Adrien Brody, who features as playwright and one-time Marilyn Monroe spouse Arthur Miller in Andrew Dominik’s Blonde, says elements of the story adapted from Joyce Carol Oates’ 2000 bestselling fictionalized novel, are “terrifying” but hopefully lead to a feeling of empathy for the woman behind the cultural icon.
Blonde is a reimagined retelling of Monroe’s life that explores the split between her public and private selves. The Netflix movie was warmly greeted at its Venice Film Festival premiere but has polarized critics.

Brody, with whom I caught up on the Lido, said what Blonde portrays of what Monroe endured is “terrifying,” and called it “really brave storytelling. … I think it’s important in a lot of ways because although it is harsh to experience, sometimes that brings greater understanding, and I think there’s a lot of positivity in that.

"Let's roll." Paramount has unveiled an official trailer for an action thriller known as The Misfits, the latest movie from Finnish filmmaker Renny Harlin, who had an epic run in the 90s but hasn't made anything that exciting recently. After being recruited by a group of unconventional thieves, renowned criminal Richard Pace finds himself caught up in an elaborate gold heist that promises to have far-reaching implications on his life and the lives of countless others. Another of these updated takes on "Robin Hood", where corporate Hollywood studios try to tell a story about stealing from the rich and giving to the poor but, huh, for some strange reason they can never get this story right. I wonder why. The Misfits cast includes Pierce Brosnan, Jamie Chung, Rami Jaber, Hermione Corfield, Mike Angelo, Tim Roth, and Nick Cannon. I love me a good heist movie, but it ...

Few cineastes can count their last film among their greatest works. Fewer still finish a career, a life, with their best cinematic effort. As much as I admire such gems as Ophüls' carnivalesque Lola Montès, the amorous musings of Dreyer's Gertrud, the bittersweet self-reflections of Akerman's No Home Movie and Varda's Varda by Agnès, I wouldn't classify any of those pictures as their director's crown jewels. John Huston's a whole different matter.
The American filmmaker, whose career spanned six decades, finished his last picture in 1987. Faithfully adapted from a short story by James Joyce, The Dead may not be as influential as The Maltese Falcon, as exciting as The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, nor as tragic as The Misfits, but, as far as I'm concerned, it's Huston's most ravishing creation…...

“I’ll stand one day before the Queen, not kneel, mind you, but stand like an equal, and she’ll say ‘I’d like you to accept the Order of the Garter as a mark of my esteem, cousin,’” Sean Connery’s ex-British soldier Daniel Dravot proclaims in the 1975 period adventure film, The Man Who Would Be King. And with those words, and the epic death scene which followed, Connery completed the saga of a long-germinating work from one of Hollywood’s most celebrated directors. John Huston was Hollywood royalty. His father, Walter, was an acting icon, and his offspring have all gone on to distinguish themselves as part of the Huston Dynasty.
Connery was of course no stranger to acting royalty himself. Eventually knighted in 2000, he also got to play King Agamemnon in Terry Gilliam’s Time Bandits in 1981, King Richard the Lionheart in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves...

The late-career of Montgomery Clift was laden with tragedy, shaped by the doom that was happening both behind and in front of the camera. While nothing can compare to the cataclysm that was the shooting of Raintree County, The Misfits is another film of Clift that's haunted and haunting. The Angel of Death looms over the picture which unwittingly became the last screen appearances of Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe before their untimely ends. Clift would hold on for a few more years, surviving his co-stars.
However, as legend has it, the movie was showing on TV the night the actor died. His secretary, Lorenzo James, asked the actor if he wanted to watch it to which he answered: "Absolutely not!". Those were the last words he ever spoke to anyone, enshrining the movie in even more cursed memory. It's a pity these morbid curiosities define the legacy of The Misfits.

Terry Loane will direct Brosnan in “The Last Rifleman” as Artie Crawford, a veteran living in an assisted living home in Northern Ireland who on the 75th anniversary of D-Day escapes from his home and travels to the beaches of Normandy in France to pay his final respects.

