Rebecca (1940)

Never seen a Rebecca

You never see Rebecca throughout the movie, yet she captivates you as the audience for the most part. Her beauty, wits and most importantly how she had managed to admire so many people all at once while maintaining her solemnity with everyone except her husband. Without going into too much depth, this movie will captivate you, confuse you and still manage to not deprive you of the very curiosity you will crave for. But a vintage masterpiece you shouldn't pass by. There are some scenes however which I felt could have been dealt with in greater detail, but considering this is an old classic, one must realize there are some things better not to expect. Enjoy it as is. 8/10

Super 8 (2011)

I did not have any expectations when I went to watch the movie and even then I thought it was a complete waste of time. The plot just got dumber and dumber and finally it ended. If you are a 6 yr old who has never seen a monster movie in your life you might like it. Other than that it's just crap. If you have seen the trailer you have seen the best parts of the movie, so don't bother watching it. I'm not even clear how Steven Spielberg could make such a pathetic movie?? We are not in 1980's anymore so he should stop bringing in those elements. It just doesn't work. Not with the sci-fci genre.

In short, the film starts out with a bunch of kids wanting to make a movie, they experience a horrible train crash and then everything goes awry from there. The monster/alien is supposedly attacking people, but when he approaches a kid and gets a 5 min sensitive talk the alien packs his bags and leaves earth??? That's got to be lame. On top of that, put in a couple of sleazy jump scenes with loud noises and that's about it.

The only positive thing about the movie is the train accident scene.

I had the pleasure of catching this movie on Netflix after almost 13+ years. I was only 14 the last time my cousin, sister and I had sat together one warm summer afternoon and watched this on HBO. After that I didn't remember the name of the movie, just knew enough to know that Meryl Streep was in it. The movie made a mark on my childhood, I was deeply engrossed by the mystical capabilities on Streep. Her poignance and courage in the movie paved the way for much of the artsy feeling I enjoyed.

Years later I still love the movie, frankly because it brought back memories of my childhood and I got a chance to relive it all.

Rosemary's Baby (1968)

More like mystery/drama and not horror

If this movie was made in 2011, it would have received a 5.5/10 rating. Please don't be fooled by the genre listed in as horror because it simply isn't. I was not scared, no chills or thrills, just plain bored. If you want to watch horror, I'd recommend the classics Exorcist, Omen or The Shining. Now watch that and see if you can sleep with your lights on. I was all fired up to be on the edge of my seat, but as the movie progressed I felt there wasn't going to be anything scary, a little bit of mystery yes since Rosemary does not know whether she is delusional or her neighbors are really out to get her baby., but that's about it. The ending is a little lame too. After a watching a movie for nearly 2 hours long you will expect a scarier ending.

Insidious (I) (2010)

Not scary, funny at times, lame storyline

Darn, this movie was not scary. I read into all the good reviews here and was biting my nails as the movie began. I was so tensed and stressed out even before it began. I watch horror movies all the time. With regards to this movie, if you are 8 years old you will be scared no doubt, but not for adults. And I even saw a bunch of 8 yr olds walk into the theater and then I knew something wasn't right. It was more like taking your kids to the carnival to see some scary looking clowns. My husband and I were bored half way through, we just wanted it to be over. The script started out pretty well but the writer went overboard. In this day and age no soul would believe the things which the folks in this movie believed. There's got to be a decent scientific explanation to everything, you can't just close your eyes and vanish into the 'Further'.

In Her Mother's Footsteps (2006 TV Movie)

simply flawed

I found this movie to be too very flawed. Of course its a made for TV movie, but I've seen much better TV movies. The movie starts off with a young woman who has lost her father and inherits a wealthy mansion. The wealthy mansion is apparently either haunted or she is insane, because she has these really fake 'visions' throughout the movie. The ghosts look like people wearing halloween masks. And there is simply no jumpy scenes or scare the hell out of you looks from any of the characters. None of the characters in the movie make you want to save them, except the little girl who has acted pretty well. I most certainly started to predict where the story would lead to, but in the end, the movie had such a pathetic twist, that I felt like I had wasted my entire evening. Do yourself a favor and get some sleep. You didn't miss anything.

Final Destination (2000)

Death by Design!

I loved the idea of "Death by design". It brings out the necessary fear in each one of us if we were to believe that we were all somehow interconnected, sitting on this chain of destruction awaiting us. Yet in this movie this interconnected web is a small group of friends who have happened to have escaped death the very first time around.

Although the whole plot gets way too unrealistic towards the end, it still manages to capture your mind and keep you guessing what's next and where this is heading.

Nobody knows why they are born and where they will go after death or even when they will die etc. Many questions lie unanswered by science only to suggest the idea or even the very notion of - if or whether someone can predict death/destruction coming towards someone or themselves.

