Danish helmer Janus Metz’s next feature project after Amazon Studios’ “All the Old Knives,” starring Laurence Fischburne and Chris Pine, will be the Danish drama “Bastard Love,” produced by Jesper Morthorst and Lise Orheim Stender for Motor.
“Bastard Love” will be Metz’s sophomore Scandinavian feature film after the multi-awarded ”Borg vs. McEnroe.” The project is co-penned by Metz and Danish author Kamilla Hega Holst from her acclaimed novel “På Træk,” winner of the 2015 Blixen Literary Award.
The intense psychological drama centers on a woman in her late thirties who leaves her failed marriage, ex-husband and two kids, and ends up in Pattaya, Thailand, where her retired grandfather is living with a Thai woman. There, she starts a relationship with a trans prostitute and throws herself into the dark underbelly of the city, where anything is possible, including redefining herself.

By all accounts, the upcoming series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds intends to be a return to the first principles of the Star Trek franchise: Hope, optimism, and a sense of collective possibility. From its supposedly more episodic narrative style and sunnier overall outlook to the servant-hearted captain at its helm, these particular voyages of the starship U.S.S. Enterprise will feel quite a bit different than their recent small-screen predecessors.
While shows like Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard have pushed the franchise forward with darker themes that wrestle with the mental and emotional cost of a life spent serving Starfleet, Strange New Worlds sounds as though it will be like snuggling into a familiar blanket. Full of characters we know and a mission we have all already fully bought into, there’s every reason to believe this will be exactly the kind of hopeful science fiction...

This Star Trek: Picard article contains spoilers for Season 1, and spoilers for Stranger Things Season 2.
When Stranger Things Season 2 hit Netflix in 2017, I learned to hate the binge-model. Before I could catch my breath, I was already aware that it would take the entire season for Eleven to reunite with the boys, and I felt heartbroken. I didn’t mind the spoilers, I was just more frustrated that there wasn’t time to process all the twists and turns. From that point on (and maybe before) I rebelled, sometimes loudly, against the Netflix binge-model. For the most part, my cries for a more traditional release schedule were somehow heard. I mean, you can’t imagine either season of The Mandalorian dropping all at once. Similarly, Star Trek: Discovery certainty benefits from the weekly episode drop, giving fans plenty to talk about and think about until the next week.

This Star Trek: Picard article contains some spoilers for Season 1.
As Star Trek: Lower Decks finally debuts internationally on Amazon Prime, Star Trek: Picard Season 1 arrives on DVD and Blu-ray for the first time in the U.K. Although the Blu-ray snuck in a U.S. release back in October, it’s safe to say that Trekkies may have been pretty distracted by world-events (and Discovery Season 3!) at the time, and may not have delved-into all the extra Picard goodies! So, if you’re a U.S. reader and you missed the news about the Picard deleted scenes the first time around, or if you’re in the U.K. and you’re just now getting your hands on the Picard Season 1 Blu-ray, here’s what to know about the various deleted scenes.

This Star Trek: Discovery feature contains spoilers for Season 3.
Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 was surprising in many ways. The latest season literally went where no installment of the Star Trek franchise had gone before, flying into an unknown time period that exists so far outside established canon that the series was basically free to do whatever it wanted. And, for the most part, it did.
Break up the Federation as we once understood it? Check. Show us a broken Starfleet that was essentially in hiding, hanging on to a dream of past glory? Also, check. Confirm the eventual reunification of the Vulcans and Romulans? Spock’s dream was achieved, folks. In Discovery Season 3, there are new planets, new relationships, and new rules—all set in a new future that often feels as alien to us as viewers as it does to the characters that have been catapulted there.

Actor Rana Daggubati says working on the documentary, Mission Frontline, has given him a perspective on what goes into guarding our frontiers. The upcoming documentary highlights the life of jawans of the Border Security Force.
"India's Border Security Force - or the country's first line of defense has no holidays, no breaks and no breathers. If it isn't for those brave-hearts always on their toes, our nation stands at risk. I feel grateful to have been able to meet them, live with them and train with them," Rana said.
"As a civilian and countryman, this experience gave me perspective on what goes into guarding our frontiers, 24/7. These Jawans are our lifeline, our guarantee to sovereignty, and they're the true heroes," the actor added.
"Going by what I experienced in Jaisalmer, Mission Frontline is a tribute to those Jawans' grit and spirit, with the intention to drive home some inspiration and gratitude for our defense forces,...

