Larson and directed by Deadpool 2‘s David Leitch, the Universal Pictures film follows the story of Colt Seavers, a Hollywood stuntman who returns to work after taking a year-long break due to an injury. Colt’s latest gig is at a high-budget blockbuster sci-fi film directed by his ex-girlfriend who he still loves and when the main actor of her film disappears, Colt must find him and bring him back. As attention turns to the Oscars around this time every year, it’s easy to get caught up remembering some of the big winners. One of the most notable champs was The Silence of the Lambs, which took home the “Big Five” awards in 1992: Best Picture, Best Actor (Anthony Hopkins), Best Actress (Jodie Foster), Best Director (Jonathan Demme), and Best Adapted Screenplay (Ted Tally), as well as Best Sound Mixing and Best Film Editing to round it out.
And despite owning the film rights to works of author Thomas Harris, super-producer Dino De Laurentiis saw none of that windfall, be it Oscar gold or box office riches. How could a savvy Hollywood player, responsible for making some of the most important movies of all time, make such a wild mistake?

"Suits" continues to have a monumental run over on Netflix, having just eclipsed "Ozark" for the record of most consecutive weeks at number one at the top of the Nielsen ratings. During the show's initial nine-season run on USA Network, the legal drama's popularity attracted a number of actors who helped share the spotlight with the core cast to help bolster ratings and fill in new storylines. Throughout the series, appearances from legendary athletes like Charles Barkley and Michael Phelps ended up happening after both of them made it clear that they were huge fans of the show on social media. Adding fresh faces to interact with the cast isn't always a slam dunk, however, and a quick cameo from the wrong actor or celebrity could end up throwing off the natural chemistry and subtle alchemy between the main stars of the show.
Thankfully, "Suits" or its spinoff show "Pearson" never ran into that problem,...

After the debacle that was Batman & Robin, George Clooney needed to find the kind of role that would rehabilitate his reputation as an actor. He found it in Steven Soderbergh’s Out of Sight, a crime comedy adapted from a novel by Elmore Leonard. In Out of Sight, Clooney led an outstanding ensemble cast that included Jennifer Lopez, Don Cheadle, Catherine Keener, Albert Brooks, Ving Rhames, Nancy Allen, and Dennis Farina. It turned out to be a good career move for Clooney — the movie got fantastic reviews and, although it wasn’t a huge box-office hit at the time, has become a cult classic over the years. When Out of Sight was released in 1998, Clooney walked us through the process that resulted in him starring in the film. This past summer, as Hollywood faced its second major strike, the president of actors union SAG-AFTRA took the podium. She was without makeup, she was raspy and she was pissed. Gone was the ozone-shattering hairspray and the wild prints plucked right from the zoo. Nowhere in earshot was the dog whistle voice and the dolphin laugh. This was Fran Drescher: not the street-smart bimbo of somehow successful sitcoms and expectedly by-the-numbers romances, but the woman who will do anything to show her loyalty and not back down from anything. She had done it throughout her career through battles with industry execs and cancer, and now she was doing it against some of the biggest names in Hollywood.
Wtf Happened to…Fran Drescher?

TV loves itself some mobsters. There’s no getting around it. From Tony Soprano to Nucky Thompson to Frank “The Fixer” Tagliano, we’re enchanted by the bad guys and what they bring to the table. Shows like “The Sopranos,” “Peaky Blinders” and “Boardwalk Empire” – as well as “The Untouchables” in the early 1960s – have captivated us and generated plenty of awards attention in the bargain.
And now here comes another show with malice in its heart, if a wink in its eye, looking to compete for some Emmy attention: “Tulsa King,” the Paramount+ series that launched its first season last November and is plotting to enter production on season two soon (likely early this summer). It’s a crime dramedy set in Tulsa, Oklahoma that stars Sylvester Stallone in his first scripted starring role on TV.

Since its premiere in 1990, "Law & Order" has become the gold standard of police procedurals. It was by no means the first police procedural, but it is perhaps the most recognizable. True to its genre, each episode of this series features a crime that must be solved by detectives and prosecuted by the District Attorney's office. Although some storylines are original ideas, many take inspiration from high-profile cases, larger-than-life criminals, and current events within the U.S. justice system.
After three decades and counting, fans can enjoy over 400 episodes and 22 seasons of their favorite procedural. It's a massive chunk of television to sift through, but some parts of the series are more worthwhile than others. From unbearable characters to stale plots, the worst seasons of "Law & Order" are full of frustrating departures from the series' tried-and-true formula. Unsolved Mysteries has been airing, off and on, presented in different styles and by different hosts, for thirty-five years at this point. It all began with specials hosted by Raymond Burr, Karl Malden, and Robert Stack in 1987, followed by a series that went for several years with Stack as the host. (And Virginia Madsen being added as co-host eventually.) Dennis Farina hosted a revival that lasted a few years. And now a new version of the show that doesn’t have a host is set up at the Netflix streaming service. We’ve been watching and being disturbed by episodes of Unsolved Mysteries for a long time – and you can find out what we have to say about the Stack era of show in the new episode of the Horror TV Shows We Miss video series. Law & Order’s newest detective will bring a new perspective to the series.
Showrunner Rick Eid shared how Mehcad Brooks will shift up Law & Order when he joins in Season 22.
His character, Detective Jalen Shaw, will debut in the big three-part crossover of the Law & Order shows that kick off the season on September 22.
Eid is now detailing more of Shaw’s background and what drove him to become a cop. That includes the revelation he was originally going to be a lawyer.
While circumstances drove him to the police force, Shaw is trying his best as a cop to maintain justice in his own way.
This promises some dramatic developments for the character and Brooks himself is eager to bring a new change to the show.

