Honest Review! Only last 30 mins is really worth watching
ritz05121 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I had a great expectations from this movie. I thought this movie will show the history of Sikhs and their sacrifice during Mughal empire. The movie is around 2 hours 30 mins long but the writer has wasted first 2 hours of the movie which is just about five ordinary men who are hired to play Sikhs as Nader Shah's army fails to capture Sikhs. I could see very less information deliver on Sikhs and their history. However, the last 30 mins are worth watching. There is Ardas and then there is a fight which instigates everyone in the theatre. Music, costume and acting is wonderful no doubt about that but I feel that there should have been a better story.

Never judge a book by its cover
pardeepsingh-830374 September 2023
But in this case I fell for it. A good movie but I expected more.

The film starts very well. It represents well who the Sikhs were at the time. Then throughout the film there is no reference to Sikhs. For 1 hour and 45 minutes just jokes and comedy as usual. Above all character copied badly from Hollywood movies. And then come the last 15 minutes which are worth the cost of the ticket. Gurpreet Ghuggi and his performance alone are worth the cost of the ticket. The moment of the ardaas was another of the best moments of the film. I expected more from the rest of the cast and director. Hope this review is helpful for your future movies.

Blockbuster punjabi hit

"Mastaney" takes us on a historical journey that's as captivating as a forgotten chapter coming to life. Set against the backdrop of a bygone era, the film beautifully resurrects the past, making history feel like a living, breathing entity. The attention to historical details is like carefully curated artifacts, transporting the audience to a time long gone. The characters wear history like a second skin, their struggles and triumphs echoing the echoes of yesteryears. Just like a time machine, "Mastaney" bridges the gap between then and now, reminding us that the stories of the past are woven into the fabric of our present.

preetwarraichau27 August 2023
Mastane movie narrates historical events and sikh empire in a beautiful and authentic way. The whole movie binds your attention and takes you back to the era when India was being invaded by foreign invaders, looting wealth and respect of the nation. Hats of to the tremendous direction and utterly awesome actors who contributed to this masterpiece. I would any day watch it more than 10 times and get to learn/ take away a new positive thought out from it. A MUST WATCH for all those who lure for the best cinema, for those who want to know how every cruelty sprouts the beginning of fearless leaders.... MASTANE..!

Overall a good effort, but left me wanting more
singhusa20225 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Mastaney's trailer got me very excited. I expected a colorful movie detailing the events of Panjab during the time. Instead the movie briefly touches history with a couple one-liners here and there and focuses on a love story and the magical transformation of 5 ordinary men into warriors with 1 recitation of Sikh prayer. I am not downplaying the psychological strength of prayer, but no significant training scenes are depicted and no significant historical backdrop is depicted.

The film falsely uses the guise of history to sell a love narrative between a slave-girl and a drunkard. The film had so much potential, and it could have been like "Troy" or "300". It could have at least been like "The Black Prince". I felt like I wasted by money and time during the movie.

I do commend the team on the graphics and superb music. Music score was amazing. Costumes were good too. The story could have been more historical, like film "Sajjan Singh Rangroot", which managed to balance historical story telling while also creating a drama. I also commend the team for making the production in multiple Indian languages, something which needs to be done more. Also, the use of Farsi in the film's opening sequences was brilliant.

Overall a good effort, but left me wanting more. I support Panjabi movies like this, but they need to step up their game. Aspire to rival Bollywood and Hollywood, do not succumb to them.

Don't fall for the reviews you will be disappointed!
manpreetping30 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
At the outset, I am a sikh and hugely respect and revere sikh culture , history and feel blessed to be part of such a humanitarian community which has been recognised all over the world due to its selfless service to the humanity , its big heartedness and generosity. Our gurus made this religion out of amalgamating ppl from myriad diasporas , castes and creed to follow the path of righteousness and courage.

As far as movie is concerned, it has a strong opening scene depicting the much ridiculed '12 o clock' sequence of sikh history. I was excited to see how the things unfold but 10 mins into the movie you are just staring at wasted opportunity of showcasing one of the most brave and compassionate community to inhabit the world. Poor screenplay, terrible cgi and incongruent cinematography makes it emotionally frustrating to watch. Main characters of the movie are busy frolicking just like any other punjabi movie these days with no effort put to the character development , ppl from initial sequence are very calmly forgotten about who were supposed to be the cruz of the story!

Movie wander around for another 2 hrs and it is only in the last 15-20 mins when gurpreet ghuggi delivers one of his best performances of the career that u become alive and throbbing and feel the power of 'ardaas' which put life in the dead.... Very very average movie of very very extraordinary and valiant history! Wait for it to come to ott.

