I loved this series.

Warning: Spoilers
*possible spoilers*

"Autumn in My Heart" or "Endless Love" - or whatever you wish to call this series - is a masterpiece. This is the most moving and influential Asian drama I have seen. Even after watching this for the second time, I still was emotionally drained and cried my eyes out. It tells the story of a heartbreaking, tragic, and doomed love.

The cast is beautiful, to say the least. The music is lovely. Everything about this series has a certain type of grace and beauty.

This drama has great strength. I was reeled into the story, into the life of a girl who found out that her family wasn't really her family and had to watch her loved ones leave her behind. I pitied her and cried for her even though she didn't pity herself. Her life doesn't get much better, but her true love does come back for her. You will see angst, injustice, and utter tragedy. Mixed in the sad air is a true love that you can only wish to find. The ending left me speechless and stayed with me for days. I can never forget the story of Eun-suh and Jun-suh.

However, if you are a critical person without much of a heart or you don't get caught up in fictitious stories, you probably will not like this series. You would only see the flaws. Save yourself the time. A note of warning to others - don't watch if you don't want to be depressed. But if you DO want to see love in all of its innocence and two people who love each other to the end, watch "Gaeul donghwa."

This melodrama has everything
phd_travel18 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Looking back at this shamelessly melodramatic tale, it's interesting to see how far Korean Drama is come since 2000. There is a lot here - a switched at birth thing, a double love triangle, then a tragic death or two.

The faults are glaring. Too much crying and too much calling their names. The soundtrack songs are repeated too many times each episode. A few hours could have been cut. Sometimes want to scream at the protagonists spit it out or hurry up. One good thing is seeing the three main stars in their early breakout roles. It's easy to see they have charisma that made them household names throughout Asia till today.

Still if you are in the mood for some overwrought melodrama this one is a classic.

Superb acting...special remarks to Moon Geun Young
ichwan_mil14 May 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I was never too much into soap operas/dramas, but I've found Autumn in My Heart/Autumn Tale a decent one. The storyline itself was quite simple: two babies were switched at the hospital they were born. And then the conflicts throughout the series were developed from here, into the complicated one. I have seen some viewer critics this drama for, 'unrealistic' 'too many crying' and 'too predictable'. Yes, maybe its storyline was little unrealistic, but I suppose there are many stories in real life that seemed unrealistic too. Besides, I believe there was no show that is pure realistic, they are for entertainment, if you were looking for something very realistic, then do not watch any film, look no other than events in your daily life...

The storyline followed the lifeline stages of the two main characters, Jun-suh and Eun-suh: their teenage and adult years, which played by different actors (adult Jun-suh and Eun-suh were played by Song Seun Hoon and Song Hye Kyo, while their teenage versions were played by Choi Woo Hyuk and Moon Geun Young respectively).

The storyline of teenage years was told in about one-fifth of the whole 16 episodes: in episode 1, 2, and half part of episode 3. Since it built the basis of understanding before advancing to later episodes, I think this stage could not be less important. Of course, I watched the entire episodes, but my favorite scenes were all from the teenage years episodes.

Yes, all actors throughout the series had played their roles flawlessly. And child actors, in the teenage years, are no exceptions. Especially, I want to highlight an actress played as the teenage Eun-suh, Moon-geun Young that is…