Principal photography will begin this winter in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Pierce Brosnan is set to star in Youth, the feature film directorial debut from writer/director Brett Marty based on his 2016 short of the same name. Marty, Josh Izenberg and Amelia Whitcomb co-wrote the film adaptation, which is being produced by Jib Polhemus, Paul Schiff, and Martin Brennan.
The pic is set in a future not far from now, where “Renewal” has become the world’s hottest (and most expensive) commodity — a procedure to rewind your body’s biological clock back to its prime. Joel (Brosnan), an ad-tech engineer, is about to retire at age 70, after a lengthy career. Not wanting to lose him, his company pays for him and his wife Alice to Renew — a luxury promising a second chance. Alice emerges from the operation in her 20s, but for Joel, the procedure goes tragically wrong. Rather than make him younger, his aging begins accelerating rapidly, and his remaining years evaporate into mere weeks.

In 2007, the Ross brothers left a life in Hollywood (Bill was an editor of blockbuster trailers; Turner worked in set design) to make a movie in their hometown of Sydney, Ohio. They called it 45365, after the area’s zip code, and filled it with images of schools and churches; streets and neighbors. In 2009, the film won the Documentary Grand Jury prize at Sundance.
Three films, 11 years, and many awards later, the brothers return with Bloody Nose, Empty Pockets, a documentary/social experiment hybrid that takes place in a Las Vegas bar called the Roaring 20’s as its loyal patrons prepare to raise a final glass (or two) to its closing down. The rub is that the Roaring 20’s does not exist–at least in Las Vegas. Shot in New Orleans with a group of mostly non-professional actors, Bloody Nose feels less like a documentary and more like an immersive theater piece.

After a successful career in Hollywood making action films including “Die Hard 2” and “Cliffhanger,” director Renny Harlin has called Beijing his home for the past few years. His third Chinese-language movie, “Bodies at Rest,” is set as the opener of the Hong Kong Intl. Film Festival on Monday. Harlin says he has learned plenty.
What are audiences going to get from this film?
I love the single-location thriller genre. This one is set in a morgue on Christmas Eve, in which two lab technicians endure a night of hell with criminals who want them to hand over a bullet found in a body. The criminals killed a member of a prominent crime syndicate and need to remove the evidence. But, we learn that the chief pathologist is the last person on earth who is going to collaborate with criminals.
Obviously, “The Shining” is the reference point for films of this genre.

Chicago – Montgomery “Monty” Clift was an enigma as a “movie star” from the minute his image reflected from the silver screen. Dark and intense, he exhibited a inner ferocity that was unmatched from any other actor of his era, including Marlon Brando. Because of the enigma, his persona has often been mischaracterized, and he died young in his mid-forties. His nephew Robert Anderson Clift seeks to revitalize the authentic Monty in the new documentary “Making Montgomery Clift.”

We're hunting down all the Archie and pop culture Easter Eggs we can find in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina!
This Chilling Adventures of Sabrina articles contains nothing but spoilers. We have a spoiler-free review right here if you prefer.
Like Riverdale before it, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is a series steeped in popular culture. Creator/show-runner Roberto Aquirre-Sacasa has gone on record with his love of the horror genre several times, and a series like this one is a supernatural playground of allusions and references. More than just tipping its hat to fright flicks however, the series also has some surprising connections to the Archieverse at large...both on TV and in the printed page.
This guide is a monster, but it is not yet definitive. So if you catch a reference that I didn't, give me a holler on Twitter and I will update this article accordingly.

A product of the Actor’s Studio, where he studied under Lee Strasberg and Elia Kazan, Clift had a successful Broadway career before moving to Hollywood. He came to the attention of movie audiences in 1948 with a pair of releases: Howard Hawks‘ western “Red River” and Fred Zinnemann‘s WWII drama “The Search.

Glenn Danzig of The Misfits and Danzig fame is taking a page out of Rob Zombie's book and getting into the world of directing. Blabbermouth is reporting the singer signed a feature film deal with Cleopatra Entertainment, and will be in charge of film adaptations of his popular Verotik Comics.
Danzig is taking things further than directing, however, as he'll also be writing the adaptation and creating the score for the three film anthology series. Verotik has been running since 1994, so it's not like there won't be some people excited to see what Danzig can do. I don't know much about any of that admittedly, but I do know I used to rock out to "Mother," as a kid so I'm willing to give him a shot! Are you excited about this news?...

