Solid episode, they're slowly finding their way back
itisiabanana26 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Tonight's episode was a good one. It felt very close to the 9-1-1 of old that everyone wants back so badly.

Kind of a filler, but had some important character parallels if you're paying attention.

I loved all of the Hen and Karen content. It was fun to see them have fun together and get decent screen time. I'm very excited for more of them, especially in finale, given the hints we've seen!

Maddie getting to experience a first with Jee-Yun was heartwarming, as was Chimney's reaction. They're gonna find their way back to each other sooner rather than later.

Eddie had minimal screen time but I loved his scenes. His big brother vibe with May was so enjoyable to watch and seeing him even a little healthier was wonderful. There were so many hints in the episode regarding his healing arc; I can't wait for the rest of the season to explore that more!

The negatives...they're still spending too much time setting up calls. Do we really need two minutes of set up for a lying influencer to fall in the sauna? No. The scenes with emergencies just feel off in general, which brings us to the next negative.

Lucy Donato is a character that never should have been. She doesn't vibe with the crew, her "quips" come off as rude. To bring her in and hype her up so much for her to just be...this? Ravi or even a background crew member with no name could've filled her shoes this season without taking the focus from main characters and wasting everyone's time. I hope she's gone by the end of the season.

Pretty good

Warning: Spoilers
Most parts of this episode I genuinely enjoyed--Henren and Bathena scenes, Eddie and May's friendship, the calls were decent and the last one was really emotional.

Lucy needs to go, she's bringing absolutely nothing to the table. There was no point to her being in this episode, she didn't do or say anything significant the entire time and the things she did say were so rude! I don't understand what they're trying to do with her character and I'm just over it.

Missed Ravi, Albert, Chris, etc. In this episode. I hope they get more screentime in the last 3 episodes.

Overall this episode kinda felt like filler before May Day, which I think they're plugging as their big episode for 5B. Nothing super significant happened plot wise but we got some good character tidbits and interactions.

Well-balanced episode

Long overdue focus on Henren. Overall good combination of call-drama (the mom scenes were devastating), medical detail and main character focus. Interesting subtle narrative regarding the continued red line of the 'heart'. Eddie's progress is still the highlight of the season.

I Loved This Episode!

Warning: Spoilers
I always love when we get to see the Buckley siblings and Hen/Karen!

Maddie and Buck's scene was incredible! Maddie is an incredible mom and I love that Buck let her see that she's been a great mom his whole life. I hate that she went though that. I know first hand what it is like to be parentified at a young age and I completely understand her anxiety about being a good mom. I love that Buck is showing her how much he loves and appreciates her.

I always love when we get to see Karen! Hen and Karen are such an adorable couple and their scenes were incredible! I especially loved the end scene when they were trying to find the thief. It was adorable and so entertaining. I hope we see more of them in future episodes!

Eddie and May's friendship is adorable. I love that they have become such good friends and that Eddie was able to be there for her. It was also good to see that therapy is helping Eddie. I can't wait to see where May's storyline goes.

As always I absolutely love Chimney, Bobby, and Athena. Chimney, Maddie, and Jee-Yun are the cutest family and you can tell how much they love each other. I'm interested to see where Athena's storyline is going, it seems like they've been hinting a lot about her career. Bobby is the sweetest man and I love him so much!

The only downsides to this episode are that Ravi is not in it and that Lucy still is. I really wish that they would make Ravi a main. I absolutely love his character and it feels like something is missing when he's not there. I also still have no love for Lucy. I really think they could have given all of her scenes to Ravi and they would have been so much better. I don't see what she brings to the show and it just feels like she's taking valuable screentime from characters that the audience truly loves. I hope that the writers/show runners see that Lucy has not been embraced by the audience and chooses not to bring her back for next season. And I hope this pushes them to give Ravi more screentime as he has been embraced by the audience since his very first episode. I would love to learn more about his character and there is so many potential storylines for him.

Are we ever getting back to the good old days?
stillnotyourbusiness26 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Average episode with nothing much going on.

The only interesting thing has been Hen and Karen (I wish they'd focus more on side characters we know and love instead of others), May and Eddie at dispatch working together, the two seconds we got of Maddie and Chimney and May's storyline.

The emergencies just don't feel like the same, there's a weird aura around the team and Lucy being there just makes everything worse. She has like 5 lines and none of them makes sense. They are telling us she's a badass woman (still haven't had the pleasure to encounter that) but since it looks like they are lost, I'll lead them in the right direction. A little hint, Karen, May, Maddie, Athena, and Hen are badass women, whatever they are doing with Lucy isn't.

It's sad that a fan favourite like Buck has been reduced to a white boy that does nothing other than deal with his toxic romantic life. It's just disappointing and it literally throws away 4 years of development. If Taylor and Lucy aren't there he doesn't have anything to do, and it's just boring, let him have some interesting arcs.

Can they please focus on Maddie and Chimney, and Eddie again? They are the only interesting thing that has happened to this show since the premiere of season 5.

Whether it is the new co-showrunner or just the format being burned out, this season has been nothing like what this show used to be, and instead of sticking to what the audience likes (main characters and recurring characters we have known for seasons) they keep bringing new people with no acting talent to portray boring characters. I'd rather watch 42 minutes of the 118 going to pick cats from trees, than whatever the hell this is.