Its not a great movie, if you like horror or thriller too much you may not enjoy this one, it just taunts your mind with sculpted ideas.

6.5/10, acting wasn't good, ending was boring and a little cheesy. Good for a Saturday afternoon flick!

Arlington Road (1999)

Neither good nor bad.

I'm happy I watched this movie for free. But the ratings kind of lured me into thinking this could be a good drama/suspense movie. But this movie has quite a few loopholes, major ones being poor acting at times, not a very thrilling story, predictable scenes and a very unsatisfying ending. The only positive aspects of this movie would be: i.e if you are planning on watching it for free on a weekend night, it has quite a few jumpy scenes which really skipped a beat for me, the story builds up pretty slowly but gives you some clues and makes you doubt whether in fact your neighbour could be plotting something big. I would definitely recommend this movie if you are watching it for free on Direct TV on demand or comcast on demand etc. But not worth the penny!

If I were to rate this movie, I would most likely give it a 6/10.

Paranormal Activity (2007)

It's not very scary!

Don't trust the hype. I was really scared to watch this movie, my husband bought the tickets and I was still hesitant to sit through this movie and that's because I'm a total wimp when it comes to horror movies. Anything related to the supernatural scares me for days and sometimes even weeks. It just physically affects me.

So hearing, reading all the hype that came out of this movie, I was holding to my seat as it started. The first few minutes into the film, I did not feel relaxed, rather was building up tension thinking this is going to be it. But, but but, as the movie progressed I only felt calmer and more relaxed.

Let me spill out some pros and cons related to this movie: Pros: 1. For the low budget cost of this movie, its pretty well done. 2. It's not really that shaky like others have mentioned, at least I didn't feel much of it. 3. This movie will scare young adults (13 - 17), but will be a good laugh for anyone over 20. 4. The movie has a lot of jokes and it's not that boring.

Cons:

1. It's not scary, let me repeat this. It was not scary. If you get scared by the slightest noise in your house, then you maybe scared. 2. I felt the movie was too short, it's almost as if I wanted a really suspenseful ending, but it wasn't good (something which I expected)! 3. I watched this movie, came back to my house, was sitting in my room and I heard a thud thud thud and lights flicker, and I know, I was just laughing like crazy! :-)

I give it a 7/10 since it might scare teens, and it was pretty well done.

Pandorum (2009)

Loud insane sound, camera movements rapid, boring storyline.

I had high expectations for this movie. Especially since the tralier seemed so promising. But I was wrong. I don't know about you, but watching a movie should not hurt your eyes and ears. Because, that is all that the movie accomplished. I give this movie maybe a 5/10 because of some of the graphics, but the movement of the camera in some of the action scenes made me close my eyes for many parts of the movie. The storyline isn't very interesting, a bunch of zombie or weird looking creatures chasing you? And all you need to do is run? How did the humans who were awake earlier survive for so many days/months/years/whatever without proper food/hygiene? And the female character was jumping around like some sort of a cat? Sigh!! Seriously, don't waste your time. This movie is highly overrated! Catch yourself some popcorn and maybe some old sci-fi movies which you can simply enjoy from the comfort of your own home!

The Last House on the Left (2009)

Ups and Downs!

Before you watch this movie, there might be some stuff you need to know. First off, it's not a movie for anyone below 18, simply because of the psychological effect it can have on young kids. Some scenes are painful to watch!

That said, the movie has its ups and downs. First, the downs. I can't say I didn't enjoy this movie, it was not very bad like many people said it was. However, it wasn't very good either. First of, it's not a horror or thriller movie. Horror movies should make you feel scared and make you jump out of your seat. This movie is neither scary to watch nor thrilling. It's more story like. So it falls under the wrong genre. And secondly, some scenes are way too overdone (gore and revenge scenes). It should have been left a little undone. I don't want to go into the details, will let your decide for yourself.

Having said that, there are quite a few ups in this movie. It certainly is not boring or plain. It has a thought out story line. And everything makes sense. There's enough suspense built up to get you going and you may enjoy parts of it.

I'm rating it a 6.5/10.

Brüno (2009)

A disgusting movie!

A disgrace to MANKIND!! SICK, does not potray anything. Has no humor, only wild tactics and rubbish scenes. If you like watching Gay Porn, this movie is for you! Having thought this would be a comedy movie, we went in only to get offended. We felt so ashamed by almost every scene, that we couldn't understand how someone could make such a grose movie to showcase to the public. To everyone planning on watching this movie, it's not worth even a cent. It's simply awful. Does not deserve the ratings it has received. Having said that, please save your time/money for something more useful! There are better movies to watch. Hope you got the message.

Friday the 13th (2009)

Sucks!