After being considered lost for more than half a century, a nude scene from Marilyn Monroe’s final film has been found. Charles Casillo learned that the footage has been saved while researching his forthcoming book “Marilyn Monroe: The Private Life of a Public Icon” and that the son of Frank Taylor, producer of “The Misfits,” has kept it in a locked cabinet since his father died in 1999.
Director John Huston — who won two Academy Awards and was nominated for eight more — is said to have considered the scene gratuitous and thus chosen not to include it in the final film, which co-stars Clark Gable and Montgomery Clift and was written by Monroe’s then-husband, Arthur Miller. “A lot of times, unused takes were destroyed. But Frank Taylor believed that it was so important and so ground-breaking that he saved it,” said Taylor’s son Curtice, per the Daily Mail.

A nude scene long believed lost featuring Marilyn Monroe in John Huston’s The Misfits has been re-discovered. The footage, cut from the film by Huston, was previously believed to have been destroyed.
Author Charles Casillo made the discovery during the research for his book, Marilyn Monroe: The Private Life of a Public Icon, out via St. Martin’s Press on Tuesday.
Casillo interviewed Curtice Taylor, son of Misfits producer Frank Taylor, and learned that he has kept the footage in a locked cabinet since his father’s death in 1999.
In a love scene with Clark Gable, Monroe dropped the covering bed-sheet and exposed her body. It would have been one of the first – if not the first – nude scenes by an American actress in a major production in the sound era of film if it had made it into the final version.

When Angels in America finishes its Broadway run this Sunday, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, who plays Belize, acidic nurse to Nathan Lane’s toxic Roy Cohn, beloved friend to Andrew Garfield’s unraveling Prior Walter, will have performed the two-part, nearly seven-hours-total play 247 times, give or take and counting both Broadway and London. A British actor, probably best known in his home country for roles in TV series The Misfits and Utopia, Stewart-Jarrett arrived in New York in February with the critically lauded production, having originated the role for Marianne Elliott’s staging at London’s National Theatre in April 2017.

By 1985 Hollywood had still only dabbled in movies about the ‘shame that cannot speak its name,’ and in every case the verdict for the transgressors was regret and misery, if not death. Donna Deitch’s brilliant drama achieves exactly what she wanted, to do make a movie about a lesbian relationship that doesn’t end in a tragedy.

When one conjures iconic memories from cinema history, they might be of your favorite shot or sequence, but my mind often travels to behind-the-scenes photos featuring director, cast, crew, and beyond.
These photographs often have a unifying connection: they come from Magnum Photos. Since 1947, the photographic cooperative — founded by such iconic names as Robert Capa amd Henri Cartier-Bresson — has been responsible for legendary images and now they deservedly are the subject of a documentary.
Directed by Sophie Bassaler, Cinema Through the Eye of Magnum, premiered at Telluride last month and will be debut on FilmStruck this Friday. Along the documentary, they will also be streaming a selection of short films each featuring a different photographer, as well as The Misfits and Voyage to Italy, both featured in the film.
We’re pleased to exclusively debut a clip from the documentary, along with a gallery of Magnum images, which can be seen below.

Rebecca Miller on Tony Kushner and Mike Nichols: "Then I started thinking, well, I want some interviews that are a little bit about the work and to try and get as deep, as far, inside the process as you can." Photo: Anne-Katrin Titze
"I can't think in abstract terms too much," Arthur Miller says while working on a piece of wood in Rebecca Miller's very personal, marvelously alive and warm and informative documentary that emerged from the discrepancy she sensed between the father she knew and the public persona.
Marilyn Monroe's great attraction, Arthur Miller recalls, was "her honesty," that she was "utterly without guile." Here the flame is her fame. Photos and clips from behind the scenes of The Misfits show an exhausted John Huston and we hear Clark Gable say the same lines to Marilyn that Arthur Miller had said to her in real life.

Midway through The Rider, Lakota cowboy Brady Blackburn (Brady Jandreau) takes a job at a local grocery store. Forbidden by his doctors from ever riding again and with few prospects near his home on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, he’s humiliated to find himself wearing a name tag and waving a barcode scanner. Brady, the actor, later told Chloé Zhao that filming those scenes was one of the hardest things he’d ever done. Like the character he plays, Jandreau had recently survived a near-fatal skull fracture during a rodeo, and the painful prospect of giving up his cowboy life was still fresh. The Rider is the second feature film Zhao has made at Pine Ridge, following Songs My Brothers Taught Me in 2015. “I wanted to make a movie about the cowboys I met there,” she told me, “but I didn’t have a story until Brady’s accident.
