"This place is paradise... until it's not." Black Mandala + Tubi have revealed one more official trailer for the film Escaping Paradise, a campy action thriller from filmmaker Paul Tanter. This premiered at a festival earlier in the year, however with Tubi premiering it soon they've put out a trailer to get a look at it. When a young couple vacations on an exotic island, they encounter a dangerous fugitive who is determined to keep them from leaving. This seems to be set in the Philippines but they never mention it. Another one of these projects they made just so they could take a vacation and write off expenses, while making a junk action film no one will watch. It stars Deji Laray, Shayla Hale, Michael Bacalso, Ken Bressers, Andrew Davis II, Kylah Dela Peña, with Simon Phillips as Kane. Of course this guy just happens to be a former Black Ops,...

Sibling graverobbers spark off each other in the somewhat true story of an attempt to ransom the comedy legend’s body
At one point in Stealing Chaplin, a sozzled huckster tries to pry open a Union Jack-draped coffin as Land of Hope and Glory rings out on the soundtrack. Maybe this somewhat amateurish but spunky low-budget crime film has hit on something: in the post-Brexit era, Brits are no longer stock movie villains; conmen and chancers are our natural fits now. The hustle here is in splendidly questionable taste: the casket is Charlie Chaplin’s, whom brother grifters Cal (Simon Phillips) and Terry (Doug Phillips) have disinterred in order to ransom his body so they can pay off the $30,000 they owe to Las Vegas gangsters.
You’d be forgiven for being suspicious, but this is actually based on a true story – though the theft occurred in 1978 in Switzerland, where Chaplin is buried in real life.

Paul Tanter, Simon Philips and Mem Ferda Pick up the Reins on The United States of Horror: Chapter 1
The United States of Horror: Chapter 1 is a horror anthology, which will have at least three chapters. Built on a series of short stories, this anthology takes place in every state of the good ol' US of A. Helmed by Paul Tanter (No Easy Days), Mem Ferda (The Devil's Double) and Simon Philips will act as producers on the project, with Doug Bradley (Hellraiser) acting as narrator. Very much a terrifying anthology, the anthology's first poster is available here, along with the trailer. Ferda spoke of the attachment of Doug Bradley to the project. He says: "we are overjoyed and thrilled to have Hellraiser’s Pinhead himself, Doug Bradley onboard, who will be narrating across all three chapters." Bradley is a veteran of the horror film community and will be prominent in this release. The producers have confirmed that Chapter 1 of The United States of Horror will debut this October.

The 1978 theft of Charlie Chaplin’s coffin from its rural Swiss resting place was the kind of bizarre case — equal parts absurd caper and poignant story of human desperation, escalating wildly and ending with peace restored — that you’d expect to have been the subject of at least one hefty true-crime movie. Instead, it seems to keep inspiring curious sideways riffs on history.
In 2014, French auteur Xavier Beauvois heavily fictionalized the identities and motives of the grave-robbers for his sweetly mournful “The Price of Fame,” attempting to channel some of Chaplin’s sentimental underdog spirit in lieu of factual fidelity. Yet that film was a veritable documentary compared to “Stealing Chaplin,” a broad, shaggy farce with an opening title card that claims “inspired by a true story” credentials, and a title that represents the full extent of that inspiration.

I reviewed Once Upon Time At Christmas in 2018 and although it was a decent enough low budget slasher movie, it’s not a movie I was expecting a sequel to appear from. Yet here we are two years later with The Nights Before Christmas.
The synopsis in very simple terms, is basically the same as the first film. Santa Claus (well a guy dressed as him) goes on a killing spree, accompanied by Mrs Claus and being chased by the F.B.I. Being a slasher means that a lot of the enjoyment from this for many will be how entertaining the death scenes are. And in that regard, The Nights Before Christmas does pretty well for itself.

[Note: With the film screening as part of this years Horror-On-Sea Film Festival, here's a reposting of our review of the seasonal slasher Once Upon a Time at Christmas]
Christmas horror is one of my favourite sub genres. It of course includes such classics as Gremlins, Black Christmas, Silent Night, Deadly Night and Krampus. But with a collection like mine, it also includes lesser known or cult classic titles such as P2, Santa’s Slay, Jack Frost and Rare Exports… to name but a few. So I am always on the look out for new holiday horror. Which is the reason I watched Once Upon A Time At Christmas well outside of the usual November/December time frame.
Once Upon A Time At Christmas is, in very basic terms, a slasher movie set at Christmas – which is no bad thing.

An uneasy truce exists between the vampires on the East Coast and humans on the West Coast who keep their foes at bay with a weekly blood donation while secretly planning a nuclear strike to end the war.
The series stars Nicola Posenor, David Meadows and Estella Warren. Aold Productions’ Philips and Hmb’s Phil Goldfine brokered the deal with Chartier.

