Maybe the studios need to strike for better writing
spmeerschaert28 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not trying to beat a dead horse here, and I know the concensus is already "this was bad," but I think we need to point the finger in the right directions.

#1 This was a really poorly written show. There was no care given to continuity, consistency, or logic. There were loads of habitable planets the Skrulls could have taken that were already in MCU movies. The severely contaminated base somwhow had no ill effect on the dozen humans that soent months there. Fury didn't ask any Avengers for help because reasons (oh, and it was critically important to his plan to give Gravik and G'iah nearly unlimited power, also for reasons).

I'm not saying this was the worst written MCU product, because Love & Thunder happened, but it was a total dud.

Also, Sam L. Jackson really stunk it up. Sorry, but he did. This was much more 'Snakes on a Plane' than it was 'A Time to Kill.'

Little bit disappointed
qythhcgs26 July 2023
I can't say I was massively excited for this show after the recent marvel run but between Episodes 2-5 I was in and really enjoying it.

The finale however, typical marvel.

Big soulless CGI battle that looked like the end of FF: Rise of the silver surfer. No major character development or anything to change the characters moving forward, no just a "cliffhanger" for future MCU projects, wonder where they got this unique idea.

In summary, marvel make character development and storytelling your main focus because I really am worried for the future of the MCU. I think the audience are too smart to not see through this and no one will want to come back to see the fulfilment of the story if it's not worth the time or money.

Warning: Spoilers
By the end it was clear that Secret Invasion should had just been a television movie for Disney Plus.

This was the finale and I felt it was underwhelming. Gravik and Fury had a showdown where Gravik finally get to tell Fury just how he felt about him. How Fury cynically used the Skrulls as his personal assassin squad. Gravik's human face was the first human he killed.

The fight scene between Gravik and G'iah was probably meant to be epic. Two super strength Skrulls battling it out but it was all humdrum.

Finally President Ritson declaring all off world alien species to be enemy combatants was just silly to the extreme. Someone should tell him that some of the Avengers are off world.

Secret Invasion wanted to be a conspiracy thriller in the style of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It failed.

Just Mediocre and Forgettable [6/10]
panagiotis199326 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
My Reaction / Review for Secret Invasion Season 1 Episode 6: Episode 5 was good and I gave it a rating is 7.5/10. This is the season finale so I expect something good (it isnt). So Fury will try to beat Gravik alone? Fury looks very sick, didn't know radiation could do that to someone. Gravik 2.0 looks like Hulk lol. What is going on, im confused. So Fury changed his DNA and now he has Avengers' powers? So I guess he was pretending to be sick or something? Wow, wait a minute! It was Giah! Not Fury, that was a crazy twist for me, didn't expect that. So its that easy to get someone elses powers? That's so weird. Based on that why not create thousands of superpowered soldiers or Avengers?

The fight between Giah and Gravik was meh. The way she killed Gravik feels wrong, he was supposed to be a ''big threat''... the CGI was a bit mediocre too but that wasnt the main problem. Isnt it a bit too much having the president saying that he will kill all Skrulls? Makes no sense to me, most Skrulls just need a place to call home. So we have random people killing Skrulls, how do they know who is a Skrull? Nosense. Wow this was very mediocre, also many things didn't make sense. Does that mean we will get season 2? Not that I care much... My rating is 6/10.

This Show Is a Joke
MamadNobari9726 July 2023
Good job on the writers solving the conflict that was supposedly "built up" by 5 previous seasons in 5 minutes.

It's really a really hard achievement to make a 30-minute finale that feels like an hour and you want it to end so badly.

It is just baffling to imagine what the high budget of this show went to. My guess is Samuel L. Jackson needed a new yacht or something because 80% of this show is just people talking inside rooms and rundown buildings. I guess the usual Marvel big CGI fight of the finale could also justify it a little bit. What I don't understand, is that if the budget of the show is movie-level high, then why not make a movie or a tv movie? If you're not making low-budget shows, then why do they look like it? Also fun fact, Oppenheimer cost half the budget of this show.

I've been too lenient on my MCU shows' and their episodes' ratings, but I just cannot anymore. This is just another boring trash after the previous boring trash. The only good thing that came out of MCU shows was Loki and the first 80% of WandaVision.

This show is just a joke. It was episode 2 I think that was nearly 50 minutes and I thought "Oh good, at least this show isn't gonna be half an hour like every other one" and thought they were gonna be 6 one-hour episodes. And what a fool I was. I knew I shouldn't put much faith into a Disney Plus show.

Gravik is just one of the worst villains I've seen in a while after that woman villain from Mrs. Marvel. It's like I don't even know if this show had actual professional writers or if they actually made an AI watch the entire MCU and write them a new script. I honestly wouldn't put it past them, they made the intro with AI after all.

I also love how confidently the writers put so much focus on Fury and his wife as if one single person watching this gives a flying fork about literally any character or the story, if there is even a story.

This is just awful, and unless you want to waste 4 or whatever hours of your time like Joker burns money, stay away from this trash.

A bit silly, bad cgi, but conclusive I guess...
Mathi-Juice26 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Just another rushed mcu series finale unfortunately.

