As cinephiles look on to what is anticipated to be an amazing year in film and television, it’s almost unbelievable that two decades have passed since the release of certain 2004 movies. 2004 was packed with several exciting, high box-office-earning sequels, first installments, and standalone films. Most notably, the year presented several blockbusters in several genres. Interestingly, memorable movies like Starsky & Hutch, You Got Served, The Prince & Me, White Chicks, King Arthur, Man on Fire, The Machinist, Catwoman, Kung Fu Hustle, and Hotel Rwanda were all released in 2004. Although 2004 may seem a distant past to a...

It’s been over 20 years since “The Princess Diaries” delighted readers of all ages with its big heart and royal intrigue. 2017 brought the low-budget charms of “The Christmas Prince” onto Netflix (three films and counting). The latest royal romance — based on the beloved bestseller by Casey McQuiston, who executive produces here — is a delight that gives rom-com fans all the trope-y moments they crave: Embarrassing karaoke scenes! Jane Austen references! Declarations of love while wearing a wet shirt due to rain! “Red, White, & Royal Blue” is a hopeful, fresh twist on a genre that should charm both fans of the book as well as anyone who enjoys a frothy love tale.
The story follows Alex Claremont-Diaz (Taylor Zakhar Perez) the son of the current president of the United States and his arch nemesis, England’s Prince Henry (Nicholas Galitzine). At a royal wedding, a literal push comes to shove and...

Summer isn’t over yet but HBO and its streaming arm Max are already moving on to fall. With its list of new releases for August 2023, Max is focusing on football! The American kind, mind you, not the actually footy kind.
August 2023 sees the release of two major football documentaries on HBO and Max. The first is the premiere of Hard Knocks on Aug. 10. The new season of long-running NFL training camp docuseries will center on the New York Jets, new employers of legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers. On Aug. 23, Max will air the aptly named Bs High. The doc tells the stranger-than-fiction story of high school football team Bishop Sycamore, which pulled off one of the more notable sports scams you’re likely to ever hear about.
Not of the football variety but in keeping with the North American sports theme will be season 2 of Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty on Aug.

Exclusive: Gravitas Ventures has acquired North American rights to the WWII-era romantic drama I’ll Find You from director Martha Coolidge. The Anthem Sports & Entertainment company plans to release the title starring Adelaide Clemens (To the Stars), Leo Suter, Stephen Dorff, Connie Nielsen and Stellan Skarsgård in theaters and on demand on February 25.
Inspired by true stories of Polish musicians from the 1930s and 1940s, I’ll Find You centers on the tender, music-infused relationship between Robert (Suter) and Rachel (Clemens) that is forged when the pair meet as music school students—he, a promising singer and she, a violin prodigy. While Robert is torn away from Rachel following the German invasion of Poland, he vows to find her, no matter the cost.
David S. Ward and Bozenna Intrator penned the script for the film, which was shot on location in Poland and New York. Intrator also produced it alongside Lukasz Raczynski, Zbigniew John Raczynski and Fred Roos, with Alexander Roos exec producing.
“I’LL Find You is a beautiful romance film set against the harsh background of World War II,” said Gravitas Ventures’ Manager of Acquisitions, Brett Rogalsky. “What director Martha Coolidge was able to do with these elements is truly impressive, and we’re excited to be able to bring this film to the public.”
“From the beginning I loved the theme in this film that music has an almost magical power to heal,” added Coolidge, “and that it can inspire and move all people even those at opposite ends of the ideological spectrum.”
Coolidge is an Emmy nominee and DGA Award winner who has previously directed films including Material Girls, The Prince and Me, Angie, Lost in Yonkers, Rambling Rose, Plain Clothes, Real Genius and Valley Girl, along with episodes of such series as Siren, Angie Tribeca, Madam Secretary, The Night Shift, Psych and Weeds.
Gravitas Ventures was founded in 2006 and sold to multi-platform media company Anthem Sports & Entertainment in November. Recent releases from the company include Michael Lembeck’s Queen Bees; Gabriela Cowperthwaite’s Our Friend, starring Casey Affleck, Dakota Johnson, and Jason Segel; Vanguard, directed by Stanley Tong and starring Jackie Chan; and Andy Tennant’s The Secret: Dare to Dream, starring Katie Holmes. Gravitas has also recently acquired titles including Adrian Martinez’s feature directorial debut iGilbert; the Kathy Bates drama Home, from writer-director Franka Potente; family adventure film The King’s Daughter, starring Pierce Brosnan; Jason Pollock’s doc Finding Kendrick Johnson; and The Accursed, a horror film marking the feature directorial debut of writer-directors Elizabeta Vidovic and Kathryn Michell.