Moon Geun Young is now one of the most popular stars in Korea. She is known to be a multi-talented actress – could play virtually any given role with different types, from the stressful and fearful poor girl in the famous horror flick 'A Tale of Two Sisters' into a funny but bossy young wife in the romantic comedy 'My Little Bride'. Autumn in My Heart was shot when she was still 13 or 14. Even at that age, she was able to show her shining talent. She was not famous at that time, but certainly she was paving her path into glory. Her current nickname, 'Korean Little Sister' couldn't be wrong. My favorite scenes of this drama included: 1. when Eun-suh kissed the family cups at night she was acknowledged not the biological daughter of Yun family; 2. when she told her foster mother that she refused to go with her to the US in favor of returning to her biological mother; 3. when she quoted the infamous 'I want to be reborn as a tree' line by the railway track while bid farewell to his 'brother'; 4. while she helplessly stood while seeing the Yun family car leaving for the US in front of a tunnel (although I regretted why they at least not bid farewell to Eun-suh for the last time) – the last scene of the teenage years (excluding flashbacks, of course) Yes, I watched those scenes over and over….every time she cried I felt very touched. I didn't cry but I felt the emotion. Could not stand but felt pity for such a poor innocent girl..I could not even imagine if it were taken from a true story.. Honestly, Song Hye Kyo's success in portraying the life of adult Eun-suh might not be that good if not 'pioneered' by the character played by Moon Geun-Young.

Asides from my admiration to Moon Geun Young, in storyline side, though it was excellent, I did feel it somewhat flawed. First, what happened to Eun-suh seemed not fair. She was a kind and grateful girl (remember when she still try to be gratitude for having a bad lunch after being returned to her biological mother), but she tragically died of leukemia at the end of the story. Seemed she never got happiness she deserved until her very end. Meanwhile, her rival, the annoying and stone-hearted Shin-ae (who also played superbly by other actors) who had always been cruel to Eun-suh seemed to have a happy life even until the end of the story. If only the director had 'blessed' Eun-suh with better luck.. And the ending was rather abrupt. It ended with Yun-suh hit himself to an oncoming truck, in the same location that his 'sister' was hit years before. I really wished that there was more to come after the incident. Yet, many aspects left unexplained. What happened to Yun parents knowing that their son died too? Weren't they even more broken-hearted? And Shin-ae, she didn't get what she deserved for being malevolent to Eun-suh? Well, at last I conclude, may be it was up to us to continue the story in our very own versions…

Well, as my conclusion generally, this drama was entertaining, worth watching. It has successfully delivered its stories via the flawless acting of its actors. Won Bin, Song Hye Kyo, Song Seun Hon, and virtually all actors (including Moon Geun Young of course) 'merged' with their roles superbly. Though not perfect (well, what's perfect in this world anyway?), it was one of the best dramas I've ever seen. The music scores were also very suitable and beautifully mixed into the story. If you hate slow-paced and touching drama then stay away from this. You will only get bored and waste your time. But if you love touching stories, this is for you. It could demand your deepest emotion, and you might as well surrender it.

Like a beautiful painting or song
Filburt-325 February 2002
Like many love songs, Gaeul donghwa is trite and over dramatic. But if you can allow yourself to be vulnerable and accept the story, you will be treated to many emotional evenings. The series unfolds like a modern fairy tale (donghwa stands for fairy tale).

In contrast to American soap operas, Gaeul donghwa was planned as an 18-episode soap opera. Some of the plot twists are dramatic and unexpected, but all essential to the plot and serve to enrich the characters.

That said, the series could've been trimmed by a couple of episodes or so, as it is filled with countless flashbacks and several moments of "come on, not that again!"

Still, rest of the series is so powerful that I suspect even the most jaded and macho viewers will surrender their ego and bring their eyes to tears.

What is the message? I like to paraphrase my review of my all-time favorite film, Breaking the Waves. It paints each facet of love (e.g., mother-to-daughter, friendship, romance) with palette of honesty and beauty.

And what beauty.... The series is very beautifully shot, like the "yellow umbrella" scene where one of the lead characters sees the other character for the first time in many years. And acting is superb throughout, including the children.

Highly recommended!