There’s no doubt that a sequel to Snatch would be welcomed by a lot of fans, but the problem is that one has to wonder what the story would be since a lot of things were concluded at the end of the first one. One point is that Vinnie Jones, the same guy that’s pulling for the sequel, no longer had a character since the implication is that Bullet Tooth Tony was killed by accident while Cousin Avi, played by Dennis Farina, was trying to get the dog that had swallowed the diamond that was one of the main plot

Charlie Robinson, a prolific actor who played the clerk on Night Court for most of the NBC sitcom’s run and before that was a regular on its lauded series Buffalo Bill, died Sunday of cancer complications at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. He was 75.
His manager, Lisa Disante, told Deadline that Robinson died of cardiac arrest with multisystem organ failures due to septic shock, and metastatic adenocarcinoma.
Robinson racked up more than 125 TV and film credits — including an impressive five series-regular roles — during a half-century career that stretched into 2021. Exclusive: Mindful that David Mamet gave me the best quote I’ve ever gotten in 30 years of trade reporting, I have been chasing him down to try to get him to answer a question on my mind. What does it feel like for a great writer of dialogue to have an actor like the late Sean Connery — who won his only Oscar with the Mamet-scripted Brian De Palma-directed drama The Untouchables — elevate the words like Connery did as the rough and tumble Irish cop Jim Malone? Or, for that matter, when Alec Baldwin and the other stellar stars turned Glengarry Glen Ross in a master class in toxic testosterone.
But when you talk to him, Mamet is like his best plays and scripts: unpredictable. That was the case back in my Daily Variety days, when I got Mamet on the phone to discuss the abrupt exit of actor Jeremy Piven...

Netflix will deliver more unexplained disappearances, tragic events and bizarre occurrences starting in the fall.
The streamer has set an October 19 launch date for the remaining six episodes of Unsolved Mysteries’ first season. The initial half-dozen episodes of the rebooted series premiered July 1 on Netflix.
Produced by Cosgrove/Meurer Productions — which created the long-running original series — and Stranger Things EP Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps Entertainment (Stranger Things), Unsolved Mysteries posits that “perhaps one viewer holds the key to solving these cases.”
The tales are rooted in the experiences of ordinary people who have lived the unthinkable — from the trauma of a loved one’s unexplained disappearance or horrific death to the shock of a bizarre paranormal encounter. Alongside detectives and journalists, family members offer clues, present theories, and identify suspects, hoping one viewer holds the key to solving the mystery.

The O.G. of TV true crime has returned. Before there was Making a Murderer, Tiger King, The Jinx, and Serial, the nation’s fix for real-life murder tales came in weekly doses courtesy of Unsolved Mysteries, which ran interrupted from 1987 to 2002. Since the series left airwaves, the genre has grown into a powerhouse: Some networks dedicate their entire programming slate to it (hi, Oxygen), and streaming services rely on true-crime for viral hits.
Yet, 33 years after its debut, old episodes of Unsolved Mysteries remain a profoundly bingeable experience, thanks...

In 1987, host Robert Stack informed and frightened a generation as host of the series “Unsolved Mysteries.” Using both re-enactments with actors (including a pre-fame Matthew McConaughey) and Stack’s sonorous voice, viewers were told two stories a week, ranging from murders and abductions, to the reunification of families, to supernatural examinations of haunted houses and ghosts.
Every week I watched, I’d be frightened — and inspired that I, too, could help solve a mystery. The series changed networks and timeslots before being canceled in 2002; Robert Stack passed away in 2003. A short-lived reboot hosted by Dennis Farina ran from 2008 to 2010. The afterlife has been kind to the original show; there was a syndicated run Lifetime; it is available on PlutoTV; updated episodes are streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
So when Netflix announced another reboot, it came with a lot of baggage already attached. This new version of “Unsolved Mysteries” certainly tries...

