“The Daily Show with Trevor Noah” will add some fresh blood to its roster of correspondents, stand-up comedian Dulcé Sloan will join “The Best F#@king News Team.” Sloan was tapped by Noah, also the show’s Executive Producer, and will make her first appearance with an in studio desk piece. A fresh and unique voice in the world of stand-up comedy, Sloan has appeared on Comedy Central’s “@midnight with Chris Hardwicke,” TBS’ “Conan,” truTV’s “Comedy Knockout,” and made multiple appearances as a correspondent on E! News Daily.
As former correspondents like Stephen Colbert, Samantha Bee, and Jessica Williams continue to dominate late-night and rise in prominence, a correspondent slot on “The Daily Show” can be as significant to a young comedian’s career as joining the cast of “Saturday Night Live.” Noah’s “Daily Show” tenure has already helped former correspondent Jordan Klepper launch his own half hour on the network,...

Already regarded as a master of horror fiction, the author proved just as adept at epic fantasy, telling a story about an archetypal western hero named Roland, on a quest through a mystical desert on a ravaged parallel Earth, in pursuit of a...

Fine Bros Entertainment (Fbe) has answered the massive wave of Internet backlash it previously inspired. The media company run by brothers Benny and Rafi Fine has canceled a planned licensing program called React World, given up the trademarks for its signature React formats, and announced its intention to rescind ContentID claims, all in response to a huge controversy stirred up by Reddit’s /r/videos community.
The decision to cancel React World comes one week after it was announced and several days after it became a hot topic on Reddit and beyond. The Fine Bros’ detractors believed the new program, which would have allowed international creators to license Fbe’s reaction-based trademarks, marked an attempt to monopolize the reaction genre itself, even though such videos are protected under fair use.
As a result of the controversy, Fbe found its videos harried by dislikes and its subscriber count dropping. From within the YouTube community,...

As natural as it may seem for electronic music pioneers like Skinny Puppy's cEvin Key to compose music for horror movies, it's amazing that a project like this didn't come along much sooner: seven years ago, Key (aka Kevin Crompton) joined forces with two of his frequent collaborators – industrial music icon Ken “Hiwatt” Marshall and videogame composer Traz Damji – to form the instrumental unit Scaremeister, partnering with the Groove Addicts music library (today the Non-Stop Music/Warner Chappell library) to release a volume of 31 “mini-scores” suitable for horror features, trailers, TV shows and games. cEvin Key (and friend) in the studio Within a week of that first volume's release, Scaremeister had already licensed three of the tracks to major film studios and a video game developer. Since then, multiple cues from this ultra-creepy collection have made their way into trailers for Inglourious Basterds, My Bloody Valentine, Halloween 2 and many more,...

Back in 2010, Jon Watts and Christopher Ford put together a fake trailer for a horror movie called "Clown." They decided to make it seem that Eli Roth was involved by adding his name. This got the attention of Roth, who gave the two guys an opportunity to turn their fake trailer into a real movie. Today, we have a trailer (watch below) for the real movie they put together that Roth produced. The film stars Peter Stormare (Fargo) and Laura Allen (From Within) and has already premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last year. A release date has yet to be announced. Plot: A loving father dons a clown outfit, wig, bulbous nose, and pancake makeup to entertain at his son, Jack's, sixth birthday after the clown-for-hire is a no-show. Unable to take off the clown garb, dad's personality changes in horrific fashion. He and his family race to break...

(David Cronenberg: Evolution - From Within: The Films of David Cronenberg - Psychoplasmic Panic! Cronenberg and the Rise of Body Horror) The Toronto International Film Festival, a year round enterprise based in Toronto’s purpose built Tiff Bell Lightbox, has created its first touring exhibition and fittingly, it focuses on the work of local lad David Cronenberg. It opens on Hallowe’en, a season well suited to reflecting on Cronenberg’s artistic vision. His horrific mediations and images of body parts, evil insects, gynecological instruments and gore are pure shock. But beyond that, his images which are wholly uniquely and utterly transfixing have become entrenched in our national cultural consciousness. His closeup images of sex, death and mutation may have given rise...

The Cronenberg Project will run from November 1, 2013 to January 19, 2014 at Toronto’s Tiff Bell Lightbox and will allow visitors to experience the director’s filmography through a series of multi-platform exhibits.
Speaking at a press conference held at Tiff Bell Lightbox this morning, Tiff CEO and Director Piers Handling sat alongside Tiff Artistic Director Noah Cowan and Canadian filmmaker David Cronenberg to discuss their museum’s newest exhibition.
“Before we moved into our permanent home at Tiff Bell Lightbox, we knew that the first major touring exhibition we would curate from our own collection would be dedicated to David,” Handling said. “Let’s just say we’ve taken the creative and innovative mind of David Cronenberg and brought it together into one very cool space.”