Solid episode. Felt like the 9-1-1 I love.
cibelekzm26 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I'm going to start by saying I particularly love how the episode gave us some casual info about the characters in such a natural way, such as

  • Buck, Bobby and Athena watching the wedding reality show
  • Hen Ren having 11 streaming services
  • Some other stuff over Athena's college days
  • And the one interested me more: Bobby coming from a legacy family, being 4th generation of a family of firefighters. (Now I hope they introduce us to the other firefighters in Nash family in a possible next season)

This one escalated very quickly... From an influencer living a fake life, to a faint in a wedding reality show, to 3 kids losing their mom... I wasn't expecting that, It was supposed to be my lighthearted episode, to compensate over what we're going through next week ;-;.

Hen and Karen queens of the episode. All the content with them was gold, specially the thief hunt, that is another iconic "playing detective" scene to add in the list of this show, together with Michael&Bobby in S4 and Bathena in 5A.

I loved the ending sequence, and then the preview crushed me, and now it's all I can think about LMAO.

Anyway this is the 9-1-1 I love, glad to see this 5B is compensating a lot over the mess 5A was.

Eddie diaz - so much to unpack
YouGotTimeForASinner26 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This was definitely an obvious filler episode but a fairly good one for several reasons: henren, that buckley sibling moment, and that last rescue which had me actually in tears. I was also shocked they even mentioned Daniel, but I'm glad they did! I am so used to 911 sweeping big moments under the rug to never discuss again so that was a pleasant surprise.

I do wish that first rescue was half the time, I'm not sure why that dragged on so long? Also at this point I really can say I just don't like Lucy. Sorry but it's just painful to watch (honestly that's partly why I had to dock points for this episode). Having that scene with the 118 in the truck, it just didn't work without Eddie or even Ravi. Lucy just does not have chemistry with the group 😭 It felt like it was trying to do what we all love but with the wrong person (maybe that's intentional? Hard to know). Hen and Chimney in the scene with the mother was beautiful though.

It feels like we are setting up a goodbye for May to go off to college, and I get it, but if so I'll miss her! Having May and Eddie interact was a fun dynamic, it was nice to see Eddie doing better but can we just - can we talk about those two scenes? Surely everyone was getting the same vibes? I know Eddie's recovery encompasses many complex things, and so far the journey has been beautiful - but if part of it isn't about his identity and sexual identity then count me VERY confused because that's certainly what it feels like is happening...and I really hope they are brave enough to go there. Anything else will feel like a bit of a cop out. Eddie Diaz is certainly the draw this season and I am very excited to see his return to Texas to confront his parents. (And PLEASE we do not need a repeat of the Buckley parents being let off the hook).

Lastly, one point deducted for making Buck have his fomo moment be crypto currency. I'm glad Buck has had the opportunity to have his light hearted moments but there's no way I believe he would be a bitcoin bro. He's more like the guy that explains to you why it's bad for the environment after he spends a night researching the impact of the blockchain. 911 stop massacaring our boy!

Henren were a delight in this episode
seban-0155026 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
So let's start with the good points. We never can have enough of Tracie Thoms on our screen so FOMO having some lovely Henren moments truly made parts of this episode beautiful. I loved seeing them having happy times instead of sad ones and just being content in their lives. Really been a long while since we got to see that.

Eddie and May, the unexpected friendship that we didn't know we needed but now can't be without; what beautiful scenes they had too. I hope whatever is in their futures we get to see them remaining friends.

On to the not so good.

Why, why, why, WHY does this show think we want to see Lucy Donato front and centre for anything? This is literally the worst character the show has ever introduced, truly I can't tell if she's supposed to not be gelling with the 118 and this is the allegedly wonderful writing team 'foreshadowing', or if what the actress thinks she is portraying is in fact the exact opposite. All I know is, this episode did not need her. Ravi would have been far better a choice.

Finally. Who. The Hell. Is 'Buck'. Seriously. Who is this caricature? The show just seems intent on ruining his character until no one cares anymore - or are we supposed to lap all this rubbish up because it's 'fun buck'? I don't now who said this was fun but 1) crypto? No. And 2) the way he was acting up for the cameras in the reality show call made me cringe so hard. This isn't even Buck 1.0, this is far worse. Actually did not think I could dislike this character but damn. They are really making me.

All in all FOMO wasn't awful, and it's far better than some of the nonsense we've been shown of late, but 911 just seems so very, very lost right now and this episode was just proof of that.

Loved Hen and Karen and Eddie and May...
JMadems26 April 2022
But the emergencies were either lame or heartbreaking. And that vapid Donarou is still snarking every chance she gets. Did you intentionally write her this nasty or is that just her idea of acting? Loved that some of her scenes got lost but even one is too many! Please send her packing on to torture some other firehouse. Pity them. Send her to LS - she's about the right age for Owens next conquest. Bucks getting lost in this mess. We get a quick view of his clown act at the wedding- then gone. Get the writers back from 2&3 and return Tim to the helm before this ship sinks!!
