Collateral (2004)
10/10
Best Movie I've seen this year so far
7 August 2004
I went into this movie on opening day not knowing how it would turn out. I had read the good reviews Collateral was getting but good reviews don't necessarily mean that the movie will be good. However, I had to agree with the critics because this was one of the best movies of the year if not the best this year as of August 2004.

Having said that, the movie itself is about Tom Cruise as a hitman who has to kill several people during the night and in order to do that, he gets into a taxi cab drven by Jamie Fox, who at the beginning doesn't know what Cruise does but goes along after being given money for compensation. After the first stop, Fox "finds" out what Cruise does and wants to get away from him, but Fox is forced to drive Cruise all around Los Angeles but eventually gets enough confidence to turn on him only to figure out that Cruise's last victim on the list is the woman named Annie, played by Jada Pinkett Smith, Fox dropped off before he picked up Cruise. Fox has to find away to stop Cruise and rescue Jada before Cruise completes his job.

Well acted movie that is edgy and very dark. I'm not a big fan of Cruise but he was great as the villian, while Fox did a great job as being the cab driver who was in way over his head while driving Cruise around. The direction from Micheal Mann is also excellent. 4 out of 4 stars.