Acting was bad. In fact it was terrible. Setting was usual. Jumpy scenes, yes there were quite a few. But something was missing from this movie that didn't totally make it rock. Maybe people are just tired of the same ole' same ole'.

If you're watching this movie straight out the first time, you still may not like this one. I feel most Friday the 13th sequels have the same to give. Bunch of kids, camping in the middle of the woods, hear the creek creek noise, you see the hockey masked guy appearing out of nowhere staring at you in the woods.

If you were a fan of the earlier 80's movies, I can see why you may not have liked this one just as much. It turned out to be a little short, scary scenes were dragged on at times and were not really scary.. just boring.

Jason was not intimidating at all. He was sort of funny to watch. They did a terrible job at showcasing the jumpy scenes. It became very dramatic and predictable, which ultimately makes you YAWN!

The opening scene lasted so long that I forgot it was the opening scene of the movie. And how on earth did Jason know how to set traps, kidnap people and keep them tied underground? How did Whitney last so long without proper air, food and water? Did Jason cook for her or something? And he couldn't figure out that she was too young to be his mother? Ridiculous story.

I remember watching an earlier 'Friday the 13th' series movies and I was so frightened after the whole movie got over that it simply kept recurring the week after. This movie does not do any of that. It's so lame.

Please don't watch it on DVD either, its really not worth it!

Gran Torino (2008)

Beautiful movie!

You have to wait till the end. Because that's the beginning. OK maybe I'm wrong in the way I word it. But, just when I thought this movie was going to be boring, lame, silly, stupid, I was caught in suspense, anger, simply a wide range of emotions running wild inside me. You have got to see it to believe it. It's just an ordinary film, not much action involved, more or less a high profile drama. And if that's what you crave for, you'll love this one! It starts off at quite a slow pace and speeds up rather slowly, embarking one of the most karmic adventures you would ever take in one's life. In other words, go watch it!

The Ring (2002)

A Masterpiece of horror!

The Ring is simply one of my all-time favorite horror movies. It lives, breathes and dies with horror. Most movies seem to lack certain elements that don't serve to bring a lasting impression on you. But this is just the kind of horror movie that will leave you feeling utterly helplessly creepy even days after you have walked out of the theater. The disturbing scenes, the creepy music, the cabin in the woods setting, everything seems just right enough! Rent it, not alone of course, enjoy it with a group of friends. It's definitely worth watching if you are a true horror fan! WARNING: If you cannot handle psychological horror mixed with ghostly images, creepy settings,intense thrillers, then this is NOT the movie for U!!!

I didn't like the movie at all. Where was the horror? Simply having loud noises boom at your ear every once in a while shouldn't be the factor to make you jump. In fact you don't even need loud sound effects to creep you out. Once in a while it's okay, but not throughout the movie and for every scene. I just got bored of it. The movie was very dragging, sort of similar to it's name, I guess. And you could sorta guess how the ending would turn out to be, DUH! Horror + comedy + goo simply don't go well together. They should be kept apart in the scenes at least. It's only going to grose you out to the point where you will feel like throwing up if you're eating something. Save yourself the money and watch this sometime for free, like in a few years maybe. Oh and btw, your 13-14 yr olds might get scared with the sound effects being so harsh. So beware!

Mirrors (I) (2008)

Creepy!!

Creepy! It's very creepy. Think about being a security guard, having to protect a burned down building. This building is no ordinary one, it's more like a burnt down haunted mansion. What touched me the most was not just the fact that they have great special effects in this movie, but they also showcased it in a darn good way. I eventually walked out of the theater after watching it half the way, couldn't sit through it. So I'm here to spill the evil on only the first half or so of the movie, and since I haven't seen the ending, I'm giving it a rating only based on the first half. If you like psychological horror, this would be fun to watch for you! But if you're not, I would most likely watch conventional slasher movies.

Bhoot (2003)

It's creepy alright!

This movie definitely has a very creepy setting. What works on you is that its not a haunted mansion setting, but a local apartment in Mumbai, one which you could be renting right now. Add some creepy looking doll and eerie music, you're most likely going to grab the next person sitting next to you and cry to be released. But! this intense thriller, horror remains only in the first half of the movie. The second half, although I'm not going to make any specific remarks, ( want you to find out for yourself) tries to remake some of the earlier Hollywood movies and it sort of takes your attention off of the whole movie. That's when the movie's originality begins to slide and fail.

They should have done something different, but most horror genres have this habit of screwing up some portion of the movie. But let me warn you, this movie is certainly NOT for kids. If you cannot withstand watching supernatural horror, please don't watch this one, it might really grip you tight for a few weeks, or even months maybe!

