“I hadn’t played in the sandpit of science fiction before,” exclaims John Crowley about directing “Black Mirror: Beyond the Sea.” In our recent webchat he adds, “I was delirious with joy doing it. The playfulness of realizing it visually was extraordinary.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

Not to be confused with the 1986 Gary Paulsen novel that was on your fifth-grade reading list, Adam Green's 2007 slasher "Hatchet" was intended to be an homage to the plentiful stalk-and-kill movies from the 1980s. The first "Hatchet" takes place deep in the swamps of Louisana where feckless city-dwellers get lost while taking a swamp tour. They trade stories of Victor Crowley, a local kid with facial differences who, years ago, was trapped in a burning house set ablaze by prankster teens. Crowley was accidentally killed by his father when he recklessly used a hatchet to free him from the fire. Victor's spirit is now said to haunt the swamp and murder interlopers. Of course, Victor will appear to start the predicted murders.
Victor Crowley was played by stuntman Kane Hodder, perhaps best known for playing the masked killer Jason Voorhees in "Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood,...

It will be worth it. That’s what the first two seasons of Good Omens have taught us as we await the third to return. The Prime Video series, based on the book of the same name by Neil Gaiman and Sir Terry Pratchett and now expanding on that story, began by following the angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and the demon Crowley (David Tennant) over the leading up to their attempt to stop Armageddon after the birth of the antichrist. The second season moved beyond the book and saw Aziraphale and Crowley hiding the amnesiac archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm) from both Heaven and Hell before it ended in heartbreak. We know it will be some time before we find out what happens next, so below, we’re gathering everything we know about the future of Good Omens, including teases we got from Gaiman. Where Did Good Omens Season 2 Leave Crowley & Aziraphale?...

The Conservative Political Action Committee has returned to D.C. this week for its annual conference, and it’s serving up heaping platters of lazy, hateful political commentary to conservative voters.

This past week saw the release of The Book of Clarence, a movie about a down-on-his-luck guy who hits upon a get-rich-quick scheme that leads him into a heap of trouble. It’s a classic topic for a movie, but it is treading on more controversial ground than usual. Because in the case of this story about a hustler getting in over his head, the hustle happens to be set around Israel and Palestine during the life and times of Jesus of Nazareth. In fact, that is Clarence’s whole scheme: He sees Jesus and decides to get into the messiah business.
This is not the first film to portray the story of one of Jesus’ fictional contemporaries. Monty Python’s Life of Brian attracted protests, controversy, and endless talk show guest slots over its portrayal of a man who was definitely not the messiah, just a very naughty boy.

On Wednesday, former President Donald Trump was admonished by Judge Lewis A. Kaplan during his defamation trial brought by columnist E. Jean Carroll. Kaplan warned Trump to stop speaking while witnesses were talking and told him that he would not hesitate to eject him from the courtroom.
“Mr. Trump has the right to be present here,” Kaplan said. “That right can be forfeited and it can be forfeited if he is disruptive, which is what has been reported to me consists of. And if he disregards court orders, Mr. Trump, I hope I don’t have to consider excluding you from the trial. I understand you’re probably eager for me to do that.”
“I would love that,” Trump dryly responded.
Earlier in the day, Kaplan told the jury before that he had already decided that Trump sexually abused Carroll and that their only role would be to determine the extent of monetary damages.

One of the most daunting challenges of “Wonka” was coming up with the design of the fantastical chocolate shop at the centerpiece of Paul King’s origin story. In a way, it’s a forerunner of the famous chocolate factory with echoes of the chocolate room, boat, and chocolate river, which King channels from both the 1964 Roald Dahl novel (“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”) and the 1971 film starring Gene Wilder (“Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory”).
However, it’s the invention of a crucial childhood memory that propels the journey of inventor, magician, and chocolatier Willy (Timothée Chalamet), who arrives in Europe to establish his chocolate shop at the Galeries Gourmet, only to run up against a ruthless chocolate cartel. But through a combination of creative ingenuity, heroic teamwork, and the most magical chocolate ever imagined, Willy manages to open his shop — at least temporarily.

