He played Caesar in the Planet of the Apes trilogy, Gollum in The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit films, and the titular character in 2005’s King Kong. However, many fans wouldn’t be aware of his role as a Performance Capture Consultant in Gareth Edwards’ 2014 kaiju film, Godzilla. Serkis explained that it was not a full-on acting role like his other monster roles.

Despite boasting a prolific cast as Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan, the 2015 reboot was highly criticized for its approach towards the story and the depiction of the characters, earning it a spot among the worst superhero films of all time.

The Teen Titans show is one of the most iconic animated offerings from DC. It is in the same league as the studio’s other animated shows such as Batman: The Animated Series and Justice League. Animator Glen Murakami, who also worked on the aforementioned shows, worked on Teen Titans as a showrunner and brought the comic book team to the forefront.
While the Teen Titans began in the ‘60s, the comic book did not gain fame until its ‘80s revival in the form of Marv Wolfman and George Pérez’s The New Teen Titans, by which the show was inspired. Murakami revealed in an interview that DC wanted a do-over from the comics in the show as they were primarily a response to Marvel’s X-Men.

Despite his heroic (and tragic) demise in Stranger Things Season 4, Eddie Munson might not be gone for good. Played by Joseph Quinn, Eddie was a student at Hawkins High School and the unique leader of the Hellfire Club, a group centered around Dungeons & Dragons.

He also rocked out on his electric guitar in his band, Corroded Coffin, and was pals with Dustin Henderson, Lucas Sinclair, and Mike Wheeler. Sadly, Eddie sacrificed himself, but there’s a chance he might come back somehow.
Fans are eagerly speculating about Quinn’s potential return in the final season of Stranger Things, as the actor himself remains tight-lipped about it. But looks like there’s a deeper meaning behind why he is keeping mum.

Fox’s show, which starred Alba as super soldier Max Guevara escaping from government agents in a post-apocalyptic Seattle, was created by James Cameron and Charles H. Eglee and premiered in 2000.
During the second season, Ackles joined the show as Max’s fellow supersoldier, Alec McDowell (X5-494). The actors engaged in a lot of fighting during Dark Angel’s action sequences, but Ackles maintained that the tension between them was even greater off-screen.

Jackman shared his own note, writing, “What a ride!!! I’ve loved every minute of making this movie. Well not the training and diet but the other 93.2%. To the best cast and crew, thank you! You are all aces.”

Snakes ‘n spiders: the two cornerstone big daddies of zoophobic horror. Sure, sharks are classic and rats have had their cinematic moments, but where would the genre be without eight-legged freaks and their slithering, limbless reptile brethren? People tend to fall into two categories – arachnophobic and ophidiophobic – but even if snakes give you the willies, director Sébastien Vaniček’s debut feature will leave you yearning for their cold-blooded embrace after you meet his army of creepy-crawly web-spinners.
Kaleb (Théo Christine) makes ends meet selling sneakers to the denizens of his low-income apartment block. A lover of reptiles, amphibians, and insects, Kaleb can’t resist when he comes across a mysterious spider for sale in a friend’s shop. After taking his new little friend home and placing her in a shoe box, the spider almost immediately escapes and quickly begins laying eggs in the walls and air vents of the building.

The synopsis for Strange Darling really says it all. Written and directed by Jt Mollner the mysterious thriller is “one day in the twisted love life of a serial killer”. Starring Willa Fitzgerald (The Goldfinch) and Kyle Gallner, who genre fans will no doubt recognize from Smile and Jennifer’s Body (just to name a few) Strange Darling is a cat-and-mouse story set over a short period of time, presented in a jumbled fashion like Pulp Fiction or Kill Bill (or any other Quentin Tarantino movie for that matter).
Honestly, the less you know about this one going in, the better. It does have a few cards hidden up its sleeve but the whole bloody affair really hinges on the ever-surprising performances of its two leads. Kyle Gallner is electric in pretty much everything you’ve seen him in and he’s just as engaging a performer here, but Willa...

