The Office (2005–2013)
Hey Hey Everybody, Ice Cream Sandwiches!!!!
5 January 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Anybody who has been watching the show since it's first season knows what that tapeline means.

What can I say about this show? It is funny for a number of reasons. There is no studio audience, which means there is no pressure to come up with one liners. There is no lesson to be learned like at the end of an episode of ""Full House" or "Step by Step"--Man, I hate those shows. Also, the uncomfortable silences within each episode make it even funnier.

Of course, that format of comedy is not new. Such shows as RENO 911 and THE LARRY SANDERS SHOW used that format which made them equally as funny as THE OFFICE.

I haven't seen the original BBC Version, but if it's anything like NBC's version, it should probably be just as funny.

I think more and more people will be watching this show now that they are more familiar with Steve Carell after doing THE 40-YEAR-OLD VIRGIN. He plays Michael Scott, the Regional Manager of a fictional paper company in Scranton, Pennsylvania. How he got promoted to that position is a mystery. In fact, how he still has a job is a mystery. If you've seen the show, you would realize that if there are any bosses like him in real life, they probably wouldn't keep there jobs for very long, or worse, they'd end up in jail.

He is a jerk to his employees, but it appears that he doesn't realize that he is a jerk. That's what makes Steve Carell so funny in portraying Michael Scott. There are also a number of other characters on the show which are just as funny. Rainn Wilson's portrayal of Dwight Shrute (Assistant to the Regional Manager - Later episodes as Assistant Regional Manager)is the guy you love to hate. He is the ultimate kiss up and the funniest thing about it is that it doesn't really get him anywhere. Rounding up the cast are John Krasinski, Jenna Fisher, and B.J. Novak (co writer of THE OFFICE and formerly of MTV's PUNK'D). They are a great supporting and funny cast just by playing off of Steve Carell. There are other cast members in the show that are not featured in the opening credits.

All in all, the show is great, funny, and somewhat realistic. I hope that it last for many years to come.