When Paul King's 2014 film "Paddington" came out, audiences had reason to be skeptical. The beloved title character, a talking Peruvian bear left alone at London's Paddington station, wasn't necessarily a good fit for a live-action take. Movies like 2002's "Scooby Doo" and 2007's "Alvin and the Chipmunks" were proof that audiences would show up for CGI versions of classic characters, but the movies could also be ugly and loud, the most cynical kind of children's movie. Nobody wanted that fate for Paddington Bear.
But the character flourished in the new medium. King's film received a great deal of critical praise, getting a 97% positive approval rate on RottenTomatoes. The movie was sparkling, playful, and gleefully imaginative, and rather than stop the movie dead, Paddington's (voiced by Ben Wheatley) wild antics set the stage for physical comedy in the vein of Charlie Chaplin. 2017's "Paddington 2" was even better, finding...

Four-time Academy Award nominee Nathan Crowley grew up in England with his mother reading Roald Dahl stories to him. So he reached a full circle moment when, decades later, he was asked to serve as the production designer on Paul King’s “Wonka,” which offers a heartwarming origin story for Dahl’s iconic chocolatier.
“Obviously, the film when I was a young kid was unbelievable — Gene Wilder!” Crowley tells Variety. “How old was I, seven? It was just magic. It was part of my youth. So to get to do a ‘Wonka’ film, why wouldn’t you do that?”

Some good comes with some bad. Prime Video has announced a Season 3 renewal for its fan-favorite series “Good Omens,” starring David Tennant and Michael Sheen. However, the third season will be its last.
While the British comedy series was initially launched as a limited series, its popularity led to it being renewed for a second season, which premiered this past July. The story follows fussy angel and rare book dealer Aziraphale (Sheen) and fast-living demon Crowley (Tennant), who team up to form an unlikely alliance in an attempt to stop the approaching Armageddon.
Watch the trailer for “Good Omens” Season 2 below:

David Tennant and Michael Sheen are back in the third series of Good Omens, here are the details.
Neil Gaiman’s television adaptation of his and Terry Pratchett’s fantasy series Good Omens has been hugely successful these past few years, not least due to the chemistry and charisma of leading duo David Tennant and Michael Sheen. The second series, which debuted in August, was reported to be the number one show on Amazon Prime worldwide, and the first season was hardly struggling for acclaim, either.
A third series commission has been on the cards for a while, with the caveat that producer, director and co-showrunner Douglas Mackinnon would not be returning.
However, that hasn’t stopped Amazon pressing ahead with the third and final series.
While plot details are thin on the ground, we do know that David Tennant and Michael Sheen will be reprising their roles as fast-living...

The tale of the Ineffable Husbands isn't over just yet. Amazon has officially picked up "Good Omens" for a third and final season, with Neil Gaiman once again serving as showrunner, executive producer, and writer. For Gaiman, in particular, season 3 will offer him a chance to complete the story that he and the late, great Terry Pratchett -- his co-writer on the original "Good Omens" novel and the Aziraphale to his Crowley -- first began plotting out nearly 35 years ago.
After canceling the apocalypse in season 1, the angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and the demon Crowley (David Tennant) spent most of "Good Omens" season 2 trying to uncover how Aziraphale's old boss, the archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm), came to find his way to Aziraphale's bookshop on Earth devoid of memories, clothes, and his not-so-winning smug personality. The first season was based on Sir Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman‘s internationally best-selling novel, and the second began expanding on the story of the angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and the demon Crowley (David Tennant). The upcoming season “will bring to life a serendipitous conversation from almost 35 years ago, between Neil Gaiman and the late Sir Terry Pratchett, where they mapped out ‘what happens next’ to the wonderful characters in the world of their internationally best-selling novel,” according to Prime Video. Filming on the final season of the comedic fantasy drama will begin soon in Scotland. An episode count has yet to be announced; the first two seasons each consisted of six.