And instead of going home this year, we’re spending the holidays at an empty boarding school. And doing demonic sacrifices.
Set in the 1970s, The Sacrifice Game opens as the students of a private boarding school are heading home for the holidays. With the exception of Samantha (Madison Baines), whose step-father tells her at the last minute that they are unable to have her return home this year, and Clara (Georgia Acken), the quiet girl of the class who just doesn’t seem to have anywhere to go. Left with their teacher, Rose (Chloe Levine), the group begins to quietly settle in for an odd and uncomfortable Christmas.
Just before dinner, there is a knock at the door.

Pet Sematary has long been one of my absolute favorites. It’s one of my favorite Stephen King books, it’s one of my favorite horror films; in fact it’s the film that got me hooked on horror when I was a kid. The story of a father who falls under the spell of an unearthly piece of land and will do anything to restore his family is one that has held my attention and imagination for years. And though the 2019 adaptation didn’t capture my nightmares the way the 1989 film has, I still thought it was a solid effort that would bring the story to another generation of movie audiences.
Pet Sematary: Bloodlines is a reimagining of the Timmy Bateman story that Jud told Lewis Creed in the original book and earlier films. It is a prequel to the 2019 adaptation, which puts the timeline during the Vietnam War.

There’s a scene in Jt Mollner’s Strange Darling where Ed Begley Jr. makes breakfast. He chars sausages, unsheathes and melts a stick of yellow butter, then cracks a messload of eggs and leaves them to bubble while pouring out thick globs of pancake batter in a second pan. He layers the cakes with the eggs and encased pork meat and yet more butter before drowning the whole thing in whipped cream that promptly starts to liquefy. He places the mess in front of his wife (Barbara Hershey), who comically offsets the caloric mound by placing a single, wimpy red strawberry on top. This scene is almost certainly unintentionally illustrative of Moller’s approach to his sophomore feature: a twisty cat and mouse thriller so overstuffed with delicious elements that it’s constantly on the verge of becoming too much of a good thing.

Opening with an abortive hero’s narration, a flurry of neon, and defenestration via harpoon, writer/director Macon Blair’s re-imagination of Lloyd Kaufman’s legendary shoestring superhero spoof is an energetic good time that nevertheless proves why Mainstream and Tromaville are worlds apart.
Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) radiates put-upon single dad energy as Winston Gooze, a nobody janitor who struggles to keep his moody teenaged stepson (Jacob Tremblay) happy when he’s not mopping up toxic waste for Bth – an irresponsible corporate behemoth with its tentacles in everything from private insurance to banking to “proprietary, cutting edge, bio-boosters” for the health/beauty conscious consumer. Former Wham! band member Shirley Kemp suggested that fans of the late singer George Michael may get the chance to see him again: as a hologram.
Seven years after his death, Michael’s bandmates are feeling inspired by other holographic shows, such as Abba’s, and are toying with the idea of creating their own.
Wham! last performed in 1986 at Wembley Stadium, where they were joined by Sir Elton John. Michael’s last solo performance was in 2012.
The other surviving members of the band, which include Andrew Ridgeley and Helen ‘Pepsi’ DeMacque-Crockett, are on board with Kemp’s idea.
“My thinking would be, ‘Fantastic!’ To have Wham! at its pomp playing live,” said Ridgeley on Newsnight.
He did acknowledge potential ethical challenges that a holographic concert may pose.
“Of course, there are ethical questions. And that decision would be a mutual decision between myself and [Michael’s] estate, should it ever come to it…...

Unabashed pop groups with fervid teenage followings tend to get trivialized, at least in the media. They’re dismissed as being slick and calculated and superficial. But there’s a story in “Wham!,” the new Netflix documentary about the quintessential pop duo of the 1980s, that testifies to what a chancy and audacious artist George Michael was even back in his teen-idol days.
The year is 1983. Michael and Andrew Ridgeley, coming off their first album, “Fantastic”, have established Wham! as an effective lightweight pop machine, with its two young stars prancing around the stage in sexy sportswear. The time has come to record “Careless Whisper,” a song they’ve had in their back pocket for several years (we hear the super-early demo version of it that they recorded in 1981 in Ridgeley’s living room on a Teac 4-track Portastudio). Michael has become enough of a powerhouse to hook up with Jerry Wexler,...