Starts well but then poops out
rubysraj9 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I had super high exceptions from this movie. The historical aspect and talented star cast had my hopes very high. Most of the reviewers gave it 10 rating. Anyways I started watching it. The beginning is super amazing. Then the director lost control on the movie. As soon as the Qalandar character enters, the movie starts becoming a chewing gum. The actors are dressed up like clowns. Worst one is the stolen one for Tarsem Jassar from Pirates of the carribean. Such fake accent. Why is Simi Chahal casted for this movie? Why was she given any dialogues?

I would give 10 points for the effort. The younger generations should know our proud history.

Execution and acting could have been much better. Tarsem Jassar's worst acting so far. Simi Chahal should be banned from acting. Background score tries to engage but seems to clichéd Cinematography is very good. Make up is stupid in many scenes. Fake beards are too obvious.

Most of the people gave it good rating for obvious reasons but analytically speaking "if you watched the trailer, you have pretty much watched the whole movie "

Emotional journey into the heart of Sikhism.
planet-8413627 August 2023
Movie Mastaney" is more than just a historical drama; it's an emotional journey into the heart of Sikhism.

The ensemble cast delivers commendable performances. The transformation of the five ordinary men is heart-wrenching to watch, providing both moments of humor and profound realizations. Their journey from naive impersonators to true Sikh warriors is the soul of the movie, serving as a metaphor for the transformative power of faith and belief.

The film's music deserves special mention. The score is a harmonious blend of traditional Sikh hymns and contemporary instrumentation, creating an atmospheric backdrop that adds depth to every scene.

It's more than just a movie
gauravpreetkaursidhu28 August 2023
Mastaney is the rare Punjabi movie that succeeds on almost every level. This movie is filled with amazing characters who truly make the film. Gurpreet Ghuggi gives a legendary performance in this movie.

This is the true story of courage, value, valor, character and grit. Must watch for everyone and this is an inspiration for everyone, how the Sikhs had the courage and values to stand against the cruel and did not digress from the path even for a sec.

Sikh history is full of sacrifices for mankind and this movies further enforces that. It would be an example for many film makers to make such kind of movies with elaboration of history. Watch guys - you will be amazed by end of film to believe this is in fact very much a true story.

A Must Watch
sarabjitsinghghuman26 August 2023
The script and screenplay is just great with set portraying the historical facts and close to originality marvelous the crew just outstanding acting directing the vibes while watching the words to describe English dictionary or language does not contain. Very very very touching while portraying and taking you to that time and keeping you in it submersing you in the feel and time of the events. It doesn't matter who you are go watch. 1st Panjabi movie that I would put on top of every list of all type of movies that I have seen. Due to the fact of how under privileged is the Panjabi industry and they still managed to put this masterpiece out.

Great movie must watch
angadpalsinghca26 August 2023
Finally, great to see Punjabi Cinema, come out of comedy and liquor. Great Punjabi movie built on Sikh history, very nice picturisation, amazing acting by Tarsem Jassar, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Simi Chahal, Karamjit Anmol. Very beautiful storyline.

Movies like this should be made frequently so that the young generation can realise the real history of their country and their community. After all, the literature designs the society.

Congratulations to the team of Vehli Janta films. And a special congratulations to the director, Sharan Art. He has come a long way in producing such cool masterpieces.

Highly recommended to watch.

Its just a movie don't let your emotions overpower your rational thinking.
pshycevolve30 August 2023
Stars given for cinematography, good sets but the major disappointment for me that there was no teaching in it. Ardaas do have power but till the end they (main leads) don't even bother to really know about Sikhism and its teachings just entering the arena and hearing Ardaas without even learning about Sikhism and acting as a fake Sikhs they are ready to fight for no cause.

This is just a pure Movie for business and does not convey even a bit of Sikhism and the Martyrs of the real Sikhs and the cause they fought for.

So please stop misguiding the public and its just a hype because of the people sentiments and the way they promote movie.

This movie is just pure business with good marketing strategy.

Best Movie To Know About The Sikh History.
princesharmaroyal29 August 2023
I Am Hindu(Hindi Speaking)And Sometime Unable To Understand The Punjabi Language.

After This I Watched This Movie. Movie Is Best And Everyone Should Watch This If You Don't Have Any Launguage Issue. I Didn't Read About Sikh History So I Don't Talk About The Credibility But Yes Movie Is Realistic.

I Think Movie Should Be Released On More Screen With Dubbed Version. Most Of The Theatres Are Not Released This Movie Because Of PR Team. Even They Didn't Promote This Movie At Mass Level.

I Hope Big OTT Platform Will Buy This Movie For More Reach.

Punjabi Regional Cinema Is Also Coming With A Good Storyline.

