New graduate research reveals that post-school qualifications - including university degrees, TAFE certificates and diplomas - do not necessarily lead to dream jobs, and provide negligible protection against unemployment. What is worse many students who start these qualifications end up being burdened with a substantial debt. Recruitment experts say that the graduates who have the toughest time finding employment are those with generalist degrees such as Arts and Humanities.

Girls can do almost anything that boys have traditionally done at school, and the boys are now struggling. Experts believe there is now a serious problem with the education of boys, and the curriculum has swung too far in favour of girls. The differences between boys and girls are largest among the most disadvantaged children, particularly those of single mothers. There has also been a decline in the number of male teachers and tutors, and this has contributed to the lack of role models in school for boys.