This Unsolved Mysteries review contains no spoilers.
Unsolved Mysteries Season 1
The Netflix rebooted series Unsolved Mysteries could really use someone like Robert Stack to lead audiences through these mysterious cold cases. He may not have been the biggest named crime-fighting icon, but he brought his Elliot Ness from the original The Untouchables to the scene. He also brought his trench coat. True crime shows are coming from all directions, and most of them follow a similar pattern which was laid out by Unsolved Mysteries. What set it apart were that voice and that trench coat.
Stack hosted the groundbreaking investigative series between 1987 and 2002. It was also hosted by Raymond Burr, Karl Malden, Virginia Madsen and Dennis Farina. No one quite brought the suspenseful gravitas Stack did. He added an element which the new series sorely needs: spookiness and gravelly innuendo. He knew how to make your fingers clutch the edge of the sofa in suspense.

Comedy legend and TV pioneer Carl Reiner died at 98, according to Variety. His assistant, Judy Nagy, said he was with his family when he died of natural causes at his home in Beverly Hills on Monday night.
Reiner was one of the true greats. He helped shape comedy on television from the early golden era. Filmed comedy would not be the same without him. Even standup comedy owes him a great debt. There are sandwiches named after him in kosher delis around the world. Reiner was always beloved, and forever acting. He was instantly popular from the moment he appeared on Sid Caesar’s Your Show of Shows in 1950. He and Mel Brooks brought a party gag to national prominence they created the “2,000 Year Old Man” routine. He was veteran conman Saul Bloom in Steven Soderbergh’s Ocean’s Eleven movie franchise, played Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer’s stepfather on Two and a Half Men.

News of the death of Danny Aiello rippled across social media on Friday morning as friends, co-stars, peers and admirers of the 86-year-old character actor shared their thoughts on a body of work that included Do the Right Thing, Moonstruck, The Purple Rose of Cairo, Jacob’s Ladder and Madonna’s music video for “Papa Don’t Preach.”
Aiello’s Oscar-nominated performance as Salvatore “Sal” Frangione in Spike Lee’s incendiary 1989 classic Do the Right Thing was mentioned most frequently, a testament to the film’s trenchant achievements and Aiello’s compelling portrait of a pizzeria owner vexed by the changing demographics of his Brooklyn neighborhood.
Aiello’s screen career was launched by the 1973 sports drama Bang the Drum Slowly, which also starred a newcomer named Robert De Niro. Aiello joined De Niro for a notable follow-up, when both appeared in Francis Ford Coppola’s Best Picture Oscar winner The Godfather Part II,...

Most true professional actors will tell you that acting is not a job, it’s a calling. However, all roads to professional acting are not created equal. Not everyone is granted the opportunity to attend the Yale School of Drama or be educated at The Royal Shakespeare Company. But whereas acting techniques can be learned, a passion for acting cannot be taught. Do you want to become an actor but are not classically trained? Do you think you are too old? Do not despair. Some of the finest actors of recent memory did not go to school for acting and led

Netflix is rebooting classic true crime/paranormal series Unsolved Mysteries with Stranger Things Ep Shawn Levy
It was only a matter of time that the true crime renaissance would lead back to Unsolved Mysteries, one of the paragons of the genre. Now that time is here with Netflix announcing that it will reboot the classic true crime and paranormal documentary series with the help of Stranger Things executive producer Shawn Levy.
According to Deadline, the new series will contain 12 episodes and like the original, will cover a bevy of real life cases from mysterious crimes to the paranormal. Levy and his 21 Laps Entertainment imprint (which has had a busy week with Netflix) will oversee the new project with the help of Cosgrove-Meurer Productions, the production company for the first run of Unsolved Mysteries run by John Cosgrove and Terry Dunn Meurer. One of my favorite shows to watch when I was growing up was the Robert Stack-hosted true crime and paranormal series Unsolved Mysteries. I was fascinated by that show, and I’ve recently been watching episodes again on Amazon Prime.
I’m excited to report that Netflix is looking to revive the series! Stranger Things director and producer Shawn Levy is behind the revival. and he will be overseeing the revamp.
Deadline revealed that this will be a 12-part show that, like the original, “will use re-enactments in a documentary format to profile real-life mysteries and unsolved crimes, lost love, cases involving missing persons and unexplained paranormal events.” Each of the episodes will focus on one mystery.

Netflix is bringing back the true crime/paranormal series “Unsolved Mysteries.”
The revival is being led by the show’s original creators, alongside “Stranger Things” executive producer Shawn Levy. Terry Dunn Meurer is showrunning this new version that she co-created with John Cosgrove, who will executive produce. Levy and Josh Barry are executive producing for 21 Laps. Robert Wise will also serve as co-executive producer and showrunner.
Per Netflix, this modern take on the classic series will maintain the chilling feeling viewers loved about the original, while also telling the stories through the lens of a premium Netflix documentary series. Each episode will focus on one mystery and once again will look to viewers to help aid investigators in closing the book on long outstanding cases. It will run for 12 episodes.

