It’s official. Amazon has confirmed the casting of Maggie Q as star of the upcoming Renée Ballard Bosch spinoff series, which Deadline previously exclusively reported. We’re also getting a first look at Maggie Q and Titus Welliver in sneak peek photos of the Renée Ballard crossover episode in the Bosch: Legacy Season 3 finale. You can see above and below. Additionally, Jet Wilkinson has been tapped to direct the first two episodes of the Untitled Renee Ballard series for Prime Video. Wilkinson also will direct the Season 3 finale of Bosch: Legacy, a crossover which serves as the introduction of Maggie Q as Renée Ballard.
The Untitled Renée Ballard series follows Detective Renée Ballard (Maggie Q), who is tasked with running the LAPD’s new cold case division—a poorly funded, all-volunteer unit with the largest case load in the city. Ballard approaches these frozen-in-time cases with empathy and determination.

In recent years, we've seen more and more news of book-to-film adaptations getting TV remakes. Examples include His Dark Materials, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Interview with the Vampire, Reacher, as well as upcoming high-octane adaptations like Twilight and, of course, Harry Potter.
Some of us see this pop culture phenomenon as a miserable exploitation of once-popular franchises, while others are thrilled by the success of the aforementioned reboots. But what few can argue with is the fact that in 2024, technological capabilities have improved and the series can accommodate much more detail than the movie.
That's why the upcoming Harry Potter show could be a great opportunity for a long-awaited depiction of one of the best moments in the book that was barely touched on in the movie.
New Harry Potter Show Already in the Works
In April 2023, Warner Bros. officially announced that J.K. Rowling's fantasy novels would officially get a new live-action adaptation.

Deadpool & Wolverine is one of the most talked about project to be released this year. With fans deeming it to be the savior of the MCU after the franchise’s dreadful run in the last few years, the upcoming movie has a lot to prove. But given the impact and success of the Ryan Reynolds starrer so far, it’s a more or less safe to bet on the movie. And with Hugh Jackman joining the fray, things are only looking up.
Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson in Deadpool & Wolverine
The movie is expected to have quite a few camoes, with Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Jennifer Garner’s Elektra already confirmed. Deadpool is supposedly going to travel across timelines and meet various mutants as well as variants of himself. The movie already features Dogpool, which we already know is going to be an absolute hoot. But let...

I’ll be honest, I had no idea what to expect going into The Spiderwick Chronicles. The original books, despite likely being right up my Percy Jackson-loving alley, completely passed me by as a kid. And while I have vague memories of the trailers for the 2008 film adaptation, I never actually saw the film for myself.
As such, I cannot speak to how the new series, originally produced for Disney+ and nearly thrown in the bin as a cost-cutting measure before being rescued by The Roku Channel, plays as an adaptation or how faithful it is to the source material; though given that the original authors are executive producers, I imagine it’s at least faithful enough.
What I can say is that as an urban fantasy series, The Spiderwick Chronicles is utterly delightful. A creative and consistently captivating show that when it’s not giving you a new...

Avatar: The Last Airbender takes its time in establishing the characters. From Aang to the Fire Lord Ozai, each and every character is anything but flat. They have depth in layers that would make an onion look simple. When fans think about them, they do not see characters but actual people.
Such was the magic that Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante Dimatrino brought to the world.

Avatar: The Last Airbender has always been a journey of finding how to handle responsibility. It follows the hopes and dreams of people, their daily lives, and through it; a world filled with power and great opportunities. In a show that deals with many emotions, it takes a good amount of endurance to not make it through without feeling your heart squeeze within your chest.
A still from Avatar: The Last Airbender
Throughout the story, Aang finds himself battling with the idea of understanding what it really means to be the Avatar. It is not something he comes to terms with immediately, nor is he too fond of the idea. The very thought of holding such a title frightened him.

Logan Lerman and Joey King star in the Hulu series, We Were The Lucky Ones, based on the book of the same name by Georgia Hunter. The series and book explore the dramatized version of how siblings Addy and Halina, the former of whom is Hunter’s grandfather, survived the Holocaust. While promoting the series on the red carpet of its premiere at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles, Lerman shared that the story drew him because it was a ‘real’ Holocaust story.

Logan Lerman, best known for the Percy Jackson film series, began acting in commercials when he was young and made his film debut in 2000 with the movie The Patriot. After starring in several movies, he decided he needed a break in the early 2000s and would return to the industry when he was 12. In 2004, he was cast in one of the two titular roles in the TV series Jack & Bobby.
Logan Lerman in Hunters
By the time he was cast as the titular character in the 2009 movie Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, he had appeared in numerous projects and won three Young Artist Awards. The movies have been criticized for deviating from the source material for years. With the release of the new Disney+ series, fans were hoping to have those mistakes corrected. However, Lerman’s recent words have drawn a surprisingly new reaction from them.

“Yasmeen’s Element” opens with a quote about education from Malala Yousafzai. It’s a smart move, immediately bringing the topic to the forefront of the viewing experience while invoking one of the most famous advocates of girls’ education, one who hails from co-writer and Pakistani-American director Amman Abbasi’s country of origin. But the film, an enthralling escapade centered on the title character and co-written by Jeffrey E. Stern and Sana Jafri, doesn’t need it

One day, the teacher dismisses students early after speaking with soldiers outside the school, assigning everyone one element from the periodic table to present on the next day. FX’s Shōgun came out of the gate strong with its streaming debut.
According to Disney, the premiere episode of the limited series amassed 9M views globally across Hulu, Disney+ and Star+ in its first six days on these services. Internationally, this makes Shōgun the No. 1 general entertainment series for the company, surpassing The Kardashians Season 1.
Domestically, Disney says that Shōgun inched ahead of The Bear Season 2 to become the No. 1 FX premiere on its streaming platforms, certainly aided by the fact that FX releases are now also available on Disney+ for Bundle subscribers. The Bear Season 2 didn’t have that luxury.
Disney defines “views” as total stream time divided by runtime, similar to Netflix. The company rarely releases definitive streaming data, which makes Shōgun‘s performance difficult to compare to anything else.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians has been doing phenomenal numbers for Disney+ with 110 million hours streamed as of Feb. 7, according to a press release. Fans of this beloved Rick Riordan book series have been waiting nearly two decades for a worthwhile adaptation, and thanks to Riordan’s involvement and an immense amount of care from the cast and crew, Disney+ seems to have struck gold with this franchise.
However, Percy Jackson and the Olympians isn’t the only mythology-based middle grade book series that Rick Riordan has written. The Kane Chronicles may not be as well-known as its Greek predecessor, but this 2010s trilogy based on Egyptian mythology still has a dedicated fan base eager to see these characters on screen.

From the beginning, Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+ was promised to be a faithful adaptation of Rick Riordan's books — and, for the most part, Season 1 succeeded in doing this.
Of course, the first season of the show is not 100% entirely and completely identical to The Lightning Thief (the first of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians novels). In fact, several key story elements were added or changed.
Season 1 allowed the Medusa sequence to reflect the more mature elements of her myth, Grover saw brand new lore added, and multiple episodes included brand new flashbacks to Percy's childhood.