The end of the world is really coming this time: “Good Omens” has been renewed for a third and final season at Amazon.
Created by Neil Gaiman and based on the novel co-written by Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett, “Good Omens” follows the friendship between the fussy angel and rare-book dealer Aziraphale and fast-living demon Crowley, a pair of apocalypse-fighting, millennia-long best friends played by Michael Sheen and David Tennant, respectively.
The first season of the series debuted on Amazon’s Prime Video in 2019. At the time, it was intended as a limited series. But the show was renewed for a second season in 2021, which is when Gaiman revealed he had hatched the idea for a sequel with Pratchett before his death in 2015.
The second season debuted in July — amid the now-ended writers and actors strikes — and ended on a massive cliffhanger that suggested Gaiman had more planned before this heavenly tale was done.

Amazon is making one final trip to hell.
The streamer has renewed Good Omens, the fantasy-comedy that started as a limited series, for a third and final season. Production on the show from BBC Studios, and based on the novel by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, is expected to begin soon in Scotland.
“I’m so happy finally to be able to finish the story Terry and I plotted in 1989 and in 2006,” Gaiman said in a release announcing the news Thursday. “Terry was determined that if we made Good Omens for television, we could take the story all the way to the end. Season one was all about averting Armageddon, dangerous prophecies and the End of the World. Season two was sweet and gentle, although it may have ended less joyfully than a certain Angel and Demon might have hoped. Now in season three, we will deal once more with the end of the world.

Production designer Nathan Crowley tells us about his first movie with Christopher Nolan – 2002’s Insomnia, and its chilly outdoor filmmaking.
Having broken through with the low-budget thriller Memento (2000), Christopher Nolan made his Hollywood debut with Insomnia in 2002 – a remake of the Norwegian film of the same name. Starring Al Pacino as a quietly guilt-ridden LA cop investigating a murder in an Alaskan fishing town, Insomnia was also lit up by supporting performances from Hilary Swank as a rookie officer and the late Robin Williams as a shifty potential suspect.
Although some filmmakers may have regarded Insomnia as a work-for-hire gig, Nolan brought all his skill and attention to detail to bear on the movie, using his expanded budget (some $46m versus Memento’s $5-ish million) to make a measured, stunning-looking thriller. (Cinematographer Wally Pfister’s early shot of a plane flying over Alaskan wastes is quite a sight on a big screen.

Exclusive: production designer Nathan Crowley explains how his early work on Steven Spielberg’s Hook and Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula led to the practical sets of Wonka.
About the younger years of the magical confectioner Willy Wonka, director Paul King’s musical prequel Wonka is an ingenious fusion of cutting-edge CGI and traditional effects and props. A performance-captured Hugh Grant may play a particularly grumpy Oompa Loompa, but the film also takes in practical sets, location filming, and real props.

Jack Black celebrated the 100 birthday of Tom Morello’s mom Mary with the gift of song. The actor-musician joined a band of ridiculously talented 12 and 13 year olds to perform the Ozzy Osbourne classic “Mr. Crowley” during a birthday party for the centenarian.
Tom shared video of the performance on his Instagram account on Tuesday (October 3rd), writing, “Mary Morello’s 100th bday celebration featured a stirring rendition of @ozzyosbourne & #RandyRhoads ‘Mr. Crowley’ performed by @jackblack and a kick ass band of 12 & 13 year olds! Mary was pleased!”
Black performing an Ozzy song about the notorious British occultist Aleister Crowley for the 100th birthday of the mother of Rage Against the Machine’s guitarist is truly a wild thought, but then again, we wouldn’t expect anything less from the Tenacious D singer.

