Perks are one of the many elements of what makes up Bethesda’s popular video game title, Fallout 4. Despite being released nearly a decade ago, this game is still where a lot of gamers tend to head to as it was the last title that acted as a sequel to the storyline. Its long-lasting legacy with a tightly knit together community has also caused many theories of the game to surface over the years.
Fallout 4 came out back in 2015
One particular speculation that has been stuck around ever since the beginning is how there is possibly a whole underwater civilization present that players are supposed to know nothing about. While many claim this is just a wild hunch that gets tossed around every once in a while, some claim there are hints in-game hinting at the existence of such a city.

According to the combined predictions of Gold Derby users as of this writing, two closed shows are expected to receive nominations for Best Musical at this year’s Tony Awards. They are “Days of Wine and Roses,” which is in fifth place with 19/2 odds, and “Here Lies Love,” which is in second with 5/1 odds. Traditionally, however, closed shows tend to struggle getting Best Musical noms.
“Here Lies Love” opened way back in the summer of last year and was well received by critics. Yet it sadly never caught on commercially and ended up closing last November. Meanwhile, “Days of Wine and Roses” had already intended to be a limited run with its final performance planned for April 28 after opening in January to its own critical acclaim. Yet due to lackluster grosses, the run became even more limited, ending early on March 31.

David E. Diano, a veteran camera operator with credits including Tombstone, The Fast and the Furious, Wedding Crashers and Spider-Man 3, has died. He was 71.
Diano died Jan. 22 at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena of coronary issues after a battle with prostate cancer, his wife, still photographer Gemma Lamana, told The Hollywood Reporter.
Diano served as president of the Society of Camera Operators from 2003-04 before deciding not to run for a second term.
“To write that David was a one-of-a-kind friend to those of us who worked with him would be an understatement,” Soc historical chair Michael Frediani said in a statement. “His kindness, artistry and boyish smile endeared him to countess friends and fellow industry colleagues — and that is what set him apart from many,”
Diano shot 17 movies for cinematographer William Fraker, a six-time Oscar nominee, from 1983-2002. Those films included War Games (1983), Murphy’s Romance (1985), Baby Boom (1987), Memoirs of an Invisible Man...

Documentary fans have a lot to be excited about this month on HBO and Max. April begins with the premiere of The Synanon Fix, a docuseries that follows the rise and fall of the cult-like drug rehabilitation program Synanon. The documentary Brandy Hellville and the Cult of Fast Fashion takes a deep-dive into the controversial “one size fits most” clothing brand Brandy Mellville and the impact of fast fashion on the planet.
An American Bombing: The Road to April 19th looks at the surge of political violence and anti-government sentiment that led to the 1995 Oklahoma City Bombing, and the effects still felt nearly 30 years later. HBO is also returning with a second part to their popular docuseries The Jinx, with filmmakers continuing their investigation of Robert Durst.

Plot: Steve Martin is one of the most beloved and enigmatic figures in entertainment. “Steve! (martin) a documentary in 2 pieces” dives into his extraordinary story from two distinct points of view, with companion documentaries that feature never-before-seen footage and raw insights into Steve’s personal and professional trials and triumphs. “Then” chronicles Steve Martin’s early struggles and meteoric rise to revolutionize standup before walking away at 35. “Now” focuses on the present day, with Steve Martin in the golden years of his career, retracing the transformation that led to happiness in his art and personal life.
Review: It pains me to think that a generation is growing up that does not hold Steve Martin in the same regard as generations past. At 78 years old, Martin was the biggest comedian of all time for some, a movie star for others, and one of the old guys from Only Murders in the Building for the rest.

Del Palmer, the longtime bassist, collaborator, and partner of Kate Bush, has died. He was 71 years old.
News of Palmer’s passing came via a social media post shared by his niece, Debbii Louise Palmer, on behalf of his family. It has since been confirmed by outlets like the fan site Kate Bush News, which also reported that Palmer had “dealt with health issues” during his final years.
Born on November 3rd, 1952, in Southeast London, Palmer began performing at an early age, eventually crossing paths with an ascendant Bush during her late teenage years. In 1977, he joined her KT Bush Band, formally beginning a collaboration that would stretch on for four decades, with Palmer receiving credits on every Bush album released between 1978 and 2011.

