Shamus Culhane's The Trip is a worthy animated one from the Paramount cartoon studios
tavm31 August 2010
Just watched this Paramount Noveltoon on YouTube as linked from the Saturday Morning Blog. In this one, an office drudge takes some time off and goes on a cruise. He spends most of that cruise time playing shuffleboard by himself since whenever he asks anyone else to play with him, they always hit him on the head! Anyway, at one point, the puck that he plays with crashes someplace and ricochets from there to knock him overboard. He then swims to the nearest island...Directed by Shamus Culhane, written and animated by Howard Beckerman with designs by him and Gil Miret, and music by Famous/Paramount veteran Winston Sharples, The Trip is a fine animated short with not much colors but plenty of colorful atmosphere even with no voices or sound effects. In fact, whenever some action happens, words are printed, comic strip-style, to convey that action. Don't want to reveal anything else so I'll just say that I highly recommend The Trip.
