Boundary magic where duality meets and changes
kurokadoart27 July 2023
Thematically, "The Flash (2022)" could be a variation on "Dreams, Washed Out (2018)." However, "The Flash" is a very complicated puzzle compared to "Dreams, Washed Out".

The images and narration seem unrelated at first glance, but the elements are linked here and there, creating an ambiguous structure in which the story appears and disappears as a whole.

Time changes into a box-like space, and it has a nested structure in which there is another box inside the box.

Viewers can rearrange the mysterious puzzles over and over to create their own story.

The innovativeness of this film lies in the fact that the viewers "actively" create stories in a vortex of images and words.

And in its depths, fundamental mysteries and pain are hidden such as sex, violence, eat and being eaten.

When consciousness descends the ladder of dreams, it leads to a labyrinth.

A man hears the voice of a woman in the depths of a thirst dream.

Is it the voice of a femme fatale? Or a goddess?

What will "you" find in the labyrinth?

And "what" will set "what" free?

Aladdined Bruncheonette ..

The Flash? It looks like nothing you've ever seen (tho' it exhibits shared DNA with 2018's Dreams, Washed Out, sure !). It *breathes* as an organism with layers of experiential data. Echoes of the "Electronic Folk" of Howth Castle & Environs sifted through the sleeping head of a passenger car in transit. Who is on the line? A mysterious delivery. When the ground changes, the figures may disappear .. but each phrase re-emerges, rhythmically. Songs of identity, a seamless procedure of Dream and embodied activity. An efficient package of Wonder, one of unguessed depth and rich surprise : I cannot stop watching.

Emotion and Memory play within a Dream Logic!

Warning: Spoilers
The Flash is an experimental short that explores the internal world of a female character while juxtaposing this with images of a male photographer Ugo, Enzo played by Malcolm Adams. The film translates a kaleidoscope of images that create a mosaic that taps into the subconscious thoughts of a character called The Girl. I like the visuals used in the film, especially the image of the photographer chasing an umbrella on the beach. The Girl is attempting to make sense of her reality while the visuals of the film unfurl with a dream like logic. The director Momó Yi Ching Lee has a keen eye for juxtaposing images and as a viewer you are left in a place where you are trying to catch up with the episodic nature of the colliding images. There are moments where you are drawn either into the visual of the photographer who is introduced to a woman's voice who is being seductive. The strongest element is the exploration into mystery, shifting reality and a dreamscape that chases the meaning as opposed to spoon feeding the audience. If you enjoy art cinema, this is an introspective take on how emotion and memory play within a dream logic.