Knowing (2009)

May not be sutiable for 13+

There are many things which need to be underlined in this movie. It's not suitable to watch for teens who cannot withstand horror/thriller. I am 25 and I was spooked by some of the scenes in the first half of this movie. So I'm guessing it should be categorized under mystery/horror/thriller. There are some slight tense sequences. As the title suggests, it started out very well, plot seemed really good but when we reached the middle of the movie, something seriously went wrong. It was almost as if they targeted young adults to watch the beginning of the movie, then drastically altered the storyline introducing some weird people who layed stones and towards the end of the movie, it was good for 8 yr olds to watch. I mean, it was kind of senseless. What could have been a beautiful mystery movie, turned out to be a pathetic SCI-FI horror mixed with some crude jokes and mindless sentimental scenes.

I suggest you not waste your money or time watching it.

If I could give it a zero, I'd change my mind and give it a -10 instead. Absolutely horrible movie with no movie plot, doesn't make sense of what is happening. Just PLAIN BORING. Please don't waste your money on this one. Pleaseee!!! This movie could have done so well if it truly depicted the real zodiac killer's story, but nopes, I didn't feel anything but disgust while watching it. Do yourself a favor and rent some classic movies instead, its better to watch a movie you've already seen like 3-4 times than watch this crap! I don't understand why people even bother to make such movies when they know its not going to do well. Zodiac killer should be called 'Boriac killer' instead!!!

Still Standing (2002–2006)

Hilariously funny!

What most people here who have written bad reviews about this show forget that this is after all JUST A SHOW!! It's meant to entertain and if you start comparing it to real life, you're being too biased. There are parents out there who are more concerned about their own lives, who act a little immature and in fact there is a child in each one of us. This show does take it to the extreme at times but doing it with humor makes it hilariously funny. I never get bored watching this show!! And you won't either. Judy and Bill have excellent chemistry on screen. And they really do not in any way build a bad impression on the viewers. Enjoy it!

Penelope (2006)

Movie with a moral.

***SPOILER ALERT***."Penelope" is a beautiful movie. It teaches you only the very basic. i.e only you have the power to change what lies within you. Many people here argue about the acting, the direction etc. All I cared about what was it had to deliver and it sent across a powerful message. It's a movie watchable by both adults and kids. It had a pretty decent storyline, much like a combination of a fairy tale, real life persona clubbed together with an innocent cute face girl who had absolutely no idea what was happening outside of her own little world. I agree the romance between the main characters was quite weak and wasn't given much time to develop, so one could not feel much involvement there. But I give this movie a 7/10, deserves a break once in a while.

Taken (I) (2008)

Superb fast paced action thriller!

I give this movie a straight 9/10. All I can say is, you need to go and watch it if you haven't already. It's not just some action movie, its got a solid storyline depicting something which is happening for real in today's world. It's sad how so many innocent young women get trafficked each year. It is simply a must see. Although its a PG 13 movie, some scenes may not be suitable for 13 year olds. But it's a movie every parent should watch and be alert with their children. And for others to be aware. The acting is pretty good, although the teenagers did seem to be a little too overexcited (not sure if that's typical of every teen). But the movie is on the move 10 minutes into it. You won't get bored at all!

Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981)

Awesome sequel!

This was an awesome sequel. It was in fact way better than the original Friday the 13th. It had enough tense and suspense scenes to make you scream. Enough gores for those gore lovers out there, good direction and cinematography. It would have been better if this ended up being the first Friday the 13th because the first one did not manage to scare me at all. Most of the Friday the 13th movies have more or less the same plot, kill or be killed. Run, scream, chase, ponder, die. But it would be much more thrilling if they had people live much longer and in fact instead of killing the characters, making them run for their lives. I think thats where the thrill lies and most of the 1980's Friday movies are not very intense and characters are killed almost immediately which can be boring because when you're waiting to be spooked, some guy running his knife across the character's throat in a split second isn't scary but can be funny.

These movies are thoroughly often enjoyed by the teen folk/young adult and why not? It deserves an 8/10!

Friday the 13th (1980)

Boring, predictable and not an intense thriller.

This movie came out almost 30 years ago which makes me feel it does not have much of an effect on people watching the movie nowadays. In 1980 when it first came out it must have been a little better than avg release. But I got the feeling it was a little slow to begin with, characters did not really die very creepily, they were killed one by one, just being knocked out except the last one. But why? Why was Alice spared and given a chance to fight back unlike the others? Only to introduce the killer? That doesn't do much justice. I would rather have had more chasing screaming scenes which would have had me jumping out of my seat. And with the horrifying sounds effects in theaters these days, this movie did not the least bit creep me out. Some of the scenes had bodies being thrown through a window, a guy hanging backwards from something falling suddenly as Alice is running. lol I was laughing on that one. Like a dead guy knows when exactly to drop onto your face and make the audience scream. I just didn't feel it with this movie. I prefer the sequels to this one when Jason enters. He is surely more creepier with his mask. I give it a 4/10.
