In one of Charles Addams' original Addams Family comic strips for the New Yorker, we see Gomez, the family patriarch, perched by a large window in his sepulchral home, looking out the window. His children and wife are standing near him. Outside the window, an apocalyptic storm is raging. A tree has been stripped of its leaves and a home across the street appears to be blowing over. "Just the kind of day that makes you feel good to be alive!" Gomez comments.
Barry Sonnenfeld's 1991 film version of "The Addams Family" captures that outsider spirit. This iteration of the Addams Family values the gloom that most people eschew, presenting Gomez (Raul Julia) and Morticia (Anjelica Houston) as horny, enthused monsters who you kind of fall in love with.
The plot of the movie is somewhat plain: a scheming a-hole finds someone who looks exactly like the long-lost Fester Addams...

Fairy tales are often far more sinister than their reputation gives them credit for, and this new trailer released for the upcoming Gretel & Hansel looks to be maintaining that tradition by diving directly into the darkness of the medieval Black Forest.
The story is one of the most famous of the assortment collected by academics Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, seeing a brother and sister get lost in the woods after their trail of breadcrumbs leading back home is eaten by birds. They stumble upon a building made of bread, cake and sugar – most often referred to as a gingerbread house – wherein lives a witch who plans to fatten them up and eat them.
This version comes courtesy of Osgood Perkins, director of the underrated and sinister I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House, and stars Sophia Lillis (It: Chapter One) as the eponymous lost girl and Alice Krige as the witch.

Ambling onto screens with a wiggle and a shake of its gingerbread bottom for this weekend only, the CBeebies Christmas Show: Hansel & Gretel is a gentle and festive outing for very little ones.
Bookended by a wander through the woods with the broad, recognisable smile and safe hands of Justin Fletcher, the majority of this feature takes place at a live recording of this year’s CBeebies panto filmed at Edinburgh’s Festival Theatre. With shots of the stage and audience to establish location and atmosphere before the Pov settles down to primarily watch from a few rows back, CBeebies’ take on Hansel & Gretel offers a nice (and ever-reliable way) way to introduce the art form to younger audiences.
With Mr Bloom conspicuous by his absence (sorry mums) the first friendly faces to greet young fans are Andy Day as Truffle and Maddie Moate as Willow, a pair of very enthusiastic trees.

Russian animation work, even during the Cold War, found its way to European TV screens, where characters were dubbed but fairy tale-inspired toons had deep appeal to non-Russian kids. These days, despite impressive digital wizardry and a multitude of new platforms, character and story are still the special sauce that make toons from the East succeed abroad, say producers.
Competition will be lively at Cannes for hot new titles with growing interest in new Russian animation work — just one indicator is Netflix’s buy of the series “Leo and Tig” and “Be-Be Bears” from Moscow-based Parovoz last fall as part of its strategy to beef up children’s programming. The two seasons of shorts, about animal adventurers, have done well with kids worldwide.
Buyers are also mindful of last year’s “Snow Queen: Fire & Ice” success. The wintry adventure from leading toon company Wizart broke records after its release in April last year.

"There's hell to pay."
The Hellraiser horror film franchise has played a big part in shaping the horrors that I live through in my nightmares. These films are insane and the visual aspect of them are horrific madness. Pinhead has become one of the most iconic horror monsters and he's back for another nightmarish film.
We have a new trailer today for the next chapter in the Hellraiser franchise, Hellraiser: Judgment. This is the tenth film in the franchise and it tells the story of three detectives "as they struggle to solve a horrifying murder, but instead find themselves thrust into the depths of Pinhead’s hellacious landscape."
The movie was written and directed by Gary J. Tunnicliffe (Hansel & Gretel) and it stars horror icon actress Heather Langenkamp (A Nightmare on Elm Street). The movie actually looks pretty good! It looks better than some of the previous sequels that we've seen.
