Tosh.0 has become the latest Comedy Central live-action series to come to an end as the ViacomCBS network makes a hard pivot to adult animation.
The show created and hosted by comedian Daniel Tosh will end after its upcoming 12th season. ViacomCBS and Tosh plan to shop the series to other networks and digital platforms.
This comes 24 hours after it emerged that Drunk History will not be moving forward with its seventh season.
Tosh.0, which looks at the ever-changing social media landscape, is Comedy Central’s longest-running weekly live-action show. Including the 12th season, which begins September 15, it will reach 300 episodes, having run for 11 years. The final season will feature 10 episodes with its finale on November 24.
“I look forward to doing an animated reboot of my show on MTV in 25 years,” joked Tosh.

“Tosh.0” will end its run on Comedy Central after its upcoming twelfth season.
The cancellations comes despite the fact that Comedy Central picked the show up for four mores seasons back in January. Series host Daniel Tosh signed an overall deal with the network at that time, but it is unclear if he will remain under that deal now that the show is ending.
Season 12 of “Tosh.0” is set to debut on Sept. 15 at 10 p.m. Et and will consist of 10 episodes. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, ViacomCBS is working with Tosh and his team to shop the series to other outlets.

Comedy Central is staying in business with Daniel Tosh. The network and Tosh have closed an overall deal that includes a four-season, 80-episode extension for Tosh.O, as part of a first-look deal that would take the long-running franchise through its 16th season.
The deal would cover new scripted and unscripted development that would potentially feature Tosh on camera, as well as vehicles for other talent. Comedy Central and Tosh are currently in discussions for an unscripted series in which Tosh would host and executive produce and a script deal for which he would serve as an executive producer. Additionally, Comedy Central will launch a dedicated Tosh.0 channel on YouTube in early 2020 and today launched a Tosh.0 channel on Pluto TV, the leading free streaming television service in the U.S. The extension and deal were announced Tuesday as part of Comedy Central’s presentation at the TCA Winter Press Tour.

Viewers are going to be seeing a whole lot more of Daniel Tosh on Comedy Central.
The comedian has signed a new overall deal with Comedy Central, part of which includes a four-season renewal for his “Tosh.0” weekly series, as well as a first-look deal for new scripted and unscripted development.
Tosh and Comedy Central are currently in discussions both on an unscripted series which Tosh is slated to host, and a script deal. The four-season renewal takes the series, which sees Tosh riffing on the best and worst of the internet, through season 16, and Comedy Central has also announced it is launching a dedicated “Tosh.0″ channel on Pluto TV, and a YouTube channel set to launch later this year.
The announcement was made by Comedy Central co-head of original content Sarah Babineau at the network’s Television Critics’ Association press tour day.

Documentary film often hopes to spark some passion in not only its audience but also its subjects. Whether it’s The Look Of Silence’s remorseless murderers being grilled by their old victim or Errol Morris’ multiple efforts to provoke new intellectual or emotional realizations in his man-alone character studies, there’s often an opportunity for reflection on the part of those whose lives are being analyzed. It doesn’t always happen (in the case of Morris’ The Unknown Known, about Donald Rumsfeld, it really didn’t happen), and it’s far from necessary. But it’s an appealing thought for directors, that they might end their feature-length investigations with some tangible evidence that the subject landed in a different place than where they began, the better to match the hoped-for journey of the viewer.

The 19-year-old radical who in the year 1970 researched, wrote and published information on how to construct home-made bombs and weapons with a view to overthrowing the American government was a white-haired gent of 65 when documaker Charlie Siskel interviewed him for American Anarchist, a disturbingly contentious film that seems unable to situate its subject in any historical context. For most viewers, the film’s witch hunt against an aging schoolteacher who long ago changed his political ideas will probably have the opposite effect from what is intended, provoking more sympathy than repulsion. Charlie Siskel tracks down the author of The Anarchist Cookbook, who after decades of denial tacitly accepts the damage caused by his epoch-defining text
Charlie Siskel, along with John Maloof, is responsible for Finding Vivian Maier, the documentary about the Chicago street photographer whose genius was only appreciated with the posthumous discovery of her archive. Now he has turned to another intriguing figure – the once marginal yet centrally important William Powell, author of the notorious, radical underground text The Anarchist Cookbook (1971). This was a book that combined standard-issue revolutionary rhetoric with deadly serious and very practical advice about how to make bombs. It has become a standard text, a locus classicus: but not with the revolutionary left, exactly. The book has been linked with almost every killing spree and mass shooting in the Us.

★★☆☆☆ In a way the title of Charlie Siskel's documentary American Anarchist is something of a misnomer. Anarchy as a political movement doesn't get much in terms of description. Beyond some context about demonstrations in the sixties and William Powell, its subject is only partly American in that he spent his childhood in Britain and the majority of his life in a variety of other countries. However, in 1971 at the age of 19, the book store clerk went to the library, found the military manuals and using the old-fashioned copy and paste of simply copying concocted one of the most controversial and dangerous books of recent years: The Anarchist's Cookbook.