“The Conners” returned from its midseason hiatus on Wednesday with special guest star Candice Bergen and a huge surprise for Ben.

This Star Trek article contains spoilers for the ending of Discovery Season 3.
Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 may have taken place in a whole new future for our characters and for us, but it wasn’t afraid to call back to franchise history. One of the most delightful ways we saw this happen in Season 3 was in the discussion of the all important Star Trek captain catchphrase. In “Sanctuary,” Captain Saru and Tilly surreptitiously discuss “the other matter” of figuring out what he should say whenever it’s time to seem like a cool and in control Starfleet captain. This results in Saru hilariously trying to re-appropriate Captain Pike’s “Hit it,” followed by a fairly lukewarm reception of “Execute!”
The subject comes up again in the Discovery Season 3 finale when Michael Burnham takes the captain chair. Captain Burnham doesn’t seem to have the same level of existential crisis...

This Star Trek: Discovery article contains major spoilers for the Season 3 finale.
Starfleet doesn’t always seek out new life and new civilizations; sometimes, it accidentally creates it. Fans of Star Trek: The Next Generation can easily quote from various Picard monologues in the classic episode “The Measure of a Man,” but what about the Voyager episode “Author, Author?” Just like Data had to prove his sentience in Tng, the holographic Doctor fought for his rights to express himself when he released his holographic pseudo-memoir, Photons Be Free! And, now, with a last-minute twist on Star Trek: Discovery, it appears that the liberation of sentient holograms could become a big deal again. Here’s why one twist in the Discovery finale, “That Hope is You, Part 2,” has big implications for Season 4, and the rest of Trek canon, too.

Would you believe that the finale of Star Trek: Discovery Season references everything from Star Trek: Voyager, to the Tos episode “The Doomsday Machine?” Throughout the entire thrilling Disco season, 3 finale — “That Hope Is You Part 2,” the series managed to deliver yet another love-letter to Trekkies everywhere. This episode may not have been as overtly nostalgic as “Unification III,” or any given episode of Lower Decks, but it still managed to deliver on a slew of Easter eggs and callbacks; some obvious, and some obscure.
From Burnham’s Kirk-like boasts, to a weapon used by the Emerald Chain that references Tos, to hearing the word “Voyager” several times, here are all the Easter eggs and references in Star Trek: Discovery Season 3, Episode 13, “That Hope Is You Part 2.”

Remember that time when Admiral James T. Kirk pretended to be a socialist so he didn’t have to pay the bill on a pizza date? In Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Dr. Gillian Taylor (Catherine Hicks) rolls her eyes as Kirk is taken-aback about having to pay for the pizza and one round of Michelob beers. Gillian says, “Don’t tell me that they don’t have money in the 23rd Century.” Kirk replies faux-innocently, “Well, we don’t!”
Even by that point, Trekkies knew that Kirk was playing dumb. This is the same Kirk who successfully staged a hostile takeover of a gangster planet in “A Piece of the Action,” and was more than a little bit familiar with the belly-dancer cafe scene on the planet Argelius II in “Wolf in the Fold.

Well over a decade and a half into Ghost Adventures, you’d think Zak Bagans and crew would be running out of terrifying places to keep us up at night with, but they’ve served up one of their best specials just a couple of days into the new year with Ghost Adventures: Cecil Hotel. Sometimes inspiration comes from the most unexpected places.
Two years ago, AMC Networks executives were impressed with the performance of the first season of a low-profile genre series co-produced in the U.K. with Comcast’s Sky that premiered on AMC’s arthouse-y streaming service Sundance Now in January 2019. “A Discovery of Witches” has become the little engine that could for the streaming service that has been around in one form or another since 2014.
Last year, when the coronavirus outbreak up-ended the entertainment business landscape, the performance of Season 1 of “Discovery” greatly influenced the thinking of AMC Networks CEO Josh Sapan and chief operation officer Ed Carroll on how to respond to sudden change in business conditions.
“It’s amazing what a difference a year makes,” Carroll told Variety. “After the year that we’ve had, we’ve decided to heavy-up on our investment in SVOD.”