The series adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s book, Good Omens, became a big hit when the show hit Prime Video. This summer saw the release of Good Omens 2, the follow-up to the successful first run. Michael Sheen has become the face of the character of Aziraphale, but Gaiman has recently revealed in a Tumblr post that he originally had another actor in mind as the angel. A fan asked him if anyone else came close to playing the roles of the duo. In a response, it was unveiled that Sheen was actually intended for Crowley, and Gaiman wanted Hugh Grant to embody Aziraphale.
ComingSoon.net reports that Gaiman explained, “I remember spending a lot of time pondering who Aziraphale could be back when Crowley was going to be Michael, and I think Hugh Grant was a leading contender in my head, but then somewhere in the middle of writing episode...

I took some time off this week. Unfortunately, my wife and I lost our little puppy son, Logan, who was a big part of our lives for nine years. If you've been a regular reader of my writing on Daily Dead, chances are he was on my lap while it was being written. Reading comic books and writing and horror has always been a great source of comfort for me, so I wanted to share some news that has me really looking forward to November 8th: the date when Count Crowley returns in Count Crowley: Mediocre Midnight Monster Hunter. Details are below, along with a look at the main cover from Lukas Ketner and the variant from Francesco Francavilla:
Eager fright fans won't have to wait much longer for a new chapter starring their favorite horror host, for the incredible team of David Dastmalchian, Lukas Ketner, Lauren Affe, and...

Screambox is headed back into the swamp with Victor Crowley, as the Bloody Disgusting-powered streamer has added a trio of Hatchet sequels, all courtesy of MPI/Dark Sky Films.
The following Hatchet films are now streaming on Screambox…
Hatchet II, which was directed by Adam Green, serves up a ferocious and exceptionally gory dose of splatterific entertainment with groundbreaking make-up effects, a wildly twisted sense of humor, and an even darker and bloodier ride than the first film. In the film, Marybeth (Danielle Harris) manages to escape the clutches of the bayou-butcher Victor Crowley and returns to the swamp with an army of hunters and gunmen, determined to end Crowley’s reign of horror forever.
In Hatchet III, directed this time by Bj McDonnell, the murderous slasher Victor Crowley takes on an entire police department, paramedic team, and heavily armed S.W.A.T. unit, forcing Marybeth and the troops into an epic showdown.

This article contains spoilers for "Good Omens" season 2.
If you watched "Good Omens" season 2 when it debuted in July, chances are you've spent the last several weeks humming the same song as a few million other fans of the show. Buddy Holly's "Everyday" is the unofficial theme song of the fantasy comedy series' second season, and it's an earworm that's both impossible to shake and too fun to even want to.
"Everyday" first appeared in the sophomore season trailer, and seemed to be hinting towards some sort of countdown. "Every day/it's a-gettin' closer," Holly sings -- but what's the "it" in question? The apocalypse? An answer to the question of Gabriel's sudden appearance on earth? A big old smooch between the demon Crowley (David Tennant) and the angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen). The answer turned out to be two of the three, but within the show's story, the...

Long ago in a time before the pandemic (2019) Amazon released a show based on Neil Gaiman’s book Good Omens. Intended to be a limited series, the show was a hit so they opted for even more. However, talking to stars David Tennant and Michael Sheen, multiple seasons were always in the cards. Despite Gaiman’s material taking up the first season, the writers plotted along much further. So while I had very limited time to be able to talk with the two gentlemen, they were a wealth of knowledge. Make sure you check out my conversation with Michael Sheen and David Tennant above. Note: this was recorded before the SAG/AFTRA strike.

This post contains spoilers for "Good Omens" season 2.
Season 2 of "Good Omens" is a total delight -- until it suddenly isn't. Now that the show's sophomore season has been on Prime Video long enough for fans of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett's 1990 novel to speed through it and dry their tears, it's worth talking about the promotion in the middle of the room. The season ends with a surprise about-face: A massive fight that puts a stop to the flourishing relationship between angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and demon Crowley (David Tennant). It comes after the bookshop-owning angel accepts a new gig in heaven, where he thinks he'll be able to change the system from the inside out. Crowley vehemently disagrees, and the two share a bittersweet kiss before parting ways in the season's shockingly depressing final moments.

