"I still have one more gift to wrap..."
CulvertonSmith2 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The best episode of this season yet, I loved it. All of these different elements are so masterfully balanced, in a way that I worried wasn't possible. There are so many pitfalls this thing could've hit (with Harrison's character in particular) that are expertly dodged. I'm in awe of how well they pulled this one off. What's also so quintessentially "Dexter" about this episode is how much hope the show gives you that things could work out, before ultimately giving us a cold reminder that nothing ends well for Dexter Morgan. This was an excellently executed episode, and I'm excited (yet nervous) to see where it all leads. Next week's installment seems likely to be the FINAL final episode of Dexter, so here's hoping they can pull it off as well as they have this whole season!

Best episode of the season, and the best Dexter Episode since S7
Dannyboi943 January 2022
The Family Buisness was a brilliant episode. The first 10-15 minutes of this episode had me smiling from ear to ear. Seeing the flashbacks with the music was just.... It's been so long since we've seen this with Dexter.

Most of this episode follows Dexter and Harrison as they bond and start the "Family Buisness". It was a rollercoaster from start to finish with amazing acting by both actors.

With only one episode left, I hope to god there is another season. There is no way they can wrap everything up in one episode. There needs to be at least another 1 or 2, but no more than that, we don't want a repeat of last time. But if this is the end, and Dexter gets taken down by some small time cop, the ending will be awful. But I don't think it will be. They wouldn't have brought this legendary character back to end on a bad note. They have something good planned.

Come on....
asterblasterth2 January 2022
....give the guy a 'and they lived happily ever after'. He deserves it. Like I thought, the previous episode was just an interlude to a great finale and a great finale it is. There were a couple of moments in this episode that didn't add up but that would be nitpicking. It's yet another great episode from a great season. Now let's see how they are going to finish it off.

You bring season 2 , that's it idc

Warning: Spoilers
To all the people who are finding faults and holes and whatever , M happy that the show returned with main character , awesome cast and beautiful cinematography. Anything is better than Game Of Thrones final part. I am tired of one guy always saying its bad or it needs to stop, quality destroys with time.

Yada yada

n the long run Harrison will suffer & he will remember this incident . He ll find trouble in his mind, doubting his father . We just have to wait and see whether he's going to be a successor or a better human being.

The episode kept many secrets which is worthy of discussion with fans. The acting was tremendous and there was that little look to the past , the transition was prefect when we finally saw it was how Dexter was explaining everything to Harrison. Smooth , sick and freeaking awesome for a show. The music was perfectly chosen to fit a scene & the best part is trouble is not over for Dexter. You better play this smart , director . Except that I Absolutely love it! Everyone casted for this season are perfect , I hope they stay , everyone & i mean it.

I knew all along that it'd be such a perfect season

Warning: Spoilers
This might be the first time I felt sympathy towards Harrison who's learning very willingly the code of Dexter's father. Dexter does not force anything on him. He's a natural. Like father, like son. Their conversation by the fireplace and in the woods were phenomenal. The Dark Passenger have finally found a companion of his own blood. The hall of mummies and their first kill together were all splendid. However, the bad thing is Angela knows Dexter killed Kurt's son.

Did we all watch the same episode?
NicoleL884 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Had to leave a review because there's a few too many saying things like "I love how Dexter and Harrison got so close" - "Harrison never looked at Dexter like a monster" etc.

Did we all watch the same episode? It's clear there's a set up now that Harrison will either turn Dexter in, or kill him himself. They *were* close until Harrison watched how Dexter enjoyed toying with Kurt before he murdered him. Harrison saw the enjoyment Dexter got from the act, and since many didn't notice, this is the only episode where we actually see Dexter dismember a body in gory detail, showing us that Dexter really is a monster. Only one that we seem to keep rooting for. The camera kept cutting (pun only half intended) to Harrison while this whole scene played out and it clearly conveyed that he was trying to put on a brave face and justify the murders "you've saved thousands of lives", but realised that he was way in over his head, that his father is a murderer just like Trinity, and that that's going to be Harrison's fate, unless he turns Dexter in and changes his own ways.

Dexter indeed made a mistake revealing everything to Harrison and it's going to come back to bite him next episode. As much as I love Dexter, he simply doesn't deserve a "happily ever after", nor should this reboot have a second season. It would defeat the purpose of why it was brought was to begin with: to give a satisfactory ending to Dexter.

As stated above, Harrison will either turn him in, or kill him. Perhaps even both. I feel it wouldn't be right to let Dexter get away with his crimes again.