The Best Korean Series Ever
blue4425 February 2005
This series is excellent. In Korea it is known as "A Tale Of Autumn" or "Autumn's Fairy Tale" but when this TV drama was broadcast in Taiwan, the title was changed to "Endless Love". This moving TV series describes love in its various manifestations: love for family, unconditional love, and loving endlessly and is guaranteed to bring tears to your eyes. The lead female character faces life's misfortunes with steadfastness and optimism, demonstrating her strong character and true inner beauty. It is equally loved by audiences in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Beijing & even in the Philippines. This phenomenal series is very in demand here in the Philippines, actually it is still in broadcast. Now, it has a 3rd run on Philippine Television. Never in my life i ever seen such series. All the actors did a great job, they are all acting wise and considered famous not only in S.Korea but also in many parts of Asia. I truly adore Song Hye Kyo because she is so beautiful and well-suited for the role. I will say this endlessly that this series is perfect. No other series can compare.

Love it
ednalyn9922 October 2003
Endless Love (A tale of Autumn/ Gaeul donghwa) is the first soap opera to elicit an emotional response from this reviewer. Soaps are the usual target for mockery due to the presence of bad acting, lame plots and even lamer dialogue. Endless Love, however, managed to overcome these weaknesses. It stands as one of the best soap operas I've ever seen.

It's the story of Joon Suh (Song Seung Hun) and Eun Suh (Song Hye Kyo), who for 14 years believed themselves to be blood-siblings. They share a close bond as shown in the scenes of their happy and idyllic childhood. Yet an accident when Eun Suh was only 14 revealed that she was actually switched at birth with another baby. Her real family is composed of a single mother and a rascal brother living in the throes of poverty. The daughter (Shinae) who lives with that poor family is Joon Suh's real blood sister. After some dramatic scenes, the two daughters are switched back to their real families. Joon Suh's family leaves for the States as a way to start over while Eun Suh stays behind with her poor mother and grows up terribly missing her brother. Eight years later, Joon Suh returns to Korea in search for Eun Suh. They meet again via JoonSuh's best friend, Tae Sukh, who also happens to be attracted to Eun Suh. The two former siblings are deliriously happy to be reunited, but complications take place as they realize that they are falling in love with each other. Joon Suh is already engaged to Yumei, while Eun Suh has just "accepted" Tae Sukh's declarations of "love". To make matters worse, their parents cannot accept a romantic relationship between them as they still see Eun Suh and Joon Suh as siblings. These complications drive the plot to an ending that will surely melt even the stoniest of hearts.

Despite its predictable storyline, it still succeeds in conveying sincere emotions, largely due to the chemistry of the two leads, Song Seung Hun and Song Hye Gyo.

Song Seung Hun in particular, was amazing in the role of the strong and honorable Joon-Suh (Johnny). It was a character that barely had any speaking lines yet Seung Hun hit every emotional note required for the scene. His expressive face (particularly his gorgeous eyes) clearly conveyed all of his character's conflicting emotions: his love for En Suh (jenny), his respect for his parents and his affection for his friends. Everything about his acting is restrained, yet he never comes off stiff or wooden. He projected strength and vulnerability without resorting to exagerrated theatrics common amongst young actors. It's definitely an amazing performance which sets him apart from his peers. There is no doubt in my mind that only Seung Hun, with his talent and maturity, could have played this challenging role. The other actors in the movie simply played their characters in a stereotypical manner that doesn't stand out, but doesn't disappoint either.

The story is also wonderful in that it is different from the usual American love story. It teaches us that lovers do not exist for themselves alone. The characters of Joon-Suh and En Suh love each other deeply, yet they also can't bear seeing everyone around them suffer. As such, they sacrifice their own happiness just to keep their families and friends satisfied. With such sacrifice, the audience cannot help but root for the two underdog lovers.

Top it off with beautiful cinematography and sentimental music and the audience is defintely set for an emotional experience with this series. Take my advice, this series is for keeps. It's bound to become an Asian classic. In fact, I think it already is.

Autumn Fairy Tale was simply fabulous...
mangodude19 January 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I truly do not understand the previous comment of the scenes between Joon-Suh and Eun-Suh as being 'slow.' The scenes between the two are very heartfelt and heartbreaking, as they reveal feelings and thoughts they would share with no one else, not even their respective partners. (I'm referring to their adult selves...) I saw the TV series with English subtitles.