Good Job 👏👍

Average Movie
tammytimtam31 August 2023
Good concept. Movie was pretty average. Acting was very average. Mimicking like Jack Sparrow was huge let down for me like Punjabi cinema can't even create something original even if the source is history. Another let down was Makeup. Beard looked so fake that you can even tell that just by looking at it. Next, action scenes were like south movies where villains flying through air and fight looked so fake in most parts. There are lot of options to make fight looked better but nothing much was done about it. Next, CGI was ok but nothing special, firework looked so fake. Good points is that someone attempted to make where Muslims transformed into true Sikhs those who fight against evil without religious tags and I believe that's what Sikhism was but now its just like any another religion that Guru's were against at first place. Anyways, so this movie is mixture of things that you might agree or don't. To me, concept was good in whole movie but ruined in last part when they attached Ardas as Magical Power instead of powerful speech that fills you with courage.

The target market was people who have blind faith and those who get emotional too soon. By use of good market strategies they probably made decent amount of money from this movie. And now that some people are criticising this movie, same people who felt so proud after watching this movie might be feeling like that it was not so good movie.

In the end i will say it was nothing special. It was just entertainment. I think our cinema needs to create stuff with heart but we create stuff for money first and this movie was pretty good example of it. But its not their fault, our audience don't have taste for good movies either.

"Powerful Punjabi Film: A Tribute to Sikh Valor and History"
gillhappy-0294928 August 2023
This movie is a must-watch not just for Sikhs but for every Indian. It comes highly recommended because it sheds light on the bravery of Sikhs and their unwavering strength. This film takes things to the next level with its innovative concept and stellar performances that are worth their weight in gold. It's a family affair; gather your loved ones to experience this cinematic masterpiece.

Indian cinema direly needs more of these gems. Every individual should be acquainted with our historical roots. Had Sikhs not stood up against Nadar Shah, it would have been a dark stain on India's history. Let's rally behind these groundbreaking cinematic ventures, for understanding our heritage is of paramount importance.

This movie deserves worldwide support, as it's a testament to our shared history. It's a source of pride for Sikhs and a lesson for us all about our remarkable past.

Eastern excellence and exemplary cinema
simonzidaine30 August 2023
As an Australian, I was curious so I decided to walk-in unplanned on one of the sessions and followed the subtitles as the story unfolded. I have been a devout watcher of historical period dramas/ cinema of regions of South Korea, India, China, Japan, middle east and obviously Hollywood. The poster of warriors at the cinema left me puzzled so of-course the eccentric person I am, I thought to myself - "what is the worst that could happen - I get some sleep"... And boy - was I absolutely wrong and wide off the mark as I have ever been.

This movie has so much impeccability and heart that I was left in awe and almost a new man when I left the cinema room. I have watched thousands of movies from across the world within my 50 years on earth. I have been delighted by a lot of Indian period cinema over the years but this piece of entertainment has impressed me beyond words where truly and undoubtedly I believe Indian cinema has reached heights unimaginable.

Sikhs are a community known in the west as an Indian sub-group, hardworking and humble - but surprisingly they have rich history that needs to be told across the world of being fierce and noble. Sikhs are extremely under-represented in international cinema and I believe this does not do justice to the global cinema scene. I hope this will eventually get translations in English, French and Spanish. We definitely need more sensational period dramas from this community, and I hope they present us many more of such gems possible and get other communities involved.

I intend on watching this again and this time with my kids, who will appreciate the entertainment and the lessons this movie leaves for them of nobility. Thank you - Indian cinema.

Feeling Proud of our real History
gurkirtansingh-4984529 August 2023
First time saw this true story of sikh empire.

Real spirit power of sikh ardaas (prayer). The Sikh religion is one of the youngest world religions and was founded more than 500 years ago (1469) in Punjab, North India, by Guru Nanak Dev Ji, in response to a spiritual revelation. Nanak and his nine successors are known as 'gurus', which is a term for a spiritual guide or teacher.

Warrior, poet, philosopher and the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh is one of the most revered figures of Indian history and culture. Besides making important contributions to Sikhism and founding the Khalsa, Guru Gobind Singh fought several courageous battles especially against the tyranny of Mughals. Guru Gobind Singh quotes gives an insight into the Khalsa philosphy and the Sikh Guru's teachings.

Last 20 mins worth watching
jassandhu-283333 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Tarsem just copied jack sparrow of pirates of caribbean and story line totally out of track from the main topic about sikhs. Ghughi acting is gud. In middle just going here there Not even comedy and Not even 100% about sikhs history They jist cant show the history in proper manner as sikhs got a great history and even greatest warriors of all time but after watching this i was really disappointed not only after watching but while watching .

The only gud thing in movie is last 20 mins otherwise it has very little about sikh warriors.

They should show in proper manner the great warriors. ........
