Eww!!!
19 November 2005
I really don't get why this movie got an 8.2 out of ten. There is so many awful things to say I don't even know where to start! First of all, the whole thing seemed rushed, although it was better than the previous ones, but there was still something about it that seemed like they were trying to get through it all in time. This also made it seem like it took place in a really short amount of time, much less than a year. But if that was the case? Why did they have so many extra bits? Like the graveyard dream? Or the AWFUL scene where the Beauxbatons and Durmstrang people came into the hall, or the whole flying all over Hogwarts fighting the badly done dragon scene. And they cut so many good parts, like Rita being an Animagus. Plus, they seemed to want to save money by cutting Dobby, the Dursleys, and Mrs. Weasley from the movie Another thing was the LOTR-esquire scene with the music and everything. Oh, and the hero- ifying harry. JK Rowling does that enough in the books. Like having Harry be the only witness to the dark mark? It just seems like they're making him into an even more wonderful, wildly talented saintly person then he really is. Having said all that, I really liked Robert Pattinson as Cedric Diggory, and I adored Ron and the Weasley twins (of course). And this was, hands down, the best HP movie, which says a lot about the other three (what I thought of them, anyway).

failed attempt
2 December 2004
I was pretty disappointed when I went to see The Incredibles, and I think the audience agreed with me. We all laughed and clapped enthusiastically at the short, but at the end of the film, not only was there no clapping, but there were many grumblings. And this was an audience of mostly adults; this was late into the film's theater time. The problem of The Incredibles, I think, was that it was geared towards older people. In Finding Nemo, Monster's Inc, and Toy Story, the attraction was that we were watching a kid's film. There was no sex, mid-life crisis, or other icky adult seriousness. That is what I was expecting in The Incredibles, and I was surprised and disappointed when it was different. The change of audience wasn't the only bad thing about The Incredibles. The ending strongly reminded me of the ending of Lord of the Rings. Much, much too long. One (at least me and my friends) would think, in this type of movie, that Mr. Incredible would defeat the monster, he and his wife would reunite passionately, not sappily, superheroes would be back in business, and maybe as an afterthought the baby would begin to show signs of powers (but not in a huge long thing with the weird kid who used to be known as IncrediBoy). But there were monsters, monsters, and more monsters. The movie ended in an unresolved conflict which is actually really good in some movies. Also, there was just way too much fighting and running and weird, cheesy names.

spoilers

Warning: Spoilers
Of all Pixar's movies, this was probably the worst. What really bugged me about this movie was that the writers really tried to make it appeal to a more adult audience, unlike Finding Nemo, Monster's Inc, or Toy Story. The movie was OK in the beginning, but especially in the end the fighting kept going on and on and on. Even when they had defeated the monster, they kept adding more fight scenes. The short, however, was really funny; the people in the theater clapped for the short but not the movie. I think that The Incredibles should be watched on DVD or VHS, but it wasn't worth my money.

The Forgotten (2004)

???

The Forgotten started out pretty well. It was a good idea. I like horror movies, and I thought that a freaky plot with someone's children being 'forgotten' by everyone except for the main character would be really cool. In the beginning, it was. Julianne Moore did a really good job playing a mother who might be deranged, when she forgets where she parked her car, or where she had coffee. And Anthony Edwards did a good job playing the drunk single guy sitting on a swing. But once the car crash happened, it sort of went from being a really scary movie to a BANG movie, where there are loud noises and you are surprised, but not really scared. And then, when people started being sucked into the air, well, that just ruined it. So, I guess what I'm trying to say, is that The Forgotten had the potential to be a really good movie, but the writers/ directors just changed their minds about it.