I knew their relationship would be rather uncomfortable to fathom for some people seeing as they had a very strong and close bro/sis relationship for 14 years. But I guess given how much they love each other, how many personal thoughts and feelings they shared, seeing how that they are now nowhere near-blood related (Eun-suh was accidentally switched at birth), and were separated for 9 long years (after Joon-suh, his 'new-real' sister and family moved to the USA, and then subsequently came back), I guess they went for more.

I'm not saying their relationship is not 'weird'. All I'm saying that their adult relationship was portrayed in a very real, very believable, very understandable manner. Their one-on-one conversations are always very deeply emotional, and very truthful, never hiding their real feelings.

After Eun-suh was found to have cancer + dying, and with basically everyone suddenly agreeing to their relationship, their conversations were more and more emotional.

I admit, freely, that I cried a lot during their one on one scenes, as their love, affection, and passion for each other was beyond undeniable.

Yes, I'm a guy, and I cried. It really affected me how very honest, loving and open they are with each other.

The writing, producing, and acting were just simply fantastic. Crying realistically and believably is not an easy skill. All the people in this movie/TV show put most Hollywood actors/actresses to shame with their acting skills, including all the big names.

I know this is a rather disjointed comment, so bear with me, only 2 more to go.

One of the final things I like to mention and was quite evident, was that the happiness of all the characters always seem to require some emotional sacrifice on Eun-suh and Joon-suh's part, ESPECIALLY Eun-suh.

It seemed to me every time Eun-suh found happiness (adult years)...

(esp. when Joon-Suh and Eun-Suh ran away to a ranch for a few days and got engaged. Shin-ae, the new-sister, this one-dimensional, me me me-only bitch, told the family about J & E's relationship in one hell of a whine-fest) ...Eun-suh would always basically have to ARGUE and EXPLAIN painfully WHY she should be happy, whether it be to her biological mother or her old family. Her character basically, in the beginning, sacrificed her mental and emotional state to keep everyone happy. She never had ANY emotional outlet until adult Joon-suh came back into her life.

...Basically the one person least deserving of death and sacrifice, and one who sacrificed the most (Eun-Suh), got the shaft. I got rather angry watching how Eun-suh constantly sacrificed her well being to keep everyone happy and emotionally-balanced. It happens to be sometimes when watching shows I really like.

...The last three episodes where Eun-Suh has cancer and near death, her final days spent with Joon-suh were heart-wrenching and very powerful (to me anyways, and yes, I cried again. I'm a big softie). When Joon-suh finally said "I Love You" to Eun-Suh while on a beach, you can just feel her heart just warm-up and melt. Her face has been a pasty white since she got cancer.

...Oh, oh, oh, I almost completely forget. Bear with me and let me mention another powerful emotional scene, near the very end.

At this point, with Eun-suh degrading and near death, she had asked Joon-suh to take pictures of her while she was still looking okay, and not coughing up blood.

Joon-suh had always said her, he would follow her to death. When Eun-suh found some poison pills in Joon-suh's desk, she becomes deeply saddened and starts ripping up the pictures. Joon-suh walks in and wonders why she's shredding the pictures.

The scene the continues between them is extremely emotionally powerful (again, for me. I don't know about you. I almost always cry during that scene b/c I can understand their depth of love for each other).

She's desperately begging him to promise her to not kill himself, but to go on and protect his family. He strongly says 'NO!' and says consistently 'How can you ask me to live without you? How can you?" All I can say is the scene was very moving and powerful for me. The acting between the 2 leads was just outstanding. Extremely believable.

Some may see the scene as cheesy and derivative, but to me, it was anything but.

....Ok, my final note (I promise.) The music. Simply fabulous. They basically use 4 songs (2 melody, 2 with lyrics) to highlight certain critical happenings/scenes in the move/TV show. I thought the constant/consistent use would annoy me, but it didn't. All 4 pieces are distinctly different and fit perfectly with the scene being highlighted.