Film and sound editor Garth Craven, who edited films including “Legally Blonde” and got his start in film editing with Sam Peckinpah’s “Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid,” died May 20 in Barcelona. He was 84.
His death was only recently announced by his daughter Willow.
Craven not only worked in the cutting room but also in sound departments and served as second unit director on several films. At the beginning of his career, Craven worked on Federico Fellini’s fantasy drama “Satyricon” (1969) in the sound editing department, which served as his introduction to filmmaking.
Back in England, he continued working on films in London. Resuming his work in the sound department, Craven received a BAFTA for the critically acclaimed romantic drama “The Go-Between” (1971) directed by Joseph Losey.
He eventually became a frequent collaborator and friend of Peckinpah. Craven worked as a sound consultant on “The Getaway,” a sound editor on “Straw Dogs,...

David Lynch does not like talking about his movies. He’d prefer the work speak for itself, thank you very much. But in bending over backwards to avoid discussing what something might “mean,” or deflecting questions with humor and/or cryptic pronunciations, the Blue Velvet filmmaker occasionally drops a breadcrumb hint about what makes him creatively tick. An audience member at a Q&a once asked Lynch whether there was a connection between The Wizard of Oz and the movie he’d just screened, Mullholland Drive. His reply: “There’s...

The Shanghai International Film Festival unveiled the competition selection for its 25th-anniversary edition Monday, featuring a lineup heavy on local Chinese titles, as well as substantial inclusion from Iran and Japan. Notably, though, festival organizers chose not to include a single film from the U.S. movie industry in their 2023 competition lineup.
The 2023 Shanghai festival, running June 9-18, will be the first version of the event that’s easily accessible to the global film industry since the Covid-19 pandemic began in early 2020. Last year, the festival was canceled in the wake of Shanghai’s monthlong Covid-19 lockdown and the government’s strict travel restrictions at the time. The festival was held the previous two years, but it became an almost entirely domestic Chinese affair, as flights in and out of China were hard to come by at the time (and all travelers had to endure lengthy and expensive hotel quarantines...

The 25th Shanghai International Film Festival, June 9 to 18, has unveiled the titles in contention for awards in its four main feature-length sections: main competition, Asian New Talent, Animation film and documentary. These are eligible for the festival’s prestigious Golden Goblet Awards, winners of which will be announced at the Shanghai Grand Theater on the evening of June 17.
While Siff remains the only mainland China festival to be accredited as a so-called A-list event by the International Federation of Film Producers (Fiapf), its selections are largely separate and distinct from those at other major international festivals.
While the lineup includes nine mainland Chinese titles, two from Hong Kong and five from Iran, there are, for instance, no films that hail from the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand or South Korea.
Feature Film Competition
“All Ears” Dir. Liu Jiayin (China)
“Dust To Dust” Dir. Jonathan Li (China)
“Good Autumn, Mommy” Dir.

Documentary director Alexandre O. Philippe has tackled many nerdy subjects over the course of his career. In "78/52," he hyper-focused on the shower scene in Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho." In "The People Vs. George Lucas," he examined the complicated relationship fandom had with George Lucas post-prequels and pre-Lucas selling his company to Disney. In "Leap of Faith," he dug into the psyche of director William Friedkin and how much of the filmmaker made its way into the DNA of "The Exorcist."
His latest film is focused on another titan of geekdom: the one and only William Shatner. "You Can Call Me Bill" premiered at SXSW just a few days before the beloved actor's 92nd birthday, and it isn't your typical talking-head career retrospective. You could easily do a whole feature length doc just on how Shatner's performance as Captain Kirk on "Star Trek" has influenced pop culture and storytelling,...

When “Mudbound” brought Mary J. Blige Oscar bids for acting and songwriting (“Mighty River”) in 2018, a trail was blazed and an annual tradition began. In 2019, Lady Gaga won for penning “Shallow” from “A Star Is Born” and was simultaneously included in the Best Actress lineup. Last year, Cynthia Erivo (“Harriet”) competed for both Best Actress and Best Original Song (“Stand Up”). The trend is set to continue this year now that Leslie Odom Jr. is expected to reap double bids for “One Night in Miami.” He would be the first man to achieve this double act and could be the first person to pull off both wins.
Since he made his Broadway debut in “Rent” at age 17, Odom’s singing voice has been an integral part of his acting career. In 2012, after over a decade of adding theatre and TV roles to his resume, he made his film debut in “Red Tails,...