Considering the four year gap between seasons 1 and 2 of "Good Omens," it's easy to see why some fans are frustrated by the season 2 finale. After two seasons of slowly building up to a romance between its two leads, "Chapter 6: Every Day" chooses to split them apart, seemingly for good. Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) decides to take up the fancy new job as Archangel, and Crowley (David Tennant) refuses to go with him and reclaim his old status as an angel. It's a dark end to a season that otherwise seemed to be building up to a happy finale.
Luckily, Neil Gaiman and the other writers involved already have plans for a third season, one that'll presumably bring our two favorite supernatural beings back together. "Season 3 is all planned and plotted and, if I get to make it, will take the story to a satisfying end. If I wasn't on strike I'd be writing it currently,...

“If you’re going to burn it down, you should have told us!” laughs Good Omens set decorator Bronwyn Franklin, explaining why the set for Aziraphale’s bookshop is, by her estimation, “five to 10 per cent” different this time around.
“We never realised it’d be a second series, because it was one book, one Good Omens series. And then everyone loved it so much that Amazon said we really want another.” The surprise series renewal meant redressing the bookshop set from scratch, after it was burned down by an errant candle at the end of season one, episode four. (Hence Aziraphale’s preference for electric candles in the second run.)
Is that particular set still standing by the end of season two? “It’s all still here,” confirms Franklin. “It doesn’t necessarily mean that we’ll ever make anything again,” she says as a caveat, but this time around at least,...

This article contains spoilers for "Good Omens" season 2.
There's a lot of overlap between the "Good Omens" and "Doctor Who" fanbases. After all, Crowley is played by David Tennant, the same guy who played (and is now playing again) the time-traveling alien Doctor. If that wasn't enough, "Good Omens" also co-stars Michael Sheen as Aziraphale, an actor who played the malevolent alien House in the "Doctor Who" episode "The Doctor's Wife." That episode was written by Neil Gaiman, co-creator and showrunner of "Good Omens." Director Douglas MacKinnon has also worked on both shows.
"Good Omens" season 2 takes the connections between the shows even further. Peter Davison, who played the fifth Doctor back in 1982, shows up here to play the biblical figure Job. Job's son, Ennon, is played by David Tennant's real-life son, Ty Tennant, who also happens to be Peter Davison's grandson. The fly Beelzebub gives Gabriel is described as "bigger on the inside,...

Finales carry expectations, and Good Omens Season 2 Episode 6 does that thing where it closes out some plotlines and leaves others twisting in the wind like so many tangled kite strings.
The solution to Gabriel's amnesia turns out to be a story of growing beyond the role he was created for. His relationship with Beelzebub humanizes them both for better and worse.
Meanwhile, Crowley and Aziraphale also reach a tipping point in their relationship. And we're left twisting.
As far as mysteries go, there weren't a lot of signposts that Gabriel's condition was the result of a forbidden love.
As far as forbidden loves go, the Supreme Archangel and the Lord of the Flies are about as May-December as you can get.
The only real clue turns out to be Aziraphale's Clue from Good Omens Season 2 Episode 2, the song Gabriel/Jim can't stop humming.

Events move alarmingly quickly on Good Omens Season 2 Episode 5 from odd to impossible to perilously bonkers.
For a show that has taken us to Scotland and Uz, with meandering detours through prehistory and Biblical times, introducing graverobbers, Nazis, and Job, it escalates a neighborhood theme party to an infernal siege with barely a moment to acknowledge the critical change.
Meanwhile, the miracle that hides Gabriel from those looking for him works so well that his surrender is rendered useless.
As an angel, Aziraphale has a number of superpowers, but his party-planning skills are nothing short of miraculous.
His willingness to part with his books -- the items he cherishes most in the world-- in the name of bringing Maggie and Nina together is like Crowley giving up his plants or Bentley.
Like the weather scheme Crowley uses to set Nina and Maggie up to kiss, Aziraphale's Jane Austen ball is...