The original "Hobbit" novel, written by J.R.R. Tolkien and published back in 1937, might have been a slender 310 pages, but that didn't keep filmmaker Peter Jackson from expanding it into a second trilogy of "Lord of the Rings"-ian proportions. Last year's "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" was just the beginning, and this Christmas the second movie in the new trilogy, "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug," will be unleashed worldwide. Today the first teaser poster was revealed, ahead of a trailer that is set to launch later this week.
The appropriately atmospheric artwork shows our heroic hobbit Bilbo (Martin Freeman) standing before what looks like the Lonely Mountain. From within a glowing doorway, smoke escapes, suggesting the titular Smaug, a ruthless dragon played in the film via motion-capture wizardry by Khan Benedict Cumberbatch. Spooky!

The Eli Roth-produced film Clown has started production in Ottowa, Canada. We first told you about Clown a couple months ago, when Dimension picked up the film for distribution at Tiff, along with Aftershock, an earthquake thriller.
Clown is based on a fan-made trailer written by Jon Watts and C.D. Ford, about a father who puts on a clown suit to save his son's birthday party when the hired clown doesn't show. It soon becomes apparent that the clown suit comes with a curse - one even worse than just being a clown. Watts will direct the feature, which has cast Andy Powers (Oz, The Taken) as the doomed dad; Laura Allen (The 4400, From Within) as his wife, and Peter Stormare (Fargo, The Big Lebowski, 2001 Maniacs) as a clown expert (I had no idea there was such a thing.)
Check out the original short below.

The official 50th anniversary of Dr. No's London premiere has come and gone, but there's still plenty of James Bond talk left in 2012. As we get closer to the release date we'll see more trailers, clips, stills and posters, and even today we have a brand new TV spot for you. This is, of course, a spy movie, so we can't take any piece of information for granted. Check out the video below. As much as I enjoy Daniel Craig's turn as Bond, I have to say that the element of the movie I'm most looking forward to...

According to Bloody Disgusting, Stephen Lang (Avatar, Conan the Barbarian, "Terra Nova"), Kelly Blatz (Prom Night, From Within), Brett Dier, Nick Nicotera (Bitten), Nick Nordella (Greenberg), and Michael Ormsby (The Brothers Solomon) have all been cast alongside the previously announced Gage Golightly and Brittany Curran.
Kirsten Helms penned the script that follows a group of teenagers who accidentally release an evil spirit that starts to possess them one by one.
Backmask begins shooting soon in Rhode Island.
Synopsis
During a sex, drugs, and rock-fueled party, six small-town teenagers find an old vintage record and decide to play it backwards in order to listen for any subliminal/satanic messages.

Chicago – Two of the best documentaries of 2010 were recently released on DVD and both are well-worth your time in the very near future as they serve as prime examples of the vitality of the form of non-fiction filmmaking. Both “A Film Unfinished” and the Oscar-winning “Inside Job” are riveting filmmaking, proof that subjects that one might consider dry can be turned into a devastating experience.
DVD Rating: 4.0/5.0
Just glancing at the descriptions of “A Film Unfinished” or “Inside Job,” a potential renter or buyer might think that they know all there is to know about their subjects or, worse, that they’re going to be lectured like they’re sitting in a classroom on a Saturday night. What more could we possibly learn about the Holocaust after decades of books and films on the subject? And how could a subject like the fall of the economy possibly be dramatically interesting?...

From Within has a pretty standard premise: small town with a dark secret unjustly murders a woman for witchcraft, witch takes revenge, townsfolk fall apart as their dark secret is unveiled and foolish teenagers pay the price. From Within plays with preconceived notions of who is wrong and right in the debate over fundamentalism by sprinkling forthright characters with dark secrets…and dark characters with dark secrets too. Nobody's innocent. Not Aidan (Thomas Dekker, Mr. John Connor himself) the goth pretty boy whose brother Sean (Shiloh Fernandez) committed...

Buried (opening this Friday in limited release and going wide October 8) is a modern-day thriller in a Hitchcockian vein, where American contractor Paul Conroy is buried in a coffin somewhere in Iraq. From within the confines of the box he has to piece together why he's buried, who buried him, and how he can get himself dug up. With only a cell phone and a few other critical objects he fights for his survival within the unfolding universe of danger both inside and outside the box. The film takes place entirely within the coffin where actor Ryan Reynolds has to sustain the story all on his own, with no cutaways or fancy editing to fall back on. It is a thrilling concept executed with great aplomb by director Rodrigo Cortés, who piles on the suspense layer after layer until it is...