The latest all-singing version of Matilda, now on Netflix, joins an impressive library of thoughtful film versions of seminal kids’ books, from Paddington to Kes
The common wisdom that “the book is usually better than the film” is as true of children’s literature as of its adult counterpart: cinema is stacked with adaptations of children’s classics that may be perfectly proficient, but haven’t the inspired individuality of the works at their source.
Devotees of Roald Dahl have learned this a lot over the years. His offbeat humour and offhand storytelling style, so irresistible to kids, rarely translates all the way to screen — it’s thwarted such titans as Steven Spielberg, who whiffed with The Bfg (Netflix), though Wes Anderson’s droll Fantastic Mr Fox succeeded by inventing eccentricities of its own. Best of all, Nicolas Roeg’s very adult sense of the macabre proved a delicious fit...

Mila Kunis is shutting down rumors that she will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
When host James Corden asked her during Wednesday’s episode of The Late Late Show if she’s going to be playing Susan Storm in the upcoming Fantastic Four film, the That ’70s Show actress responded, “Apparently, if you go to lunch with somebody that is also in the industry, you then start working together, according to the internet.
After going to a deli with director Matt Shakman one day, she explained, “the next day I was somehow in Fantastic Four.”
Although the Luckiest Girl Alive star isn’t going to be in the reboot, she did note that she does “know who is.” But Kunis didn’t share any more details, because “I don’t want to get in trouble with The Mouse [Disney executives], so none of you will find out.”

Ari Aster, the horror maestro behind Hereditary and Midsommar, is out with Beau Is Afraid on four screens as A24 presents the film in LA (AMC Century City and Burbank) and New York, in Imax on both coasts, followed next week by a regional Imax expansion and into to a wider national rollout April 21.
The film is getting some love from Martin Scorsese, who will join Aster in conversation Monday night after an Imax showing in NYC. Opening weekend will feature Q&As with Aster and cast, which includes Nathan Lane, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Patti LuPone, Amy Ryan and Parker Posey.
The director has a dedicated fan base, and that’s invaluable in looking to break out with the specialty market still tentative compared with the Super Mario Bros-sized rebound of the broader box office. Presales indicate a strong debut.

Amazon Studios has its eye on the prize for The Pick Up, a new film project with Eddie Murphy circling the lead role. The project is from director Tim Story, with John Davis and John Fox producing through Davis Entertainment. In addition to eyeing the lead, Murphy is in talks to produce alongside Charisse Hewitt-Webster through Eddie Murphy Productions.
The Pick Up is being developed from a spec script by Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider, with Story also lined up to produce. The package is going for big bucks, with bids for the script climbing to seven figures. According to Deadline, sources close to the project say The Pick Up is a heist comedy with Bad Boys vibes. With eight seasons and 224 episodes, there is no shortage of content for Dance Moms fans to enjoy. Though the show officially ended years ago, it still has a pretty impressive viewership. Lifetime (the network that the show is home to) often airs reruns of the dance competition show. Furthermore, since most seasons of the show are currently streaming on Hulu, Dance Moms is frequently finding new audiences. However, even diehard fans may have trouble tracking down one specific episode. Season 2, Episode 9 is nearly impossible for fans to watch legally.

Whenever a new casting announcement is made in the MCU, the wild speculation begins immediately, and that was certainly the case for William Jackson Harper in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.” For many, the hope was that he’d be introduced as Reed Richards, leader of the Fantastic Four. And for what it’s worth, the “Good Place” actor would be open to that — but the idea admittedly terrifies him.
In reality, Harper ended up playing Quaz, an entirely new character, with no basis in the comics. Quaz is a telepath who lives in the quantum realm, and is part of the freedom fighters working to escape the rule of Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors). And really, Harper was totally fine with that; he was just happy to see the inner workings of a Marvel movie.
That said, he certainly did see the rumors and hopes of him playing Reed...