But wasn't Dexter shot in the leg last week? And not a lot of time has passed since the last episode. But he's walking around fine, and carrying out business as usual? Plot hole?

Best Episode of New Blood
bbevis-479542 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Finally as I thought the best was saved for the end of Dexter New Blood. Harrison finally knows most of the truth behind Dexter, for better and worse. This episode was extremely uncomfortable in a sick and twisted way that Dexter does best. Harrison watching Dexter remove Kurt's limbs was nauseating. Its interesting to see how Dexter believes himself to be some hero to his son. As if revealing the truth will somehow save him and that everything is okay. Harrison is more traumatized than Dexter may understand. The sight of blood has the opposite reaction for Harris than it has for Dexter and it will be interesting to see what Harris's outcome is in the finale. I do wish Dexter's reveal to Harrison played out two episodes sooner because I feel the finale will be rushed. Angela finally figuring everything out behind Dexter still seems a little too easy, but it's nice the writers are finally pushing the pacing forward. The Family Business was a dark-gory episode of Dexter and it sets up the finale to hopefully deliver a gut puncher of an ending.

The Code Rule Nr. 1: Don't get caught!
Shadowboy_25cm3 January 2022
Ten years have passed, fans were unsatisfied with the final 8th season of "Dexter" and Showtime understood that some adjustments had to be done, but also, that there are still a fanbase and interrest in this show.

Now, Dexter is back, episode 9 and it's nearly a perfect episode.

I won't spoiler, that wouldn't be fair for the first view experience of this fine episode.

I loved the black humor, I loved the tension throughout the whole episode, I loved the soundtrack and the classic Dexter theme right at the perfect point, I loved the main key scenes of this episode and I loved the cliffhanger.

A tale of morality, justice and family traditions is getting its culmination in this great episode.

Too bad, it's the penultimate episode of this season.

Absolute great episode.

Highly recommended.

Watch and enjoy it.

One of the best tv episodes ever
grahamnea3 January 2022
Wow. I am speechless. What an amazing piece of television. They really have built this story together so well. I was sceptical before Dexter came back how it would be but my word they have blown this out of the park. I never wanted to be able to watch the next episode of a show ever, can't wait to see how this ends but my god I hope they do more series after.

The 101st trophy!
cjonesas20 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 9: The jumbo continues in a familial way with Kurt burning down Dexter's house and Dexter in turn, doing what he does best and sending Kurt to whatever place he belongs.

The flow of this episode was just a little better to a poor Dexter: New Blood season and so far who I care for the most is Angela who is having the bad luck of being Dexter's love interest and having a daughter who's so madly in love about Dexter'son Harrison!

One episode left and you can be pretty sure that the brilliant writers would mess it up in the next episode.

Unless they plan a second season more marvelous than this one, an unrushed 13 episodes was better suited to slowly, carefully and adequately develop and wrap things up!

poorest writing ever
hakra111 January 2022
How did our superheroe recover from the bullet in the leg the day before? The car accident? What happened to the car and the blood around there? The storytelling is an insult to all the viewers and dexter-fans... on a logical level we are even lower than the bad number 8.... everything soooooo obvious... its really painful.. and a pity what happened to this once so great show.

Brilliant episode, best by far and an epic culmination to the season setting up for a very interesting finale.
EddyTheMartian0072 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Last episode was very worrying. Thankfully this episode was a massive improvement and quenched my fears. While New Blood has been mostly great, there's been areas of sloppy writing. Some are noticeable and weaken the show a bit, none of them felt like it went too far, until last episode, which easily the weakest and sloppiest by far. Before I get to the new episode I do want to vent my frustrations on the last.

Dexter is kidnapped, isn't restrained in any way, is left with a tool he uses to remove a ziptie, and when the car crashes he conveniently flies through the window of the car unharmed so he can run away?! What... Then Dexter gets shot in the leg by a rifle and just walks it off?! Stupidest hit man, and invincible Dexter.

Dexter, injured, somehow losses the hitman and finds some cabin, where the hitman eventually arrived and he kills. Dexter literally left a trail of his own blood to a murder scene... that entire place is filled with insane amounts of evidence against Dexter. Dude is caught! It's over, pack it up. Also did he do with the body?