Mel Gibson is not the first person who comes to mind among Oscar contenders. But advance buzz is growing on World War II drama “Hacksaw Ridge” (Lionsgate, November 4), his return to the director’s chair after “Apocalypto” 10 years ago.
See the new trailer here.
No matter how strong and resonant this true story turns out to be—it’s about a conscientious-objector medic (Andrew Garfield) who saves lives in the Battle of Okinawa without using a gun, and wins the Medal of Honor—the likelihood is slim of Gibson landing another Best Picture or Director nomination (he won both Oscars for “Braveheart” back in 1996, his only Oscar nominations). Too many Academy voters will never forgive his past behavior.
But if the movie, which will debut out of competition at the Venice Film Festival (August 31 – September 10), is well received by critics and audiences, other people involved could rise to Oscar contention — most notably,...

Is there a best picture winner in the bunch? The Venice Film Festival has unveiled its 2016 lineup, including both in competition and out of competition offerings, and with the festival’s strong track record of debuting recent best picture winners — from “Spotlight” to “Birdman” — there might be another big winner among the slate’s ranks.
As had been previously announced, the festival will open with Damien Chazelle’s “La La Land,” which will later hit Toronto (and, presumably, also Telluride). The festival will close with Antoine Fuqua’s “The Magnificent Seven,” which kicks off its own festival run days earlier, when it will open Tiff.

On the heels of the Toronto International Film Festival announcement, this year’s slate for the Venice International Film Festival has arrived — and it’s a fantastic-looking line-up. Outside some of the Tiff titles (La La Land, Arrival, Frantz, The Age of Shadows, Nocturnal Animals, etc.), they’ll have the world premiere of one of our most-anticipated films of the year: Terrence Malick‘s documentary Voyage of Time (the 90-minute Cate Blanchett-narrated version).
Also among the premieres are Ana Lily Amirpour’s follow-up to A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, The Bad Batch, Mel Gibson‘s return to the director’s chair, Hacksaw Ridge, Derek Cianfrance‘s The Light Between Oceans, Pablo Larrain‘s Natalie Portman-led Jackie, as well as new films from Andrew Dominik, Lav Diaz, Ulrich Seidl, Emir Kusturica, and more. In Triumph’s one-hour Election Special from Funny or Die, Smigel’s dog will travel to Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina where he will crash campaign events and do his best to poke fun of the media. Variety notes Triumph has already visited a Democratic debate,...

Funny or Die’s next foray into the world of television will bring it to TV Land. The online comedy network is developing a pilot based on Throwing Shade, a podcast web series hosted by Erin Gibson and Bryan Safi.
The TV pilot will feature the same sort of chattiness and candor that viewers can find in the 80 episodes of Throwing Shade available on the Funny Or Die website. “This is Throwing Shade,” explain Gibson and Safi in the beginning of each episode, “where ‘feminasty’ Erin Gibson and homosexual Bryan Safi take a look at the headlines in politics and pop culture and treat them with much less respect than they deserve. Can you handle it?”
The Throwing Shade pilot could fit into TV Land’s expanding lineup. The Viacom-owned channel, best known for airing classic sitcoms, got into originals about five years ago. “We are huge fans of the podcast,...

Five-decade movie veteran Charlotte Rampling,[1] who'll turn 70 next Feb. 5, was one of the day's big winners. Besides being selected Best Actress by the Los Angeles Film Critics for her performance in 45 Years, Rampling was also the 2015 Boston Society of Film Critics' pick. A memorable 87th annual Academy Awards for Fox Searchlight saw Birdman claim best film, director and two other statuettes to tie with The Grand Budapest Hotel’s four-strong haul.
Boyhood, which entered the evening on six nominations and had been expected to push Birdman in several of the senior categories on Sunday night, won a sole best supporting actress for Patricia Arquette.
The film’s time in the Oscar ceremony spotlight will not be forgotten, however, as Arquette paid tribute to her “Boyhood family” and made an impassioned plea for wage equality that spread like wildfire across social media.
Eddie Redmayne from The Theory Of Everything prevailed in a tight best actor contest to deny Michael Keaton another success for Birdman. The popular victory had the British actor jumping with excitement on stage at the Dolby Theatre.

Inarritu, referring to his pal Alfonso Cuaron who enjoyed success with Gravity at last year’s show, says, “Two Mexicans in a row. On Wednesday, the Academy featured the 2014 Oscar-nominated films in the Documentary Short Subject and Documentary Feature categories.
Clips from the nominated films were screened, and nominees for all 10 films took part in panel discussions, talking about their own films and sharing insights on the craft of documentary filmmaking and the greater issues their nominated films explore.
Two-time Oscar winner and Academy documentary branch governor Rob Epstein opened the evening with the documentary shorts.
Epstein won the Oscar for documentary feature in 1984 for The Times Of Harvey Milk and in 1989 for Common Threads: Stories From The Quilt. His other credits include Lovelace (2013) and the TV documentary “And The Oscar Goes To…” (2014)
During his opening remarks, Epstein said the theme that ran through the nominated shorts were “life beginning and life ending.”
All the filmmakers conceded the Cinéma vérité was what was so powerful, so intimate.