Eliza Bennett has been cast in the role of Amanda Carrington on The CW’s “Dynasty.”
Bennett joins Season 4 in a recurring guest star role, with her first episode being “The British Are Coming” on Aug. 27. She will be a series regular in the forthcoming fifth season.
The original 1980s primetime soap opera “Dynasty” featured Catherine Oxenberg in the role of Amanda for the first three years of the character’s existence. (Her apt entrance was in the fifth season episode titled “Amanda.”) Karen Cellini stepped in in recasting.

The theatrical industry is still struggling to return to normal, and matters aren’t helped as the studios continue to pull major releases from the calendar and send them to next year. If you haven’t watched Netflix’s “A Christmas Prince” yet, then you’re missing out. It’s not that the movie is really all that good. It’s Ok, but we’ll get back to that in a second. What matters is that this fairy tale rom-com has helped Netflix begin its mission: to steal Christmas from cable networks.
While networks like Lifetime, Freeform, Up, and Ion have been cranking out some holiday rom-coms and programming, Hallmark is the undisputed leader of Christmas fare. The channel began its new original Christmas movies back in October, ruled over the five-day Thanksgiving weekend, and is still making a splash with yuletide movies like “The Christmas Train” and “Switched for Christmas.”

The channel began its new original Christmas movies back in October, ruled over the five-day Thanksgiving weekend, and is still making a splash with yuletide movies like “The Christmas Train” and “Switched for Christmas.”

2015 was a successful year regarding the quantity and quality of foreign productions shot in Poland. At the beginning of the year, Anne Fontaine (“Coco Before Chanel,” “Perfect Mothers”) filmed a French-Polish co-production “Agnus Dei” in Warmia, which premiered at this year's Sundance Film Festival. The film features Polish and French actresses among others Lou de Laage, Agata Kulesza, Agata Buzek and Joanna Kulig.
In the spring, the crew of a Polish-German-French-Belgian co-production about the life of Maria Sklodowska-Curie (dir. Marie Noelle) spent 20 days on the set in among others Lodz, Leba and Krakow. The cast is international, and the film is made in French. The Polish Nobelist is portrayed by Karolina Gruszka (“Oxygen”).
The summer brought about increased activity of German producers. A Zdf TV show, “Ein Sommer in…” was filmed in two resort towns in the north-eastern Poland – Mikolajki and Mragowo. Ard and Tvp collaborated on the set of "Polizeiruf 110" ("Police Call 110"), which was filmed in July and August among others in a Polish border-town – Swiecko. Also in July began the shooting of a new part of detective TV series "Der Usedom-Krimi" filmed on both the Polish and German side of the Usedom island.
However, a true influx of foreign productions took place in the autumn. American-Polish thriller “Chronology” was filmed in Poznan. The cast includes William Baldwin (TV series "Gossip Girl," "Adrift in Manhattan") and Danny Trejo (“Machete,” “From Dusk till Dawn”).
The Goetz Palace in Brzesk, in Malopolska hosted filmmakers from India who for six days were shooting “Fitoor,” an Indian adaptation of Dickens's “Great Expectations.” The crew consisted of over 40 Indians and almost 80 Poles. Another crew from India – this time from the so-called Kollywood in the south of the country – spent twenty days on the set in various Polish locations (among others Zakopane, Walbrzych, Krakow, Leba). The film titled “24” features Surya, a Tamil superstar, in the main role.
The autumn months were also very intensive in Lodz with three simultaneous big film sets. Andrzej Wajda (“The Promised Land,” “Walesa. Man of Hope”) worked on his new film “Powidoki”; Opus Film, the producer of “Ida”, organized for an Israeli partner eleven-day shoot to a film set in 1970s – “Past Life,” directed by Avi Nesher; and American director Martha Coolidge (“The Prince and Me,” TV shows “Sex and the City,” “The Twilight Zone,” “Weeds”) filmed her project “Music, War and Love,” whose producer is among others Fred Roos known from such films as “Apocalypse Now,” “The Godfather” or “Lost in Translation.” The picture features Adelaide Clemens (“The Great Gatsby”), Connie Nielsen (“Gladiator”), Toby Sebastian (“Game of Thrones”) and Stellan Skarsgård (“Nymphomaniac”).
The end of the year was also very successful for Malopolska and Krakow. Two movies were filmed in the region – an American-British biography of Martin Luther commissioned by PBS with Padraic Delaney (“The Wind that Shakes the Barley,” “The Tudors”) in the main role; and a feature titled “True Crimes” starring two-time winner of a Golden Globe – Jim Carrey (“The Truman Show,” “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” “The Mask”) as the protagonist. The crew spent 32 days on the set in Krakow. The picture was directed by Greek Alexandros Avranas (“Miss Violence”), written by Jeremy Brock (“Brideshead Revisited,” “The Last King of Scotland”), and produced by Brett Ratner (“X-Men 3: the Last Stand,” TV series “Rush Hour”). Accompanying Jim Carrey were Charlotte Gainsbourg (“Nymphomaniac,” “Antichrist”); Marton Csokas (“The Lord of the Rings: the Return of the King,” “The Amazing Spider-Man 2”) and Polish actors Agata Kulesza (“Ida”) and Robert Wieckiewicz (“Walesa. Man of Hope”).
The first information about productions planned for 2016 has already been released. In January, Krakow will host the crew of French black comedy “Grand Froid,” Gérard Pautonnier's debut featuring Jean-Pierre Bacri (“The Taste of Others,” “Let It Rain”), Olivier Gourmet (“Rosetta,” “The Son”) and Arthur Dupond (“Bus Palladium”). The project won the first edition of the Krakow International Film Fund.