Pairing wine with movies! See the trailers and hear the fascinating commentary for these movies and many more at Trailers From Hell. This week, we look back fondly at the late Raquel Welch. We will also lift a glass to her with a wine pairing for each of these films in which she graced the screen. However, my personal favorite Raquel moment is when she showed her comedic chops on television – playing a diva’d up version of herself on Seinfeld.
The movie that put Ms. Welch on the map was One Million Years BC, back in 1966. Never mind the anachronisms – humans and dinosaurs did not roam the earth together. But if they did, the humans surely would have been dressed in fur bikinis. Standing around ogling the females, though, would still get you branded as a neanderthal from the Rock tribe.

This post contains spoilers for "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania."
In both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Marvel movies produced by other studios like Sony and Fox, there's a long history of bungling if not outright butchering great comic book villains. The Marvel Comics version of M.O.D.O.K. isn't in the same league as classic Fantastic Four baddies like Doctor Doom and Galactus, or top-tier X-Men villains like Apocalypse and Sabretooth. However, M.O.D.O.K. has been floating around in his Doomsday Chair — the hoverchair that supports the weight of his head — since 1967, and he's at least enough of a power player to have spawned his own stop-motion animated series, where he was voiced by comedian Patton Oswalt.
M.O.D.O.K. now joins the ranks of all the other poorly realized Marvel movie villains of the 2000s courtesy "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," which has made a live-action mess of him.

Utopia has acquired the North American rights to writer-director Kristoffer Borgli’s cultural satire Sick of Myself.
The nihilistic romantic comedy, which screened at Cannes as part of the Un Certain Regard section, portrays a self-absorbed young woman, played by Kristine Kujath Thorp, making herself sick to attract attention and one-up her artist boyfriend (Eirik Sæther).
Sick of Myself will next play at the 2022 edition of Fantastic Fest.
“I wrote this Norwegian script after I had just moved to the U.S., and even though it’s a story about a very specific Oslo environment, I must have been influenced by my immediate surroundings because the film seems almost more relatable for American audiences,” Borgli said in a statement.
“I’m therefore very excited to partner with Utopia for U.S. distribution, to bring the movie back to where it was written,” the director added.

John Krasinski is bursting out of “The Quiet Place” and spilling his hot tea take on “The Office.”
The beloved NBC comedy series, which concluded in 2013, launched the careers of Mindy Kaling, B.J. Novak, Krasinski, and catapulted Steve Carell into new heights. Yet Krasinski cleared up how he really views lovable prankster Jim Halpert, his character on the hit show.
During an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Krasinski joked, “They’re onto me because I played it as a supervillain,” citing a Movie Web article asking if Jim is the real baddie for the sitcom.
“That’s why I did ‘Fantastic Four’ — to balance it out,” Krasinski said. “I had already done the villain.”
Umm, excuse us?

After making a surprise cameo in "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness," fans haven't stopped talking about whether or not John Krasinski's role as Reed Richards, aka Mister Fantastic, would earn him an official spot in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And during Krasinski's July 26 appearance on "The Tonight Show," host Jimmy Fallon wasted no time bringing it up. "You were Reed Richards from 'Fantastic Four.' Mister Fantastic. We all freaked out. The audience I was in, everyone was like, 'What? We Love This - We Love You!'" Fallon told the actor and filmmaker.
Since Krasinski's cameo, Marvel has announced a "Fantastic Four" movie set for a November 2024 release. While Krasinski's Richards was quickly shredded (literally) by Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch in the "Doctor Strange" film, viewers are still holding out hope for him to reprise the role. Fallon addressed some of these rumors, with...

“Mission: Impossible — Fallout” is probably the last major blockbuster release of the summer. We’ve survived two Marvel Studios films, a Dwayne Johnson explosion-fest, a Pixar masterpiece, and a big dumb dinosaur adventure in a mansion. All that’s left is Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt jumping out of airplanes, shooting guns, and running…a lot. And judging by the early social media reactions to this sixth “Mission: Impossible” installment, it appears that the action star still has a lot left in the proverbial tank.