This Star Trek: Discovery article contains spoilers.
After giving us the Guardian of Forever in episode 10, it was going to be hard for Star Trek: Discovery to try and top old-school Trekkie nostalgia. Luckily, the final few episodes of Discovery Season 3 aren’t really trying for over-the-top callbacks. Like the episode “Su’Kal,” episode 12 of Season 3 — “There Is a Tide..” — is fairly light on obvious Easter eggs and shout-outs. That said, some of the more subtle Easter eggs connect to much bigger aspects of canon. And, from a certain point of view, aspects of “There Is a Tide…” scan like a Disco remake of a very fun Tng episode!

As the Discovery jumps in near Federation HQ, Commander Willa (Vanessa Jackson) tells Admiral Vance (Oded Fehr) that the “baryonic residue” of both Disco and Osyraa’s ship match that of the Verubin Nebula. “Baryonic residue” refers to “the...

This Star Trek: Discovery article contains spoilers for Season 3, Episode 11.
Of all the episodes in Discovery Season 3, the episode “Su’Kal,” easily had the fewest overt callbacks to the nostalgic past of Trekkie lore. Then again, after you bust-out the Mirror Universe and a reference to the most famous episode in Star Trek history, it’s hard to top that with even deeper cuts. That said, there were some surprising connections to The Wrath of Khan, the history of Starfleet, and even a little wave to Soji’s favorite way of getting around the galaxy. Here’s all the Easter eggs and references we caught in Star Trek: Discovery Season 3, Episode 11, “Su’Kal.”
Radiation poisoning- that’s what killed Spock!
The ticking clock in this episode is 100 percent connected to the idea that prolonged radiation exposure will kill Saru, Burnham and Culber. This may seem like a fairly generic sci-fi plot device,...

Star Trek is in the middle of a new golden age. The third season of Discovery is the best yet, we’ll soon see the return of Captain Janeway in Prodigy and rumors continue to build about the second run of Picard.
Paramount is looking to capitalize on this popularity with upcoming show Strange New Worlds and some new movie projects, and one interesting bit of information currently doing the rounds (courtesy of leaker Daniel Richtman) is that the studio is searching for someone to play a younger Jean-Luc Picard across various upcoming projects – both film and television. Which makes sense.
After all, due to the success of Picard, there’s been a burst of interest in the character. Much of his history in Starfleet has been extensively laid out in The Next Generation flashback episodes and books, but there are still big parts of his life left to explore.

As the season finale looms on the horizon Star Trek: Discovery attempts to begin pulling together its disparate Season 3 plot threads into something like a cohesive story. “Su’Kal” brings the villainous Osyraa and her Emerald Chain back into the picture, investigates the mysterious Kelpien ship that sent the distress call a few episodes back, and finally gives us an answer to what likely caused the Burn in the first place.
If this all feels a bit crowded and overstuffed, that’s because the hour tries to do too much, cramming in a ton of primary exposition alongside its more action-oriented B plot. Plus, if you had “the Burn was somehow triggered by a radioactive Kelpien child who lives in the holodeck version of Plato’s cave” on your Discovery Season 3 bingo card, well – you’re a smarter viewer than I am.

Losing a crew member is always hard, but Star Trek's significant result: Discovery Season 3 Episode 10 was largely expected since the news broke back in January of 2019 that Michelle Yeoh would be getting her own series.
However, how they would arrive that her departure was unknown, and this two-parter teased many Terran Universe Fans with the possibility of a Lorca return among the infinite number of potential Mirror Universe implications for our Prime Universe heroes.
But, although Qarl would have us think differently, I still feel that Georgiou's three-month sojourn was a pocket dimension for her weighing rather than actual time travel as the ramifications of that make my brain hurt.
Specifically, it would mean that Georgiou dies before Lorca brings Discovery over on Star Trek: Discovery Season 1 Episode 9, and the cascade effect of Georgiou never joining the crew are unthinkable, really.
Wait, let's go with alternate, branching timelines.

So, How Was Your 2020 is a series in which our favorite entertainers answer our questionnaire about the music, culture and memorable moments that shaped their year. We’ll be rolling these pieces out throughout December.
Christine and the Queens captured the spirit of 2020 shortly before lockdowns went into effect with “People, I’ve Been Sad,” a moving synth-pop ode to loneliness and subsequently one of the best songs of the year. Singer Chris (whose real name is Hélöise Letissier) crooned the track, which appears on her La Vita Nuova EP.