Meanwhile, the Kurt and Harrison scenes that were pretty good but it also had that egregiously cliche baseball scene with flashback transitions and sound effects haha, it was unintentionally funny for me. Plus, why is Kurt doing all of this with him? More chances of him being spotted with the kid who's about to disappear. Why do all this to kill him? And of course Dexter gets there with perfect timing just like a hero. Let's let Kurt get away too, so we can extend the plot! Oh and that wasn't even the worst part.

Don't get me started on the flimsy connections Angela makes. That was so goofy. And it all culminates with a google search?! And one that is wrong, Dexter used M99, not ketamine, which was never a Ben proven. Giant plot hole. Angela is the only competent cop in the entire town, she finds all of this out on her own. What about these small details given in the moment they're found and only now Angela puts it together?

Last episode was just sloppy and silly. I did still like it though, it was a more exciting episode, the Kurt and Harrison dinner scene was great, and I do like how Angela is finally discovering Dex, another Dex kill is cool, and Dex finally being honest with Harrison, but I digress! This is a review for the new episode, sorry I had to get that off my chest. This was the best episode and a massive improvement.

Harrison and Dexter finally being (more) honest with each other was great. Michael C Hall is always excellent but I'm very surprised by Harrison's actor who totally holds his own. I love seeing a flashback to old Dexter with that creepy clown. I really like the semi-4th wall breaks as he tells the story to Harrison, while ghost Deb debates with Dexter what exactly to tell him. I'm a bit annoyed he held off the fact that he kills, but we're finally moving forward, and seemingly in the endgame. This episode was also more reasonable with the issues from the last, we see Dexter did actually take the hit man's body, and Angela looking at more evidence to connect Dexter and the Bay Harbor Butcher. Still feels too flimsy but it's a bit better.

I am also glad this episode is much longer, almost being an hour long, compared to some of the last episodes which were only a little over 40 minutes long. It's finally nice to see Harrison and Dexter bond, while Harrison has totally valid reasons for how he acts, it was getting a little annoying with his angst. I do not love most of the high school drama, especially Audrey, but it's not as weak as it could be, and everything else with Harrison is great. This episode was also surprisingly funny, not only with the semi-4th wall breaks but also with the Dexter and Harrison scenes like the ugly Christmas sweaters. The Christmas vibe was cool, and then when Kurt finally comes the tension kept building up.

The cinematography is really great, there were many striking visuals, like the blood moon, burning house, etc. That's easily what New Blood has done better than the first 8 seasons. Dexter and Harrison going out to get Kurt is so tense and exciting. The conversation of Harrison and Dexter with the drone getting closer to revealing their true feelings about their killer instinct was so well acted and tense. Then Dexter losing it with ghost Deb, it was just exciting. However, this episode wasn't without its flaws. Why did Dexter leave his house's lights on, and Kurt thinks pouring gasoline all over the house wouldn't have been noticed by them inside? Wouldn't Kurt do this being sure they're there? And of course luckily Dexter and Harrison were gone. I don't know, while a cool scene, it didn't really make sense. I love Clancy Brown's acting though! Especially when he finds out that Dexter is in his trophy room. His rage is always funny, but menacing. Though Dexter could've just broke or covered the camera! But whatever.

The last third of the episode was amazing. Dexter and Harrison discovering Kurt's horribly creepy trophies, as the tension rose up with Kurt chasing after them, and the reveal that Molly had already been killed. So great! Dexter finally admitting he's a killer to Harrison, and Harrison being okay with it. Man it was so cathartic I got chills. And then Dexter and Harrison finally getting Kurt. The last scene was great, I loved Tom Clancy as Kurt, definitely one of the better villains of the show, I would've wished we got more with him though. His justification was so insane, especially with Dexter countering it, and even relating to him. But man, Kurt revealing the flimsy nature of Dexter's code infront of Harrison and him started to question it, if just a little, absolutely brilliant. I always thought they needed to make this clear, Dexter is evil. Kurt's killing and the blood triggering Harrison was so good.

This was just the culmination of the season up until this point. Definitely the best episode. Everything was at its peak, especially the performances. I only wish Kurt didn't get killed so easily. Kurt leaving the parting gift of evidence his son was killed by Dexter leaves Angela is left in a very tough spot. The finale is going to be so interesting. If this is really the end I hope it isn't Angela who stops him, but maybe he'll be exposed and it'll set up for a final season. That's my hope because I don't want a rushed finale, I can't really see a way they end this off satisfyingly, though at least this season is better than the worst ones. This episode definitely left me satisfied and hungry for the next episode after I've felt a little apprehensive here and there. Let's see what happens, at least a better finale than the last one, and hopefully a good one. Or maybe another season?! I don't want them to milk it but I would love a manhunt season. Overall simply an amazing episode.

