"Where are you going?" "Hell, baby." Dread has revealed an official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled The Hangman, the latest from genre filmmaker Bruce Wemple. This is now set for a VOD release this summer if any horror fans want to give it a look. The Hangman follows a father and son on a camping trip into deep rural Appalachia. A local cult has summoned an evil demon born of hate and pain, known to them as The Hangman, and now the bodies have begun to pile up. One more, the father wakes up find his son is gone. Starring LeJon Woods, Lindsey Dresbach, Richard Lounello, Jefferson Cox, Daniel Martin Berkey, & Mar Cellus. Wemple adds this amusing tease: "We set out to tell a story about the lengths a father will go to get his son back, including coming face to face with a bloodthirsty demon raised from hell.

Let me just start by saying that Healed, directed by Meghan Weinstein, should have been thrown into the trash, if not for the last fifteen minutes. I mean, it’s not that the climax saves it from being anything less than a disaster; just that it makes the whole thing less problematic. If you are as unfortunate as I was to witness this thing and feel sick afterwards, then I hope this article makes you feel a little better, or maybe, I should say, healed.

I’m beginning to think that, cinematically at least, the Wendigo hit its peak back in 1995 with Frostbiter: Wrath of the Wendigo, an absolutely batshit mix of folklore, Evil Dead-style mayhem, and stop-motion monsters. Despite some decent films on the subject like The Retreat there’s yet to be a definitive screen version of this creature from Native American folklore.
The latest take on the myth is titled, aptly enough, The Wendigo and it begins somewhere in the woods of North Carolina as YouTuber Logan calls out the creature’s name hoping to catch it on camera for his livestream. He gets more than he bargained for and gets dragged off while, in true found-footage fashion, his camera glitches.

Most of writer/director Bruce Wemple’s films fall into one of two categories. There are films about cryptids like Dawn of the Beast and The Retreat. And there are films dealing with abnormalities with time such as The Tomorrow Job and Lake Artifact.
Island Escape seems to be an attempt to bring the two themes together with this story of an accident at a research base on the Isle of Gran Manan. We know something is really wrong as the prologue shows a helicopter pilot being killed by what appears to be a bestial version of himself who then tries to fly off in the chopper only to have it explode in mid-air.

First Contact, the latest film from writer/director Bruce Wemple, sees him mixing the monster movie themes that he’s used in films like Dawn of the Beast with the time travel and sci-fi concepts from Lake Artifact and The Tomorrow Job with a hint of Lovecraftian cosmic terror. Add in some musings about family and the result is an entertaining if somewhat muddled, film.
Dr. Ian Bradach is a scientist working on something that seems incredibly important, finds his work interrupted by the arrival of a creature who we can’t really see, but we can tell is very hostile. It all ends with a column of bright white light exploding skyward.

Writer/directors Brit Marling and Zal Batmangli are a terrific creative pair, consistently delivering a mix of high-concept and adult drama into a super compelling assemblage. So, their next gig is the murder mystery series, “The Retreat,” and it’s just expanded its cast in a major way.