Exclusive: Unsolved Mysteries is back after Netflix revived the long-running true crime and paranormal franchise.
The series, which was hosted by Robert Stack and ran for over 500 episodes between 1987 and 2010, is being refreshed by Stranger Things Ep Shawn Levy and his company 21 Laps Entertainment and Netflix.
I hear that Levy is overseeing the revamp in association with Cosgrove-Meurer Productions, the original production company run by the show’s creators John Cosgrove and Terry Dunn Meurer. The latter will show run the series with Cosgrove, Levy and Josh Barry as exec producers. Robert Wise is co-exec producer and showrunner with Dunn Meurer.
The 12-part show will use re-enactments in a documentary format to profile real-life mysteries and unsolved crimes, lost love, cases involving missing persons and unexplained paranormal events. Each episode will focus on one mystery. In the original series, actors played the victims, criminals and witnesses but family members and police were regularly interviewed.

Happy National Paranormal Day to all of the occult lovers out there! Even if the public's obsession with the paranormal is all year round, we thought it'd be best to pay homage to this spooky day by breaking down one of TV's most bone chilling shows ever. Having first aired in 1987, Unsolved Mysteries, originally hosted by Robert Stack and later hosted by Dennis Farina, has been captivating audiences for decades. Why? Because nobody does ghost stories like they do. Check out the seven best below and be warned — it's best to watch with the lights on.

Throughout Unsolved Mysteries' long run on TV, one host stood out: Robert Stack. The late actor, sportsman, and television host served as the face (and voice!) behind the true crime show from 1987 to 2002. It began its run on NBC as a series of specials before turning into a full-fledged series on CBS for ten seasons. After its 1999 cancellation, it returned to Lifetime with an addition 103 episodes before Robert's passing in 2003. But, even though the show hasn't produced new episodes years, it still airs in syndication. So, naturally, people are curious about Robert's career and life because viewers are continually learning about the true crime mysteries years after they initially aired. (Photo Credit: Getty Images) However, if you're watching Unsolved Mysteries in 2018 — there's a good chance you will watch a host that isn't Robert as well. The late Raymond Burr and Karl Malden presented the show alongside Robert in 1987. Later,...

Chicago is a “that guy” kind of town, its very history shaped by political machines and criminal syndicates whose leaders all resembled character actors of one type or another. It’s also home to venerable ensemble theater companies such as Steppenwolf and improv comedy institutions like Second City, which has made it a crucible of talent that’s produced scene stealers on screens big and small. Mind you, Chicago and its suburbs have produced plenty of big stars with local roots—your Harrison Fords, your John Malkoviches, your John Cusacks, your Jennifer Hudsons, your, uh, Jim Belushis. But our metropolis of underdogs has a deep self-identification with the perpetually second- and third-billed, the sort of hometown pride that could make Dennis Farina a bona fide local celebrity and inspire a popular Italian beef joint to plaster pictures of Joe Mantegna on its wall. As part of The A.V. Club...

It’s been 16 years since Guy Ritchie’s London crime story, “Snatch,” first debuted in the U.S., and, while the black comedy pulled in a decent sum, its primary accomplishment was of a cult fandom (and earning Guy Ritchie a shot at the big time). With that in mind, I don’t feel too bad for only remembering a few key moments from a film built on a sharp wit and distinct characters:
Alan Ford’s thick, creepy glasses; Dennis Farina’s crass American foil to all those classy Brits; Jason Statham proving he can do more than just beat the hell out of his co-stars; the tragic fate of Benicio del Toro’s Franky Four Fingers; and, of course, the sole iconic element of Ritchie’s first major studio film (aside from ultra slo-mo fight scenes): Brad Pitt’s gibberish-spouting gypsy boxer with a devastating right hook,...

I first became acquainted with director Peter Medak’s work in 1983 when I saw his 1980 masterwork The Changeling, one of the most frightening ghost stories shot in color. Also known for 1972’s The Ruling Class and 1990’s The Krays, Mr. Medak made the film noir Romeo is Bleeding, shot in 1992 and released on Friday, February 4, 1994. The film is told in an elliptical narrative fashion, starting with the end and going back in time to show us how the protagonist got to where he is. We first see Jack Grimaldi in a dilapidated diner, his voiceover indicative of a man full of regrets who is probably in the Witness Protection Program and forced to lead a life bereft of any true purpose or feeling. Once upon a time, he was a police officer in New York City and his partners are comprised of actors we know well today:...

The show produced three “Star Wars” homages (2007’s “Blue Harvest,” 2009’s “Something, Something, Something Dark Side” and 2010’s “It’s a Trap!”) several years ago. But that was back before Disney acquired Lucasfilm and jumpstarted the franchise.