One of the pleasant surprises of Star Trek: Discovery‘s third year has been the addition of David Cronenberg as a supporting character. The filmmaker plays Federation agent Kovich, who shares some of the more disturbing realities of life in the 32nd century with the time-displaced Discovery crew. And according to an interview with the director in Variety, he’ll be turning up again in the remaining three episodes of season 3, and again in the already-in-production fourth run of the CBS All Access hit.
Kovich was most recently seen showing an interest in the Mirror Universe and Michelle Yeoh’s Emperor Georgiou, and helps set up a seeming return to her own time. When interviewed, Cronenberg discussed how he sees the character, commenting as so:
“He is an interrogator who’s also kind of an academic historian. He plays his cards pretty close to his vest, as does the Emperor.

Peter Langenberg, the newly appointed COO of Banijay following the Endemol Shine takeover, will be ramping up the company’s content strategy in key territories, notably in Benelux, Germany and India.
In Benelux, where Banijay just bowed the new label SimpleZodiak, a merger of Simple Media and Zodiac Nederland, the company is developing a packed slate of shows under the new leadership of Peter Lubbers, who was tapped as CEO of Banijay Benelux, the new umbrella spanning the region and its production activities stemming from nine labels.
The Benelux slate includes the gameshow “The Road to a Million”; immersive reality show “Next E-Talent,” produced for the streaming service Videoland; “Doodstil,” a drama mini-series that’s a spin-off of the hit Dutch thriller “Penoza: The Final Chapter”; web series “Hunted VIP’s”; and the documentary series “Human Playground,” about sport, culture and tradition.

Star Trek: Picard had a couple of wobbly episodes and made some odd decisions in the season 1 finale, but is generally considered a success so far. At the very least, it was nice to catch up with beloved Next Generation characters like Riker, Troi and Data, as well as see the aged Picard at odds with a new Starfleet. But there was one big absence from the first season that everyone missed. Yup, I’m talkin’ Worf.
Michael Dorn’s Klingon Chief of Security was one of the best characters on Tng and went on to make the jump to Deep Space Nine. In the last episode of that show, Worf was named as the Federation ambassador to the Klingon Empire, though he returned to the Enterprise for Star Trek: Nemesis. One of the best delights of the current season of “Star Trek: Discovery” is the unexpected presence of iconoclastic filmmaker David Cronenberg — as an actor. In this week’s episode of the CBS All Access series, the director of “The Fly,” “Dead Ringers,” and “A History of Violence” reprises his performance as the mysterious Federation official named Kovich, who takes a particular interest in Emperor Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh) and her origins in the cutthroat alternative Mirror Universe.
“He is an interrogator who’s also kind of an academic historian,” Cronenberg tells Variety about Kovich. “He plays his cards pretty close to his vest, as does the Emperor. And as he tries to pry open some secrets from her, she actually is doing the same to him.”

But what’s really going on? In “Terra Firma, Part 1,” Discovery has taken a very unexpected turn, seemingly in the middle of several other storylines, to fully tackle the mystery of fixing Georgiou’s “problem.” And that means that we’re now in a position where we have to unpack her Mirror Universe 2250s timeline to really get a sense of what the hell is going on. Jim Keller is exiting Hulu after almost seven years to join Discovery as executive VP, digital ad sales and advanced advertising — coming on board less than a month before the debut of the cabler’s Discovery Plus direct-to-consumer service.
In the new role, Keller will lead the strategic development of all Discovery’s U.S. digital ad sales, spanning Discovery Plus (launching Jan. 4) as well as the company’s streaming TV Everywhere Go apps, VOD, owned sites, programmatic and social.
Like Hulu, Discovery Plus will have a two-tiered model, priced at $4.99/month with ads and $6.99/month without ads. Among his duties, Keller will be tasked with guiding Discovery Plus’s data-driven approach to ad sales.

The future of Star Trek on the big screen remains shrouded in uncertainty, with Noah Hawley recently admitting that his movie wasn’t going to happen in the immediate future after Paramount placed the project on the back burner, while nobody involved in the Kelvin timeline seems to have a clue what’s going on, despite the willingness of the cast to return.
Luckily for fans of the long-running sci-fi franchise, though, Star Trek is in rude health on the small screen. Executive producer Alex Kurtzman has mapped out adventures until 2027 at least that encompass everything from Discovery and Picard to the animated Lower Decks, while spinoff Brave New Worlds starts filming next summer and the kid-friendly Prodigy will debut on Nickelodeon in a few months.