"There was a pole at the bash, and Demi thought it would be fun to show everyone she still has what it takes," a partygoer recalled at first. "Demi even spun around the pole upside down. It was incredible." The source then said that the mother of three "encouraged Rumer to join her".
"Everyone was cheering, and Leo gave Ashton a high-five," the eyewitness went on to share what happened after Rumer gave it a whirl in front of stepfather Ashton Kutcher and stars like Jennifer Aniston and Leonardo DiCaprio among others. "Ashton put his arms around both Demi and Rumer and...

Neighbours actress Janet Andrewartha has responded to claims that the soap is becoming too teen-centred. Some fans of the long-running show have accused producers of neglecting Ramsay Street's older residents following a recent run of plotlines focusing on the teen gang. However, Andrewartha - who plays Lyn Scully on the programme - confirmed that she expects the storylines to balance out eventually because the drama's team likes to give all characters a fair share of the spotlight. Speaking to Holy Soap, she explained: "From within it, it's difficult for me to see what the balance is. (more)...

Part 1 of Fangoria's Exclusive look at the making of A Nightmare On Elm Street...
Security is very much in place on the set of the new Nightmare On Elm Street, as the filmmakers attempt to keep the 2010 Freddy Krueger under wraps. Literally. When Jackie Earle Haley arrives on the set of the film (set for New Line release April 30), it is in a darkened van that pulls up outside of Powell’s Book Store in Chicago. Billowing black robes and umbrellas suddenly appear, wielded by production assistants, shielding the actor from any unauthorized eyeballs as he makes his way through the midday sunlight from the van into the bookstore.
Inside, safe from curious onlookers, the wraps come off. Haley is in full makeup and costume. Freddy lives again.
Much in the spirit of the recent reduxes of Halloween, Friday The 13th and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, this Nightmare On Elm...

“From Within” is the first film from Phedon Papamichael as a director for nearly 15 years, following his forgettable early 1990s thrillers “Dark Side of Genius” and “Sketch Artist”. The time since has certainly been well spent, with Papamichael honing his craft as one of the top cinematographers in the business, having worked on the likes of “Sideways”, “Walk the Line”, “W” and “3:10 to Yuma” as director of photography. Perhaps having learned his lessons, he has here returned behind the camera in a different way with a slice of Bible belt horror as suicides and ghostly visions torment a small Christian community in the American south. Interestingly enough, despite the setting, the film draws its influences quite obviously from the recent wave of modern Asian ghost chillers, perhaps unsurprisingly given that writer Brad Keene was also recently responsible for remake non-sequel “The Grudge 3”. The film begins with a young goth teen eating his gun,...

Thomas Dekker from the Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles goes from fighting cyborgs from the future to battling evil curses in director Phedon Papamichael’s horror movie “From Within”. The film will be released on DVD in the UK from E1 Entertainment on 24th August 2009. It’s already available in the States through the After Dark Horrorfest label. Written by Brad Keene (The Grudge 3) and directed by Phedon Papamichael (better known as the Director of Photography on numerous Hollywood hits including Oliver Stone’s W., 3:10 To Yuma, Walk The Line and Sideways), the gripping supernatural shocker, From Within, stars Thomas Dekker (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles; Laid To Rest), Elizabeth Rice (Mad Men), Adam Goldberg (Zodiac; Two Days In Paris) and Laura Allen (Dirt; The 4400) in a darkly disturbing tale guaranteed to put the frighteners on fans of recent horror blockbusters such as the Final Destination trilogy,...

First-time feature filmmaker Joshua Grannell sent along the second teaser poster for his fright feature All About Evil (the first can be seen here). This piece of art, which you can see below, features sisters/actresses Jade and Nikita Ramsey, who play Vera and Veda, described by Grannell as “killer twins who were institutionalized earlier in life after murdering their family at 7 years of age. They are silent but deadly and were born knowing all about evil.”
The film tells the story of an introverted librarian (played by Natasha Lyonne) who inherits her late father’s decomposing movie house. In order to get business moving, she churns out a series of gory shorts, in which the gore and murders are all too real. The film co-stars Thomas Dekker (of From Within and the Nightmare On Elm Street remake, among others), Cassandra Peterson a.k.a. Elvira, Deadgirl’s Noah Segan...
