, Russia, Serbia, the Ukraine, and more. This year, submissions increased by over one hundred from last year, with additional countries and universities participating. Submissions were received from Nyu, USC, UCLA, Chapman, Emerson, Penn State, Loyola Marymount, University of Wisconsin, University of Washington, Syracuse, Tcu, Ryerson (Toronto), Oxford, University of Sydney, University of Melbourne, University of Delhi, and more.
Now in its second year, the Horizon Award provides an all-expense-paid trip for the winning female college students to the Sundance Film Festival, where they will have the opportunity to present their films to some of the industry’s most influential names. The winners receive mentorship, festival access, and important introductions by Elwes, Howell, and Vachon to agents, producers, executives, festival staff, and other influencers throughout the Sundance Film Festival.
The Horizon Award was founded by producer, Cassian Elwes ("Margin Call," "All is Lost," "Dallas Buyers Club"), and Michelle Satter, Founding Director, Sundance Institute’s Feature Film Program, in response to a Sundance Institute and Women In Film Los Angeles study that revealed that only 4.2% of the top 100 films each year from 2002-2013 were directed by women. Elwes partnered with Howell ("Captain Fantastic," "Mississippi Grind," "Big Eyes," "The Place Beyond the Pines:), and Vachon ( "Goat," "Carol," "Boys Don’t Cry," "One Hour Photo," "Far From Heaven"), to create the award as an opportunity for young female directors to have mentorship and networking opportunities in conjunction with Sundance, the home of American Independent film.

Abstract Entertainment and Eracme Entertainment have announced a new major motion picture, entitled Monkey, based on the beloved Chinese story Journey to the West. While it has been portrayed in previous productions in traditional settings, Monkey reimagines the story 4000 years after the original. A contemporary global action movie, Monkey begins when an unimaginable evil is once again threatening the world, bringing the lead character, the Monkey King, and his loyal friends back to save mankind. The film will be co-financed by Eracme Entertainment.
Said Producers Mike Bundlie and Barry Levine:
There has been a rush to bring western-originated movies to the Chinese market. Monkey reverses that and will be the first English language film focused on introducing a Chinese tale to the international audience in a contemporary setting. In the same way that European mythology made a successful transition from period-based films to modern tentpoles, Monkey opens the door...

A new trailer for the film Everest was released the other day, and it looks like it might be that rare “must-see” IMAX movie. I know you’ve probably heard that line before, but this one looks like it could deliver some definite jaw-dropping moments (and maybe even a bit of drama too). Take a look for yourself.
Inspired by the incredible events surrounding an attempt to reach the summit of the world’s highest mountain, Everest documents the awe-inspiring journey of two different expeditions challenged beyond their limits by one of the fiercest snowstorms ever encountered by mankind. Their mettle tested by the harshest elements found on the planet, the climbers face nearly impossible obstacles as a lifelong obsession becomes a breathtaking struggle for survival.

As reported by Deadline, Stanley Kubrick’s written script for The Downslope will now be made into a film series by World War Z and Finding Neverland director Marc Forster, who will serve as producer for all three films and director for the first. Kubrick wrote the script in 1956 after his film Fear and Desire hit theaters, and before he started working on Paths of Glory. The film is said to be “a sweeping, historical action-drama,” according to Deadline, and will revolve around the Civil War. The first film of the trilogy will be based on Kubrick’s script and concept, and the subsequent films will expand on his original ideas and focus on the after-effects of the Civil War.
Kubrick’s death in 1999 has obviously not stopped his ideas from reaching the big screen, as seen with Spielberg’s film A.I. Artificial Intelligence in 2001. That film was brought about...

As one would expect from the ever audacious, thoughtful filmmaker, there are more than a few projects Stanley Kubrick developed but never brought to the screen. Though efforts have been made in the past to bring his unfinished works to life, namely through Steven Spielberg's A.I. Artificial Intelligence or the multiple rumors over the years to satisfy his vision of Napoleon in the form of a film or mini-series, most were put to rest with the filmmaker back in 1999. But apparently one of his earliest unmade screenplays -- 1956's The Downslope -- was dusted off the shelves somewhere in Hollywood recently, and director Marc Forster (World War Z) has decided to take a stab at bringing Kubrick's lost script to the screen. And because it's Hollywood, it'll be not just one film but an entire trilogy. Forster's only attached to direct the first, but plans to produce all three installments,...

The Downslope will be the first in a trilogy that producers Lauren Selig, Barry Levine and Reneé Wolfe are planning based on the iconic director’s unproduced original 1956 screenplay.
Forster will direct the first film and will develop and produce all three after Selig negotiated a deal with rights holders Phil Hobbs and Steve Lanning, who will also serve as producers.
The producers said The Downslope has the full support and encouragement of the Kubrick family and is styled as a sweeping anti-war action-drama that Kubrick wrote after the release of Fear And Desire and before he directed Paths Of Glory.
The story focuses on a series of American Civil War battles in the Shenandoah Valley between Union General George Armstrong Custer and Confederate Colonel John Singleton Mosby, known as the Gray Ghost.

Written in 1956 following the release of Kubrick's allegorical war film “Fear and Desire,” "The Downslope" was a sweeping Civil War action-drama based on historical events. But Kubrick chose to direct instead his Ww I anti-war Oscar-winner “Paths of Glory." "The Downslope" was another cautionary, anti-war tale, that was originally developed with renowned Civil War historian Shelby Foote, who later collaborated with documentarian Ken Burns on his hugely popular PBS series "The Civil War." Forster (“Finding Neverland,” “Monsters Ball") is attached to direct and produce the first in the series and will produce the remaining features. Producers Lauren Selig, Barry Levine and Reneé Wolfe are developing the material with Forster. Selig initiated the project with rights holders Phil Hobbs (“Full Metal Jacket”) and Steve Lanning, who are also producers on the project, which has the full support of the Kubrick...

Though Stanley Kubrick passed away in 1999, movies bearing his name are still working their way to the big screen. Exclusive: Two major developments on Pride And Prejudice And Zombies, the Burr Steers film that mixes the mannered, brain-challenging prose of Jane Austen with brain-eating corpses from hell.
Screen Gems has closed a deal for U.S. distribution rights, and Game Of Thrones‘ Charles Dance and Lena Headey have joined the cast. The film stars Lily James, Sam Riley, Bella Heathcoate, Jack Huston, Douglas Booth, Matt Smith, and Suki Waterhouse.
Screen Gems seems a strong match for this literary mash-up that begins with the tangled relationship between lovers from different social classes in 19th-century England, and is complicated by a full-on outbreak of zombies. That plot embellishment escaped Austen but was added by Seth Grahame-Smith, and it probably would have propelled me to actually finish Austen’s book had she thought of it in the first place. Latest script is by Steers.
The picture has been put together by Cross Creek’s Brian Oliver,...