Love Is Blind stars Lauren Speed and Cameron Hamilton are ready to tell their side of the story. After finding each other on Netflix's Love Is Blind, the newlyweds decided there's no better way to document their truly wild ride down the altar than to write a book. Leap of Faith, which is available for pre-order now and hits bookshelves June 15, details how Lauren and Cameron's relationship survived reality TV, overnight stardom and, of course, an unexpected quarantine. As Lauren described while unveiling the book's cover exclusively with E! News, "We thought that this would be the best way to do it as opposed to, you know, a million DMs." As...

Malcolm X, Sam Cooke, Jim Brown, and Muhammad Ali walk into a motel room. No really, this isn’t a put-on. It’s an event that actually happened (more or less) on the night that Ali won the heavyweight championship of the world in 1964, and right before he changed his name from Cassius Clay. Now what these four historic figures at the intersection of Black male celebrity and wider American pop culture said to each other that evening is unknown… but it makes the mind wander; it also makes for a hell of a good story in One Night in Miami.
The new film from director Regina King marks the Oscar and Emmy winning actor’s first foray into feature-length directing intended for the big screen—even as most audiences will only see One Night in Miami on Amazon when it premieres on the streaming service later this year—and...

After examining the iconic shower scene from Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho in 78/52 and looking back on the birth of a sci-fi horror classic in Memory: The Origins of Alien, documentary filmmaker Alexandre O. Philippe has now turned his attention to one of the most beloved (and notorious) horror films of all time: William Friedkin's The Exorcist (based on William Peter Blatty's novel of the same name).
In his new documentary Leap of Faith: William Friedkin on The Exorcist, Philippe sits down with Friedkin in a one-on-one style reminiscent of the Hitchcock/Truffaut conversations, taking us inside the mind of the brilliant filmmaker as he reflects on the fascinating, multifaceted making of his legendary movie that still sets the standard for bone-chilling cinematic horror nearly 50 years after its initial release.

Undoubtedly one of the greatest directors of all time, William Friedkin has had many triumphs throughout his career. He received a Best Director Oscar for the Best Picture-winning The French Connection, stirred up controversy with 1980’s Cruising, accomplished the rare feat of the perfect remake with Sorcerer, and in recent years, found a perfect match in adapting Tracy Letts plays for film. But the work of his that towers over all the rest is The Exorcist, the 1970s horror smash hit that still sends chills down the spines of viewers. In the new documentary Leap of Faith, Friedkin details how he created the film and how the themes of it still resonate to this day. The documentary is directed by Alexandre O. Philippe and will be exclusively streaming on Shudder next month, the perfect gift for film buffs this Halloween season. Ahead of the release, the first trailer has now arrived.

"They accept what we show." Shudder has released a trailer for the cinema making-of documentary titled Leap of Faith, telling the story of how William Friedkin made The Exorcist in 1973. The film is another one of these unique "lyrical and spiritual cinematic essays" from the Swiss docu filmmaker Alexandre O. Philippe, who has made docus about the shower scene in Psycho, the making of Alien, and the rise of the zombie genre. The film is "not just an in-depth musing on one of the most influential and widely acclaimed horror movies of all time, but also an enlightening and intimate portrait of one man's creative process." That sounds great to me. Passionately discussing his influences, and interrogating the obsessions he has returned to throughout his filmmaking career, William Friedkin makes for a riveting subject - reflective, insightful and often disarmingly candid. Even though there's not much shown in this trailer,...

A new-to-streaming documentary about the Exorcist director prompts a look through his fascinating back catalogue
For a director who hasn’t made a major film in nearly a decade, William Friedkin is undergoing something of a surprising revival. The 84-year-old American director’s up-and-down career has enjoyed a collective critical appraisal in recent years, while he has been the subject of multiple documentaries: the kind of film-maker-becoming-the-film treatment that few auteurs get once in their careers. One such, admittedly, he made himself. The Devil and Father Amorth (2017), on Netflix, is an indulgent curio that attempts to revive the mythos of Friedkin’s 1973 horror tale of satanic possession, The Exorcist, while Alexandre O Philippe’s still unreleased Leap of Faith takes a longer, more enlightening view on the same film.