*********** FINAL MARK: 10+++++++ out of 10 ***********

Hope my pseudo review/comment/storytelling/opinion wasn't too jarring,

Managodude

P.S. I had originally started a much longer post. It was getting a bit long winded so erased it and was just going with the first paragraph and that would be that.

Then this comment started getting longer... longer.... longer.... as my train of though just kept rolling.

Hope you like the movie/TV show as much as I do. I doubt it, but I hope you do.

I left a lot of great scenes out of this opinion piece. o include all of them would turn this opinion piece into a rather long E-S-S-A-Y.

excellent film!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CORAZONDELEON7314 May 2003
GaolDong Hwa(Autumn Story) is a moving drama about love, family relationship and conflicting issues within a family. A tragic love story, moving and exceptionally crafted. The cinematography is very good and the acting prowess of the actors are at their best. Song Seung Hun, Song Hye Gyo, and Won Bin are very good!!!. The supporting casts are excellent. The musical score fits the very emotion of the film and its screenplay. This film can be compared to some of the best love story films ever made for television. Highly recommended and a must see love story!!!!!!!!!!

It could be better!
the_birs30 December 2011
I've just been watching this drama (which was my 1st Asian drama)few days ago and unfortunately I didn't understand how this drama has an average vote of 8/10? How was it possible? The principal actors are well acting yet it's not enough to make it be a "really good drama". The story could be better done. So many non sense and weak situations made this drama "hard to watch" until the end. I had some tears in some moment but it doesn't mean I'd cry from the beginning until the end (like the two principal actors did during the whole drama which was also non sense for me). Yes it was a sad drama, a touching one but I think the producer couldn't find the way to share and show the deep feelings of the two lovers.

This is why I vote 6/10 because more than 6/10 would be hard to give. Sorry.

too much crying and doesn't make sense
jimmy_liang12 March 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I watched the movie version for this drama, and I can't believe that I laughed when I watched it. I notice that lots of people who watched the movie all saying how touching the movie is, and how badly they cried when they watched it. If they knew that I actually laugh when I watch it, they would probably think that I am crazy. But sorry, I did laugh, because I just didn't buy the story: A brother and sister fell in love with each other huh?? I don't see how this is supposed to be romantic. Even though they aren't real brother and sister relationship, but it still sounds freaky and not making much sense. Well, I have to say that this is a pretty up-to-date Romeo and Juliet tragedy. However, the director of this movie didn't apply Shakespeare's idea successfully into the movie itself. The entire movie has way too much tear shattering craps. For example, the main character Jun-seo is in love with his "sister" but he can't spend time with her together because his girlfriend needs him and will commit suicide if he left her, when Jun-seo finally meets his "sister", both of them are crying and hugging, and Jun-seo says to his "sister" that he's sorry and that he loves her forever, blah blah…. And scenes like this repeats over and over again, and they were literally too much that just a little bit more of it would make the movie very boring. And yeah, the characters in the movie cry too much, too. They almost cry through out the entire movie, and some time I would wonder what the hell they are crying for… I am thinking of one perfect word to describe the movie – schmaltzy. This movie is not that bad over all. For those who really enjoy watching this movie and for those who are tying to watch it, I would rather recommend "Crying out love, in the center of the world" by Isao Yjkisada.

heart-breaking drama with great lines and scenery
keski6 January 2004
This drama by Suk-ho Yoon was a hit not only in Korea, but throughout Asia. It was the center of the Korean Wave(a cultural craze for Korean TV, music and movies in East Asia) attracting many tourists to Korea as well as Korean actors to Taiwan and other countries.

It's not uncommon to see attractive young heroines in tragic situations, and tangled love situations, but it's more than that. It's about family, strength, and love that just cannot be. The ending is somewhat abrupt, but up to that part, it's mostly good.

Hye-gyo Song's lines such as "I forgive your sins," became a great hit, and the theme music "romance de amor," a Spanish folkmusic that appeared in the movie "Jeux Interdits" breaks your heart whenever it comes out.

