Police are being led into ambushes, surrounded and intimidated by up to 40 gang members in laneways, with stolen cars being used as lure. It's the dramatic showdown inside a suburban supermarket involving shoplifters in Melbourne. Two women unleash a foul-mouthed tirade on a female security guard at a checkout before storming the store and acting aggressively towards staff. They hurl items including bananas at staff members who attempt to calm the situation, but the women use a "divide and conquer" tactic where they create more chaos by dispersing throughout the store. Security guards are seeing this type of behaviour more frequently.

When Bec Larrigan stepped out onto Flinders Street just a few days before Christmas she had no idea she would end up spending the big day in a drug-induced brain fog in Melbourne's major trauma centre, The Alfred Hospital. It has become clear she is mentally and physically traumatized by the Flinders Street crash caused when driver Saeed Noori allegedly drove his car through a crowded intersection. Larrigan was one of 19 people initially injured during the 22 December 2017 crash, and is on the long road to recovery.

New Zealand-born Caleb Maraku showed no remorse after escaping a gaol sentence for an unprovoked attack which left his victim unconscious on the pavement in Surfers Paradise last year. The decision has caused outrage with thousands of people petitioning for him to be deported back to New Zealand.

Today, Mehajer is now spending his second night behind bars after a police investigation into a car crash last year, which occurred while Mehajer was on his way to court to face assault charges. Police believe the accident was staged. Mehajer will be charged with perverting the course of justice and conspiracy to cheat and defraud.

The family of a cerebral palsy sufferer will now sue a Melbourne hospital where he was the alleged victim of patient abuse. A hidden camera planted by his family at Caulfield Hospital uncovered the alleged assault - including being grabbed around the throat - by a male nurse.

Three men including a police officer died and over a dozen people were injured. To this day, survivors have flashbacks and painful memories, and families grieve over lost loved ones. Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton has reiterated his zero-tolerance stance on violent foreign criminals following his decision to deport Kiwi coward punch thug Caleb Maraku. Under Mr Dutton's direction, Maraku was arrested by Border Force officers at his Gold Coast home early Friday morning and is now due to be deported back to New Zealand. Maraku caused public outrage when he laughed and smiled at cameras while walking free from court last month, having avoided gaol time for a shocking assault.

For years Fatma Sleiman received more than $150,000 in welfare benefits she wasn't entitled to, and she's been living a lavish life with the help of that taxpayer money. Sleiman from Glenroy in Melbourne owns two properties, a large speed boat and luxury cars. The Department of Human Services claims that she wasn't entitled to receive the benefits because of undeclared income she was earning from self-employment and rental income from a property. They now want her to pay up.

Gypsy mothers have been accused of planting shards of broken glass in their food to get free meals. Restaurant owners in Brisbane claim a group of Irish Travellers and their unruly children have been scamming them by planting shards of glass in their food and then refusing to pay for their expensive meals and wine. Their modus operandi includes disrupting service by screaming and crying at staff near the end of their meals, and threatening legal action, until their bill is waived. Venues are losing hundreds of dollars to the fraud.

More business owners have come forward to claim they were targeted by a group of Irish Traveller women who allegedly use scams to get free meals from Brisbane area restaurants. The group, with children in tow, pretend to find glass in their food and demand the staff waive their bill. Now retailers claim the same women have been shoplifting their stores. Police have been urging more alleged victims to come forward as they track the group.

Australian Justine Damond-Ruszczyk was shot dead by the American police she'd just called for help, in circumstances that have baffled her family. Officer Mohamed Noor has since been charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter over the shooting death after turning himself in overnight in light of a warrant issued for his arrest. Noor allegedly shot Ms Damond-Ruszczyk, a 40-year-old life coach from Sydney's northern beaches, minutes after she called 911 to report a possible sexual assault in the alley behind her home.

Businesses on the Gold Coast were promised the games would boost the local economy, however they claim it is the worst downturn in trade they have experienced in five years, and have blamed GOLDOC chairman Peter Beattie for scaring away locals and tourists from the area. Today, justice was served to American actor and comedian Bill Cosby after he was found guilty of drugging and sexually assaulting a woman 14 years ago. Cosby, 80, could end up spending his final years in gaol after a jury unanimously concluded he sexually violated Temple University employee Andrea Constand at his suburban Philadelphia mansion in 2004. The criminal case arose following a barrage of allegations from more than 60 women who claimed the former TV star drugged and molested them over a span of five decades.

A father who was stabbed by an international student dressed in a full burqa in his own home has described how the knife sunk three centimetres into his neck as he frantically urged his young daughter to make a run for it. He now says his daughter is so traumatized by what she witnessed she thinks she can see blood on the walls and dreams her parents are dead. Momena Shoma, who arrived in Melbourne from Bangladesh in January 2018, has been charged with engaging in a terrorist act. Police believe Shoma is linked to Islamic State.

The Administrative Appeals Tribunal, which has infamously overturned numerous Department of Immigration decisions to deport foreign-born guests after being convicted of violent crimes, held its taxpayer-funded $600,000 biennial junket on the Sunshine Coast this week. But their arrival on Monday morning was ambushed by enraged family of murdered Melbourne woman Korinna Aylward. Aylward and her partner, Greg Tucker, were stabbed to death in 2013 by Turkish man Mustafa Kunduraci, who the Immigration department had twice attempted to ban from entering Australia. But Kunduraci was saved from deportation on both occasions by immigration tribunals leading up to the murders.

Woolworths will become the first big supermarket to ban the bag from their store network. Customers will pay 15 cents for a re-usable bag if they've not brought their own, or 99 cents for a foldable bag. There will also be fee increases for online shopping and home delivery. Customers are angry as a result, many seeing the controversial ban as a money-making scam.

For twenty years, murderer Kathy Keng Hwee Yeo has refused to tell police where the beheaded body of her ex-boyfriend Christopher Dorrian lies. In 1997, psychiatric nurse Yeo and an accomplice shot Dorrian three times before severing his head. The head was later discovered washed up inside a sports bag on the banks of the Cooks River at Tempe. Now Yeo has been released on parole despite never revealing the whereabouts of Dorrian's body, angering the victim's family.

Former refugee and immigration lawyer Amadu Bangura, who tried to claim $700,000 in compensation for a staged fender bender in Lakemba, has been found guilty of insurance fraud after a magistrate slammed his evidence as being "vague and evasive" and at times "just plain dishonest". Bangura had claimed his car was written off in the accident but police surveillance footage shows Bangura driving the same car afterwards with only a minor scratch.

He's been called "The Vegemite Pest". His real name is Ammar Mousali and he seems to be at war with his neighbours in the Gold Coast unit complex where he lives. His habit of smearing Vegemite on the lenses of security cameras in the unit block has earned him his nickname. Mousali has been accused of deliberately antagonizing other tenants by stalking and videoing them, willfully damaging an electricity power board, and vandalizing security cameras throughout the building. He has also been labelled a psychopath after assaulting the property manager.

It took young mother-of-three Ashlee Brown five days to die on a floor, and her devastated mother is desperate to find the truth. Siobhann Brown says her daughter Ashlee was vulnerable when she decided she wanted to convert to Islam for her marriage, without knowing much about the religion. Ashlee died in her marital home in Melbourne's north, and her husband has been convicted of negligent manslaughter. Mohamed Naddaf claims he found his wife in the garage of their home suffering multiple serious injuries but didn't call an ambulance.