Based on a true story, the film follows the trajectory of archaeologist Basil Brown (Fiennes), who discovered and excavated a real-life 7th century Anglo-Saxon Ship burial site, one of the most remarkable discoveries of the 21st century. With the property owned by Edith Pretty (Mulligan), she hired Brown to find out if anything of particular interest is buried beneath. Lily James and Johnny Flynn co-star as fellow archaeologists Peggy Preston and Stuart Piggott.

This Star Trek: Discovery article contains spoilers for “The Sanctuary.”
After the hugely nostalgic trip to Ni’Var in “Unification III,” you’d think that Discovery might be briefly done with a ton of callbacks to previous eras of Trek. With Episode 8, “Sanctuary,” that guess is partially correct. When Burnham and Book hit-up Book’s home planet of Kwejian, the vast majority of what happens on that planet doesn’t have roots in old Trek canon, because, Kwejian — at least for Burnham — is a strange new world. This Star Trek: DiscoverY article contains spoilers for “Unification III.”
It’s Spock time! In “Unification III,” Star Trek: Discovery has continued a story that The Next Generation began in 1991. And, in doing so, the series has created an episode of Trek that is both nostalgic as hell and also forward-facing and new. Back before we even knew what Discovery would be like, we were told Michael Burnham was Spock’s adoptive sister. And now, Spock’s sister has come home!
From Tng vibes to sweet nods to the reboot films, to a lot of references to Spock, here’s all the Easter eggs and shout-outs we caught in Star Trek: Discovery, Season 3, Episode 7, “Unification III.”
New Starfleet Logo on USS Discovery
During the opening moments of the episode, we see that a newer, more rounded Starfleet insignia adorns the shuttle bay of the Discovery. This feels commensurate with the...

This Star Trek: Discovery article contains Major spoilers for “Unification III,” and spoilers for Picard.
Michael Burnham has returned to her home planet Vulcan in an attempt to recover some data from a Vulcan and Romulan alliance she never thought was even possible. If this sounds like the beginning of an epic title crawl in a Star Wars movie, you’re not far off. In Discovery Season 3, Episode 7, “Unification III,” the Trek franchise has delivered one of its most epic and generation-spanning episodes in a very long time. We always knew Star Trek: Discovery’s status as both a prequel and a sequel to Tos and Tng was tricky, but for fans everywhere, it was hard to believe these time-jumping tricks could ever result in an episode this heartfelt and straight-up cool.
And yet, if the USS Discovery’s visit to the planet Ni’Var had you scratching your head,...

Star Trek: Discovery Season 3, Episode 7
The Vulcans have long been one of Star Trek‘s most fascinating creations. A society built on the value of logic, The Original Series immediately challenged the concept by making main character Spock half-human, with all of the emotionality that comes with it. Through his struggles, we were able to see both the value and limits of a life led by logic; his conclusions (and ours) on the matter were rarely simple ones. That legacy continues on today in Discovery, with an episode decades in the making. “Unification III” is more than just a reference to the 90s-era Next Generation two-parter (“Unification I” and “Unification II”) that told the story of Ambassador Spock’s efforts to bridge the divide between the long-separated Vulcan and Romulan civilizations, it is an intentional and direct continuation of that story. This is...

This article Star Trek: Discovery article contains spoilers for Season 3, Episode 6.
One of the boldest aspects of Star Trek: Discovery Season 1 was the shocking revelation that a character from the Mirror Universe — Captain Lorca — had really been pulling the strings in the Prime Universe the whole time. And, if you thought you’d left the Mirror Universe behind when the USS Discovery jumped back in Season 1, think again. In Season 3, Episode 6, “Scavengers,” Discovery teases that the events in the Mirror Universe may still be hugely relevant to what’s happening now. Though it wasn’t mentioned a lot in Season 2, the deadly and sardonic Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh) who currently helps-out on Discovery was once the Emperor of the Terran Empire, and, after she was reminded of this fact in Episode 5, suddenly Georgiou is thinking about the Mirror Universe again.
But what does it mean? Here’s a look at...