The scenery, which takes mainly in the Kang-Won province in the mountainous eastern part of Korea, is wonderful - a trait of Yoon's dramas.

As the first part of the three season-themed dramas, the first part "Gaeul dong hwa" is the best and most original. Personally, the child actors should be highly acclaimed for their acting.

Best TV Series I've Seen
film_fan198630 March 2023
This is the best TV series I've ever seen. Nobody does drama and emotion better than the Koreans, so if a series does surpass this one, I expect it too will come from Korea.

What makes this series special? Not just one thing...I think it's the synergy of all the elements. The actors and actresses, the characters they play, the multi-faceted storyline, the interactions of the characters and their turmoils...some self-inflicted, some not. The redemption of some characters, while at times heartening, at other times strike home that one shouldn't wait too long to redeem.

The story itself is heartbreaking, be warned. If such themes bother you, this is one to stay away from. It plays out a certain way...as does life.

When thinking on it, one thing keeps coming back to me...Destiny. Are some things just fated to be? How could the children be so close, despite the age difference? Why did both have the same feelings and emotions during the separation? Why such a complete commonality upon and after the reunion? Just coincidence?

Or was it meant to be from the start? The boy set it all in motion the day the girl was born. A room left empty, a toddler left unattended in a hallway. His unknowing (to himself)...and unknown (to anyone else)...actions in that one minute changed lives forever, and set in motion a bond that could never have developed without all those circumstances coming together exactly then. Destiny?

Regarding the criticisms of some...while I respect all perspectives, I am struck by some of the reasonings.

Some say there's over-acting and too much emotion. I disagree. This series attempts to put about 25 years of life for a lot of people into 16 hours. All while showing how they got to where they did...why they would react the way they reacted...the results and consequences of elaborate circumstances. Can this really be done with subtlety and subdued performances?

Imagine a traveler in the dark approaching the edge of a cliff. One person calmly says "It is of vital importance for you to stop immediately what you are doing, because if you don't there could be serious consequences." Another person loudly yells "STOP RIGHT NOW!!!" Which has the most impact?

A series such as this is meant to evoke certain reactions, very raw and visceral in some cases. People want this...it's why they watch TV shows and movies. If a person wants "real life"...why watch TV at all? Just look around, that's real life. Documentaries show real life. Reality shows are real life, albeit exaggerated. So while I appreciate and respect the perspectives, there's no way this type of series can achieve its intended purpose through understatement.

Finally, for those who have little or no experience with Asian cinema and television...try it. Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, China, the Philippines, Taiwan...they all approach a little differently from each other, and each have their strengths. American filmmakers could learn a WHOLE LOT from them. The US had glory days in cinema...long since gone. But you know what? It's perfectly OK and personally I care not at all, as Asia has picked up the slack.

An alternate view
neffneff26 May 2006
Mine appears to be a view that wildly differs from the majority about this drama. I've only seen 3 or 4 Korean TV series but I have seen at least 30 Japanese series. Of these, some have been terrific, most OK, and a few were terrible.

I would easily put "Autumn Story" at the very bottom of any ranking. I found it to be truly insipid and completely devoid of any real human emotion. At times I thought the writers must be from another planet, since none of the characters' actions followed anything resembling earth logic. No character took any action that made the slightest sense, all conflict was purely an artificial construct created by the writers. No human of moderate intelligence would ever behave as these characters did.

There was no way to emotionally connect with the problems faced by the characters since their problems were self-inflicted.