Cinemax preceded its Thursday (July 10) Television Critics Association press tour panel for the 1900 NYC medical drama "The Knick" by announcing that it has already renewed the series, which won't premiere until August 8. The 10-episode renewal wasn't a huge shock, because "The Knick" is a very important series for Cinemax as it continues its transition from Skinemax to the fun action-fueled destination for shows like "Strike Back" and "Banshee" to the kind of network capable of luring talent like director Steven Soderbergh and star Clive Owen. The fact is that as long as Owen and Soderbergh were willing to be involved in a second season, a renewal was inevitable and it sounds like the not-particularly-retired Oscar winner is, indeed, eager to continue. "Yeah. I’m going to do all ten," Soderbergh said on the panel, responding to a question about the recent trend of TV directors taking extended duty on shows,...

The Thai actor's sword-wielding policeman is one of the nastiest characters in recent cinema
Hi Vithaya, your role in Only God Forgives is one of the creepiest and nastiest in recent cinema. What qualified you for the part?
I run a successful ballet school in Bangkok, my wife is a ballet teacher, and I have managed the school for 19 years.
Oh. So how did you get into acting?
This is how I start my acting career. About five years ago, I went to a party and a cameraman saw me and asked me to act in his short film. I said sure, why not? After that the same cameraman got a job on a Hollywood movie shooting in Thailand. That movie was looking for a character of a king, but the director couldn't find anyone she liked. They said: "Hey, why don't you come in and read the dialogue."That's...

When TLC sent four foreign royals undercover in Atlanta in 2012 to woo women who didn't know about their titles, the resulting reality experiment, "Secret Princes," turned out to be an engaging guilty pleasure (if you believe in such things) that resembled a real-life version of the Julia Stiles early '00s classic teen movie "The Prince and Me."

Eight candidates are led into a room for the final portion of what appears to be a rigorous job application process. They have a piece of paper, and one question before them to answer. They are given explicit instructions on several things that will get them disqualified, including leaving the room. A clock is set eighty minutes and the events of Exam begin. The problem is, when they turn their paper over, it is completely blank.
The candidates soon realize that they will have to work together, at the very least, to figure out what the question is. Of course, this is an application process and "there can only be one", so as the tentative alliance forms it is very clear that their ties to each other aren't much thicker than the blank pieces of paper in front of them.

Fans of Showtime’s serial killer show “Dexter” knows that the show is in need of a new leading lady — so could that leading lady be Julia Stiles? Possibly, says EW, who reports Stiles’s casting in the show’s upcoming Season 5, though they have no further information on her role. EW does seem sure that Stiles won’t be playing a new love interest for Dexter, citing the serial killer/hero’s fresh widower status on the heels of Julie Benz’s exit, but come on, he’s a serial killer, what’s to stop him from jumping right back on the horse? He’s kinda different, you know. Julia Stiles is one of those actresses you’ve seen in a lot of movies because she’s always worked steadily throughout the years, and she’s even fronted a couple of them (“Save the Last Stand”, “The Prince and Me...

Some casting news has just come in for ABC's new supernatural crime drama "The Gates", and we've got the skinny for you. And we guess we've got the fat, too. Never really understood what that whole "the skinny" thing meant, but screw it -- you know what we are talking about!
According to The Hollywood Reporter "Prison Break" alum Frank Grillo has landed the lead in ABC's new series along with Luke Mably, Janina Gavankar, and Chandra West, who have also been cast in the project, which Terry McDonough has come on board to direct.
Written by Richard Hatem and Grant Scharbo, "The Gates" centers on a big city cop (Grillo) who becomes chief of police in a seemingly sleepy planned community only to discover there's much more to the residents than meets the eye. Mably ("The Prince and Me") will play one of the residents, a cardiologist who is a vampirelike creature.

MOSCOW -- Prague-based Stillking Films on Thursday reported a record year for its feature film division, doubling revenue to $348 million in 2003 compared with $168 million in 2002. The boom in foreign features shooting at the Czech facilities was fueled by Eurotrip (DreamWorks), Van Helsing (Universal) and The Prince and Me (Paramount), together with Stillking co-productions Tristan and Isolde (Fox), Alien vs. Predator (Fox) and Sentiment (Bonton), according to the company. Stillking said the upturn proved that Prague remains a top destination for international producers seeking to take advantage of low cost European locations, despite a steep appreciation in the value of local currency and the fall in the value of the U.S. dollar.
