Kim Jee-woon’s black comedy “Cobweb,” which debuted this year at Cannes, is set for a U.S. theatrical release in early 2024. Rights to the picture were licensed by distributor Samuel Goldwyn Films from Korea-based sales agent Barunson E&a.
The 1970s-set film within a film stars Song Kong-ho, star of Oscar-winning “Parasite” and 2022 winner of the best actor award at Cannes for his role in Kore-eda Hirokazu’s “Broker.”
Song appears as obsessive film director Kim, who is seized by the desire to re-shoot the ending of his completed film “Cobweb” in two days to create a masterpiece. Chaos lurks around every corner, from his confused and uncooperative cast and crew to interference from the then all-powerful censorship authorities.
Following its premiere at Cannes in May, the Anthology Studios-produced “Cobweb” will play at fall festivals including the 19th Fantastic Fest, the BFI London Film Festival and the 56th Sitges Film Festival.

Neil Marshall’s 2019 “Hellboy” reboot was controversial from the start as it meant the franchise would officially be taken out of the hands of Guillermo del Toro and actor Ron Perlman, who collaborated on the original “Hellboy” movie in 2004 and its 2008 sequel “Hellboy II: The Golden Army.” Del Toro and Perlman’s movies were critical hits and fan favorites. Marshall’s 2019 reboot not so much. David Harbour took over the role, but apparently Perlman had the chance to return. In a new interview with Cbm, the original “Hellboy” actor confirms he turned down the reboot because of loyalty to del Toro.
“The reboot was something I had the opportunity to participate in and decided that the only version of ‘Hellboy’ I’m interested in is the one I do with Guillermo,” Perlman said. “So in walking away from it, I truly walked away from it, and haven’t seen it or heard much about it.

It’s going on *checks calendar* 12 years since Hellboy waged war against the Golden Army, and we’re beginning to wish Big Red – the Guillermo del Toro version, that is – hung around long enough to enjoy the Golden Age of Superhero Movies.
Had things panned out differently, we may have got a chance to see del Toro and co. create an R-rated Hellboy movie, one which prodded the darker corners of Mike Mignola’s source material.
Alas, soon after The Golden Army premiered, it quickly became apparent that del Toro and Ron Perlman would never return to Big Red, leaving Lionsgate with the keys to the kingdom. Fast forward to 2019, and moviegoers laid eyes on a middling reboot headed up by David Harbour of Stranger Things fame, and while Neil Marshall’s fantasy flick wasn’t without its highlights, it only made us miss del Toro’s version that little bit more.

Guillermo del Toro declared “Hellboy” one of the top five best-directed movies in his filmography during a recent Twitter thread in which he reminisced on his fan-favorite comic book film franchise. Del Toro launched “Hellboy” in 2004 after spending years in development on the project. Studios weren’t too keen on adapting an untested comic book property like “Hellboy” prior to the back-to-back success of “X-Men” and “Spider-Man,” both of which arrived after “Blade” had a successful critical and commercial debut in late 1998. Del Toro would go on to direct “Blade II” before finally landing the go-ahead to helm “Hellboy” at Sony under Columbia Pictures.
“The first ‘Hellboy’ movie was developed before even X-Men was on film,” del Toro wrote. “I remember visiting the ‘Mystery Men’ set to try to convince Universal to green light it. It languished for a long time. To my mind, the first ‘Blade’ was instrumental in...

Exclusive: Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired U.S. rights to the Richard Kind sci-fi movie Auggie from Myriad Pictures.
Directed and written by Matt Kane and co-written and produced by Marc Underhill of Thundercane Productions, Auggie follows early retiree Felix Greystone (Kind) who falls in love with an augmented reality companion, to the detriment of his relationship with his wife and daughter.
At his “early retirement” party, Felix is given a pre-release version of an “Auggie,” a pair of augmented reality smart glasses that project a perfectly human companion onto his world. When Felix’s wife Anne gets a promotion and his daughter Grace gets serious with her boyfriend, Felix suddenly feels very alone. He opens up to his new companion and is recognized and appreciated by her, and begins to fall for her.
Larisa Oleynik, Susan Blackwell and newcomer Christen Harper also star.
Auggie made its world premiere at Cinequest Film and Creativity Festival 2019 and later screened as part of the official selection in the Beverly Hills Film Festival and the Newport Beach Film Festival.
Said Kane, “Marc and I are thrilled to be partnering with Samuel Goldwyn Films, a company with deep roots in the world of quality film. We couldn’t think of a better fit to bring this film to audiences in the U.S.”
The deal was negotiated by Ben Feingold from Samuel Goldwyn with Kirk D’Amico from Myriad on behalf of the filmmakers.
Kind’s credits include Spin City, Gotham, American Dad and Amazon’s Red Oaks as well as such movies as Oscar Best Picture winner Ago, Pixar’s Inside Out and the Coen Brothers’ A Serious Man.

Samuel Goldwyn Films has announced today the acquisition of Quinn Shephard’s teen drama “Blame,” which bowed earlier this year at the Tribeca Film Festival.
The New Jersey native was just 15 when she came up with the idea for what would become her feature directorial debut, a modern high school-set take on Arthur Miller’s classic play “The Crucible.” Seven years later her ambitious idea, Shephard debuted the film at Tribeca, one that she not only stars in, but also wrote, directed, edited and produced. At 22, she’s reached a benchmark that usually takes most filmmakers a few more years of work.

Franklin Franklin (Lucas) plays the alphorn and dreams of Switzerland. His crazy brother sends him fingernail clippings in the mail. One of his neighbours is a forgetful pot-head, the other a gruff busy-body who doesn’t miss anything. Across the street live a mother and her fifteen-year-old daughter, whom he likes to watch from his window, but none of these are Franklin’s real problem.