When the first Academy Awards were handed out on May 16, 1929, at an Academy banquet in the Blossom Room of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, movies had just begun to talk. The attendance was 270 and guest tickets cost $5. It was a long banquet, filled with speeches, but presentation of the statuettes was handled expeditiously by Academy President Douglas Fairbanks.
The suspense that now touches most of the world at Oscar time was not always a characteristic of the Awards presentation. That first year, the award recipients were announced to the public three months ahead of the ceremony.
Today, Oscar pundits and fans alike avidly watch the precursor and guild awards to ultimately make their predictions in the 24 categories. Academy members have cast their ballots, so now it’s our turn for our Oscar picks.

2014 turned out to be an exceptional year for feature-length documentaries about artists. A film from 2013, Tim’S Vermeer, opened wide that January and was soon followed by Jodorowsky’S Dune, For No Good Reason, Life, Itself, and Glen Campbell: I’LL Be Me. However, the only art doc to be included in the five nominees for Best Documentary Feature Film at the 87th Academy Awards is the acclaimed Finding Vivian Maier. You can read my review here. Recently Wamg was able to speak to the two men behind the film, producer/writer/directors John Maloof (who also narrates the film) and Charlie Siskel.

The work of street photographer Vivian Maier is highly prized by art critics and collectors today, but was largely unseen until after her death in 2009. "Finding Vivian Maier" is a portrait of the artist who lived in secrecy. The self-sworn mystery woman who worked as a nanny in Chicago from family to family, without ever really having one of her own, took over 100,000 photographs that co-director and collector John Maloof unearthed at a junk auction in 2007. A few years later, Maloof had mounted the first show of her work, an elegiac collection of B&W street photography, self-portraits and images of everyday people caught unaware. At that point, he met the film's eventual co-director Charlie Siskel (yes, he's the nephew of Gene), a friend of producer Jeff Garlin and a former protégé of Michael Moore. Together, Maloof and Siskel leapt into the "rabbit hole," as Siskel calls it, of Vivian Maier to co-create a beautiful documentary about the unknowable interiors of The Artist that is now a Best Documentary Oscar nominee. Charlie Siskel and I spoke on the phone,...

The 2015 Ee BAFTA Awards were handed out in London Sunday night and while the broadcast aired hours later in the United States, it didn't stop us from chronicling the twists and turns of a show often seen as a bellwether for the Academy Awards. It took home only three BAFTAs, but "Boyhood" was the biggest winner of the night as it won Best Film and Richard Linklater earned Director honors. "The Grand Budapest Hotel" took home five statues including Original Screenplay for Wes Anderson, Production Design, Costumes, Original Music and Make Up & Hair. "Whiplash" earned three BAFTAs including J.K. Simmons for Supporting Actor, Editing and a somewhat surprising win in Sound. Expected Oscar winners Julianne Moore took Leading Actress and Patricia Arquette took Supporting Actress. Good Morning Oscar fans! Today is nomination day!
Wamg was in the thick of nomination morning fever at the home of the Oscars – the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.
Prior to the announcement, A.M.P.A.S. and the show’s producing team, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, gave the press assembled in the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre a first look at the new Oscar promo featuring host Neil Patrick Harris, titled “Anything Can Happen,” and given what went down this morning, that’s certainly the case.
Let’s get right to the big shockers – No Lego Movie for Best Animated Feature or Life Itself in Best Documentary Feature.
Also missing among the presumed nominees were Ava DuVernay (Selma, directing), Clint Eastwood (American Sniper, directing), Jennifer Aniston (Cake, best actress), David Oyelowo (Selma, best actor), Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler, best actor), Ralph Fiennes (The Grand Budapest Hotel, best actor), Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl,...

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has just finished announcing their nominees for the 87th Annual Academy Awards, with Birdman and The Grand Budapest Hotel leading the way with nine nominations apiece, followed by The Imitation Game with eight. As usual, there were plenty of surprises to be found this morning, so let’s take a look at a few:
Selma ended up not making as grand a showing as many thought it would, nabbing only two nominations (Best Picture and Best Original Song). In a shocking turn of events, Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl has been snubbed from Best Adapted Screenplay after being the leader throughout awards season, making it a wide-open category. Bennett Miller made a completely surprising appearance in Best Director for Foxcatcher, while Steve Carell managed to squeeze into the incredibly crowded Best Actor category. Bradley Cooper has also managed to sneak into Best Actor for American Sniper.