On one hand it's really action packed, conclusive, fast paced ,... but on the other hand: Silly, absurd, rushed, cheap writing and bad cgi. Did Guardians take up all the good cgi or what's happening? Every time we watch an mcu project we have to pray and hope for decent special effects.

The fight feels really silly for me. Like someone just wrote it in last minute to have a "cool" end-battle. That's how these shows always end.

Again; not terrible, just out of tone with the rest of the series in my opinion.

We do have some answers and conclusions. Emilia Clarkes character is probably gonna be very important going forward. Don Cheadle was great as skrull Rhody and now the real one is back, it sets up nicely for Armor Wars.

I guess I'm kinda hyped for these things but hope going forward these shows with incredible potential aren't as rushed.

Waste of Time
mataidixiong26 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
That really was a disappointing end to a very disjointed show. The world has been left in a worse state than it started and Fury seems oddly ok with that.

Gravik really did amount to nothing in the end. Now we have Gaia as the most overpowered superhero in the universe and it just feels...meh. That was entirely forgettable, a generic superhero v same same supervillain CGIfest.

I wanted this show to be good but it really wasn't and this plain and simple, may be the worst show finale of all the Marvel shows.

Not really sure where they go from her but I don't really care. Maybe Marvel fatigue has got me now too.

Solid Finale - Concluded the Gravik arc well but the story is far from over
zacharyygreenberg26 July 2023
The season finale of Secret Invasion basically had what you would expect from a Marvel show. Big final CGI battle, rushed ending, and not so much closure. However, the dialogue, acting, and characters explored in this episode are top-notch. Gravik's speech is gut-wrenching and you truly understand the pain and suffering he's felt over the years. Fury and Varra have some emotional romantic scenes together that were done very well.

Could it have been better? Yes. Probably should have had longer run time.

I also did not like the president being a total ding-dong and then deciding to declare World War on the Skrulls out of nowhere and without much thought.

Anyways, was a solid finale.

Season One Review
southdavid28 July 2023
I'm going to review this as the end of the season rather than of the series, though I doubt whether the show will return at any point in the future as it feels like the story is told. Whilst I don't think that "Secret Invasion" was bad, it did feel lowkey and am not sure why it fits into the wider story here.

Since the Skrull's arrived on Earth, Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson) has employed them as an army of covert operatives across the world. Over the years, though, his failure to provide them with a new home of their own, as well as the nature of the operations he's sent them on had led to frustration and a young Alien, Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir) leads a secretive uprising, replacing high ranking Government officials with Skrulls and orchestrating a conflict to bring the World to the brink of war.

So, it's not that the show has nothing going for it. The performances, from one of the best casts ever assembled for an MCU project, are great. Particularly from Kingsley Ben-Adir - who continues the recent Marvel mini-trend of allowing British actors to use a wider range of accents. Erin Kelleyman used her own in "Falcon and The Winters Soldier" and here Ben-Adir adopts a South Wales tone. Olivia Coleman, Charlayne Woodard and Emelia Clarke join the MCU - as well as returning Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn and Don Cheadle.

The special effects are patchy. Generally, the Skrull effect is practical, and that's fine but the CGI blending in human and alien elements as particularly some aspects of the climactic battle are awful.

It's worst problem though is that it doesn't feel like it carries any stakes. I'm guessing that essentially, it's an elaborate prequel to "The Marvels" fleshing out a Skrull storyline for that film. They're not confident enough with this to make any major retconning of what we've seen before beyond one character and even that doesn't resonate as we don't see enough of the real aftermath for that to affect us. It also comes at a weird time. It feels like the Multiverse storyline should be the focus of the MCU at the moment, so teasing and then not really delivering what could or perhaps should be another major storyline doesn't make sense.

As ever with a Marvel property, there are a bunch of characters that I'd like to see come back and a few strands of the story that can be worked back in. Though I genuinely didn't dislike this, I'm still left wondering what it was for.

Marvel has a problem worse than superhero fatigue
rmmil27 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Let's call it, "superhero disinterest", never in my life have I seen a Marvel series where the majority opinion online seems to be..."who cares?" Worse than fatigue, these series are making people actively dislike Marvel content more.

This series would've been better off just not existing. Pretend like nothing that happened actually happened and I bet 80% of the audience would be okay with that.

Gravik was just the most boring and pointless dude. His showdown match I just did not care about. CGI vomit.

But yeah, after another episode of mostly talking, I'd say it's pretty obvious 95% of this budget went to bloated salaries, because it looked awful. Grey, dull, lifeless.

The worst part though has to be the low stakes world-impacting nature of this whole series. So much happening and it's all so "important" but none of it mattering, you could easily skip this entire series and it will have no impact on your ability to follow Marvel going forward.

Skip it.

what are people whining about now. it was a good finale
augustew1 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Its funny to see people whine about this finale was. I mean come on the president almost died. And the mcu is in even more chaos then ever before. It sets up brave new world and sets up the marvels.

For me the finale was good. It was a good way to end the secret invasion storyline and wrap up the mini series.