"You are witnessing history today." XLrator Media has debuted a trailer for an indie action movie titled Kill Ratio, which looks like another formulaic action flick. The plot involves an American covert operative who becomes the one man who can save an entire country when a "ruthless military leader" attempts a coup. Tom Hopper (from "Black Sails", "Merlin" and Knights of Badassdom) stars, with Lacy Moore, Amy Huberman, Nick Dunning, Conor Hegarty, Brian McGuinness and Michelle Lehane. This looks particularly cheesy, especially considering it's another action movie that takes place inside of one building. The sword fight at the end nearly made me roll my eyes. I'm not expecting much from this, but who knows. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Paul Tanter's Kill Ratio, direct from YouTube: An attack on the new President of a fledgling Eastern European democracy pits an American covert operative (Tom Hopper) against...

With the release of Paul Tanter's action flick Kill Ratio looming over us it is time to share an exclusive clip with you from the flick. In it, our hero, James Henderson, is engaged in a fierce fire fight with some militants while Tania gives a stirring speech during a live broadcast. Usually those kind of speeches usually take place in the third act so let us assume that Henderson has been killing lots of bad guys up to this point. Let's have some fun with this clip, shall we? I understand you have a budget and taking your cue from the RocketJump school of filmmaking (seriously no slight against those guys, they're awesome) you have used your after effects to digitally add muzzle flashes...

Imagine a dystopic world in which children haven't been born in 25 years. It's total chaos. With no one left to inherit the earth, the surviving humans have pretty much run the planet into the ground. It's in this world that the new 10 episode series "Dystopia" unfolds.
The series, with British director Paul Tanter behind the camera, stars Michael Copon and Sheena Colette as a pair of scientists who "stumble upon time travel and the opportunity to change their fate, but all is not certain as changes they make in the past have unforeseen life threatening consequences in their future." Basically, it's Children of Men with time travel.

Allegedly based on a true story, four lads get into deep water when a honeytrap card scam rips off the wrong man
There's the occasional bit of energy and flash to this geezery caper from director and co-writer Julian Gilbey, but it's let down by the Hollyoaks acting and humourless unbelievability. The film is allegedly based on a true story, the kind of true story which is probably mixed in with a good bit of urban myth, unverifiable crim legend and late-night Groucho Club anecdote; there is a faint resemblance to the plot of another London crime thriller, Paul Tanter's The Rise and Fall of a White-Collar Hooligan. Ed Speelers, Alfie Allen, Will Poulter and Sebastian De Souza play a quartet of chancers who run a scam blackmailing businessmen, honeytrapping them with prostitutes, then forcing them to hand over their credit-card details and Pin codes to let our antiheroes...

You know there's a fine line between inspiration and imitation. One look at the trailer for the movie Shame the Devil and you'll easily be able to pinpoint how the filmmakers felt about the flick Saw!
From director Paul Tanter comes a movie that's trying incredibly hard to emulate James Wan and Leigh Whannell’s 2004 Saw. The question is... is this a loving homage and testament to that film's staying power or is this just a lame cash grab that's arrived about 9 years too late? Tell us what you think in the comments section below.
In the movie... "a London detective tracking a serial killer finds the killers “truth or die” methods take him to New York to solve the case.”

If I was to ask you to think of action movies set in tower blocks you could probably come up with movies like Die Hard, Dredd and The Raid as being some of the most popular. Working with these type of settings it allows the film to have a certain controlled level of action and even set the fighting at levels of hardness. This is something that He Who Dares does, but at a low-budget and with a certain degree of British patriotism.

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by Studiocanal. Director: Paul Tanter. Writers: James Crow, Simon Phillips and Paul Tanter. Cast: Tom Benedict Knight, Simon Phillips, Christina Bellavia and Ewan Ross. Director Paul Tanter (Jack Falls) has reteamed with actor Simon Phillips for another action thriller. Their latest is called He Who Dares. This United Kingdom shot film focuses on the action, while the story comes across as a little simplistic. Still, it is hard to go wrong with a hostage situation, set two hundred feet below ground. Much of the action is caught with Tanter's use of quick cuts and edits, which helps amplify the violent tension onscreen. He Who Dares is a solid action film for those looking for some light entertainment. The film begins with the villain Holt (Phillips). Holt ambushes the daughter of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He hustles Alice (Christina Bellavia) deep below ground,...

With the odds of coming back out of the building alive stacked against them, their only option is to take the fifteen storey building one floor at a time in the hope of reaching the hostages before it’s too late.