Tonight's the night...Dexter finally comes home
leonthesleepy3 January 2022
With this episode, i fully believe New Blood should go on to have another season. The way they brought back both familiar elements and merged them with the new is incredible.

This is one of THE BEST revival seasons i have seen of any show. It grows the characters up nicely without ever forgetting where they came from.

No spoilers, but the inner turmoil within Dexter, the writing, and the pacing is at the peak of Dexter. No fat, just thrilling television.

Angela did something that the whole Miami Metro couldn't..
rabdulatif3 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Overall the episode was good! Ioved the fact that Harrison saw Dexter's dark passenger! But besides that ... Angela's investigation on Dexter! Seriously??? She got Dexter in a few days using GOOGLE and the podcast of a chick who talks about her hunch about the bay harbor butcher's case! Angela did what the whole Miami metro couldn't do!! The writing is poor regarding Angela's story.

I really hope that there will be a 2nd season or the finale will give us some satisfaction bc what happened in this episode is absurd. I hope Dexter's ending won't be based on google and some stupid podcast.

This was by far the best and most exciting episode of the series. The acting was great as it has been since the beginning and let's be honest this is what all of us die hard Dexter fans wanted as soon as Harrison was introduced. I will close by saying that Kurt is by far the most sick and foul Murderer dexter has encountered! By the episodes end you will see why.

Wow this episode was incredible. It left me realizing how much I had missed Dexter (the earlier seasons in particular) and that I kinda wish this wasn't a one off mini-series and they will carry New Blood on. However, I guess all good things come to an end, and this next episode will give me the ending I will remember instead of the disaster that was S8EP12.

The best episode so far but still mediocre
mamet-947133 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
So much lazy writing to fit the narrative and "fans" (if you were real fans you'd demand better writing) just gobble it up.

Remember the previous episode where there was a car crash on the highway with a broken window that Dexter flew out of? You're telling me no one found that car? Nobody investigated the blood trails?

Also, wasn't Dexter shot in the leg with a riffle? He seems to have healed overnight or maybe he did get treatment and the hospital just didn't report a gunshot wound to the police....

Also, we are to believe that Dexter, with his fine tuned senses, doesn't realize his cop girlfriend is being all cold and distant? C'mon.

Also, Harrison was almost Kurt's victim and he recovers from that trauma after a night's sleep!

The only interesting thing in the episode was the father sins revisits the son culmination but the episode was substandard.

Demand better writing people, stop giving such a high score for such a mediocre show.

...and business is good.
douglasmcbroom2 January 2022
Well, this penultimate episode was the best of the series, thus far. It just took way too long to get here. It's as if the cast and crew are finally rounding into shape just as the series comes to a close. The humor that is essential to the success of 'Dexter' was back. Jack Alcott had his best episode. Plot wise and direction, it recaptured that old 'Dexter' suspense.

We had to endure only one of Debs tiresome, profane tirades and only had to endure the insufferable podcaster from her voice on her website. All good. Clancy Brown continued with his compelling character and performance.

The finale is well and truly teed up.

"Dexter: New Blood" continues to be better than anyone had any right to expect!
stevesinger-20014 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
"Dexter: New Blood" continues to be the most pleasant surprise on television in a long while. "The Family Business" continues the story and wraps up one of the major plotlines, setting up what looks to be a gut-wrenching finale, whether it be for the season or the series.

This episode has one of my favorite moments in it; when Harrison asks how many time Dexter has done this, Dexter replies "In the hundreds." After a pause, Harrison says, "Then you've saved thousands of innocent lives." Dexter smiles and in the voice-over says, "That's right, I did." What a wonderful callback to the Season 1 finale, where Dexter's fantasy is for everyone to know what he's done and to praise him for it.

Also, the interpersonal relationships continue to shine through. Deb's ghost hugging Dexter begging him not to tell Harrison the truth, Dexter overwhelmed with emotion when Harrison gives him the drawing of Deb, the ever-changing dynamics between Dexter/Jim and Angela as well as between Harrison and Audrey... so well done. And I love that Angela is figuring everything out... in the original series, Dexter was always asking, "Why hasn't anybody discovered me? I'm right here under their noses." As the forensic specialist, I think he always somehow knew that if anyone focused on him, they'd discover his secret. And that's what Angela did.

Can't recommend this series and this episode highly enough. Now all they need to do is stick the landing next episode.