I missed them so much when the episode got over… Story telling is an art and scripting is another art… writing a script and making the audience follow the script and live with the characters and mind blowing art … this story has made a great effort in making their audience live the characters… I lived yoon Joon suh… choi eun suh... Han Tae-sukh... I loved the characters played by yumi… joon suh's mom and eun suh's mom... mind blowing... simply awesome... how do I explain... watch it... and u will understand

bad drama ever
lia0002724 October 2002
Warning: Spoilers
This is very boring and not make sense drama. The ending is very-very bad, I'm not touching even just for little. Her brother is a bad guy, whom don't have principal, and man with very many weakness (to bad, I think Song Seung Heun is not a bad actor). The story is not make sense at all, if there is a man who really care for you you will choose him better than choose a man who had viance but love you and love his fiance too (that is b****rd man).

I think South Korea should change plot summary like this, we are very boring with cry and cry. Can you give us story about strong woman like Japan or Taiwan. If you wanna cry then cry by your own. There already enough problems that make us sad don't give us crying story again. WE ARE BORING YOU KNOW!

Not that bad

I'm just going to write this just for replacement for the previous comment about this drama series, maybe the previous writer was just envy about the beauty of the leading actress. Well, overall, the storyline is good, the actors and actresses really fit their positions especially for first timers like Hye-gyo Song. The ending is beautifully written and very touching. I just hope many would watch this epic drama considering this is one of the best I've seen!

Won Bin is the reason to watch this piece of garbage...
HaniaLee29 April 2005
Are all Korean dramas like this? Melodramatic, predictable, horribly written and acted by the main characters? After watching "All About Eve", I decided not to prejudge all Korean dramas but "Autumn Fairy Tale" is plain stupid! Every scene (or nearly every scene) was shot too long, long enough to make you uninterested in the point of the scene by the time it's finished. The plot is overused among Korean dramas but the way a drama is shot and done can turn rubbish into a masterpiece. Sadly, "Autumn Fairy Tale" didn't do that. The acting was pretty good when you think about the parents and the kids but the two main characters, especially the girl, were just so horrible that it was funny. The girl doesn't fit the description of an actress, she's green and she isn't able to capture the attention of audiences. In other words, she doesn't have any presence. The BEST thing/person about "Autumn Fairy Tale" is Won Bin, whose character was made out to be less important than the two main characters. Not only is Won Bin amazingly handsome, his ability to BE the character he's playing is amazing. He not only acted better than the main character played by the other guy, he got more attention. Won Bin has screen presence to boot. When him and the girl is sharing a scene together, the girl seems wooden-like, a mere prop while Won Bin comes across so alive and passionate.

Cheesy fun, but have the remote nearby. . . .

. . .to fast-forward through the countless flashbacks and slow (if beautiful) establishing shots. Expect a lot of repetition in themes and even plot events. There's heavy foreshadowing, and the final two episodes still come to a fantastically melodramatic finish.

The basic premise concerns two girls switched at birth, one being from a rich household, the other from a struggling, poor one. They're in grade school before the truth is discovered. In Korea blood-ties are extremely important, so despite the pain each family experiences, the girls are restored to their "rightful" places. Years later, the older brother from the rich family searches for the sister he knew as a child-- and the drama ensues from there.

The cast is extraordinarily attractive, and the acting is-- all right. Won Bin apparently made quite a name for himself with his part as a jaded-player-with-a-heart-of-gold.

Autumn Fairy Tale is a great drama. Those that didn't fall in love with it, obviously doesn't know the elements of an excellent drama. Even though all of the acting wasn't so great, Song Hae Gyo's skills of acting are magnificent. The story seemed strange at first, but then as I watched the series, I fell in love with it. It's GREAT!!!

i just love the girl... that's all :-)

The plot is not really unique, stories like that is very common here... although i still commend it for its thorough simplicity and no-twist plots. The actresses are very much reserved. From the beginning till the end of the series, you wont see anything from them except their face and hands unlike those from Mexican telenovelas. I guess some of Korea's culture and traits are notably and surprisingly similar with us. But the most astonishing thing about the story is its super simple plot. I can't help thinking 'is it the first time Korean's made such love stories'. In this modern story tellings, most dramas would contain so many add ons to complicate things for a series... mostly leads to ruining the entire plot... well well...

but i still love the girl...
