"Crackers don't Matter" is the whackiest, the craziest, the goofiest..
A blind being named T'raltixx offers Moya a magic invisibility shield. Which allegedly works, despite Crichton believing that T'raltixx (the great Danny Adcock who was also Co-Kura Strappa) is about as reliable as a Ginsu Knife salesman. Actually I still have my mothers Ginsu knife and it still cuts through steel. Ha.
This is the one episode where the character John Crichton and his actor Ben Browder totally dominate The rest of the crew of Moya.
At first T'raltixx appears to be a harmless, wise being who simply wants to do a favor for Moya. But in order to do this, he must needs drag Moya past five pulsars which are very close together. Why are we uncomfortable with his offer?
That's when the fun starts, and everybody is affected by the pulsars. Especially Zhaan. She doesn't do much in this episode other than reach for the sunlight.
This episode, where Subvision provided their last Farscape score, has about the best music that Subvision ever created. After this, Guy Gross takes over and starts providing more standard television style scores- at first they were fairly common sounding, eventually he got the hang of it and started producing some great music of his own.
So this episode is actually the end of an era for Farscape, many changes occur after this point, changes with the direction of the story and with the direction of John Crichton... because this is the first time John witnesses "Harvey"- but of course had not been named Harvey yet. Although we don't know exactly why Scorpy is appearing to John at this point, from John's point of view, John is simply going crazy like the rest of Moya's crew- he thinks it is the pulsars.
It is in fact the differences between John Crichton and the rest of the crew, he was not raised in the uncharted territories or peacekeeper space, he was raised in a southern state, watching television, eating his grandmothers food, and eventually becoming an astronaut and scientist, and these are the qualities that help him prevail in this episode.
So his reaction to T'raltixx is a visceral, gut reaction, like when you meet that one person who just rubs you the wrong way and you don't know why? John could not put his finger on it at first.
But then the other members of the crew including Pilot start acting completely whack a doodle.
It is the way that John thinks which allows him to solve this riddle, that makes it unique, and funny, and crazy. And this is probably the first time since "DNA mad scientist" where he defeats "Namtar", that Crichton proves that he is not simply a brain deficient "Hoo Man".