Is it the best finale of all time. Not really but is it really the worst. Absolutely not. I would say the mcu would be dead and ruined when it has no where to go. And im glad Kevin feige has figured out a way to keep the mcu fresh. With introduction to storylines that were introduced in the comics.

*Daughtry intensifies
Trey_Trebuchet26 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This was probably the safest route they could have taken the finale, which is a bit disappointing. This whole show was truly different from the rest of the MCU. Little to no comedic relief, some legit thrills, bloody violence, and even some okay twists and turns.

And it all led to exactly what one would expect from a Marvel series finale; a CGI-fight, set up for new characters, and a main character donning his new (old) suit (and eye patch).

Honestly though, this was a good show overall. I enjoyed every episode, the acting, the premise and the directing. It's different enough from the other Marvel products, which means the ones who didn't much love it will likely forget about it, and the ones who likes it well enough will remember it as a change of pace regardless of the finale.

I actually didn't mind the secret marriage between Fury and Varra. That at least got a reasonably fulfilling moment. I would have liked a brawl between Fury and Gravik, but Gravik fighting G'iah wasn't so bad I guess. Plus, Fury gets the satisfaction of offing the one pretending to be Rhodes.

Overall, a good show, but maybe one I'll tell people was just "fine", not stellar or one of their better projects. I was fine with this different approach with Nick Fury, I really did like all of the acting and production, and it did legitimately feel like a breath of fresh air, ending aside.

So... good not great.

Worst superhero episode of all time and a ruined show
namob-4367326 July 2023
By far the worst episode of the show and really badly done. Nothing they set up is paid off, and the cheap look and feel of the show reach a new highpoint of misery.

Fury is turned into a really dumb old man. Who thought that was a good idea?

And where did the money go? How can this show cost more than a few millions in total? We have had two decently expensive battles, and some CGi, but nothing special. So where did the budget go? Was it Samuel's salary?

But the worst of the worst is that GI'ah is now the most powerful being in the universe. She has Thanos's power, and everyone else's. I thought that was so horrible I needed to stop watching. I actually turned it off. I still don't know how the last minutes ended the show. Absolutely horrible episode that ruined the entire thing.

1/10 for the episode, and I need to reduce the score of the show considerably. I liked this show initially, but this is unforgivable. Probably the worst moments of the entire MCU, or any superhero stuff, I have ever seen. Stunningly bad. Horrendously bad.

So Underwhelming
pablo_velasan27 July 2023
The series started of quite good and the first 3 episodes were building up to a good story but then they started to drop off, this episode took a jump into an endless pit.

I don't know what is it with Marvel and 6 episode series but this is clearly not working. There isn't enough time to build up the story and give it a good finale. It seems that Marvel didn't know how to finish the story and that they hired some 10 year old to finish it like a kid would, banging all of their toys against each other.

I'm not sure what is next for MCU but the future clearly is not looking bright, specially with movies like the Marvels that seems to be a continuation of sorts for this series, surely it will bomb at the box office given the path marvel is taking. It was always going to go downhill after Endgame but I didn't want expect it'd be so steep.

Nope. This is all there is.
notavampirecullen27 July 2023
I held off reviewing this series until I watched it through, since it was really dull throughout, and I was hoping for an ending that elevated the whole. No such luck. Episode six was the weakest of the bunch.

I am staggered that they could make a show featuring shape-shifting aliens that can literally impersonate anyone, and still have it be boring. It was not fun. It was not funny. It lacked the "wow" moments you hope to get from a superhero story. Watching it was just a slog.

I understand they were going for Nick Fury in a story with an international espionage vibe, and I'm all-in for something like that. But those stories usually have clever plots and unexpected twists.

The best thing I can say about Secret Invasion is that it wad only six episodes. What a waste of Sam Jackson, Emilia Clark, Don Cheadle and Olivia Coleman. Good actors all, whose performances were squandered.

This is Marvel
ali_abs126 July 2023
The final episode of secret invasion is the cherry on top of this great series, full of action and suspense and kept me waiting to see what is going to happen and how will this end. It is full of MCU easter eggs that marvel fans will enjoy while not being a full fan service episode. It is deep, dark, and exciting.

Major character development and serious path shifting events for this cinematic universe. The end really makes you hooked for the future of the MCU and how will everything will change after that, especially that it is a series and not a blockbuster movie that can be as ambitious....

S01E06 - Again, boring, low-budget and sub-scale
frank_ack26 July 2023
Yet again, this series is determined to underwhelm in every way.

After the dross of the previous episodes, MCU fans will want, at least, a final episode that redeems the whole sorry show.

This is not it.

As with the whole of this series, it is under-funding and sub-scale. Even the one fight scene between the protagonists fails to deliver.

The MCU reached its peak with EndGame.

Since then it has focused on quantity over quality, mundane storylines filled with superficial sub-plots and a total inability to create a meaningful narrative universe that engages with the audience.

Instead we're now expected to accept a continuous offering of mini soap-operas focused on emotional needs of minor characters.

Just wowful in every way.

Best Marvel Tv series yet, Samuel L. Jackson makes his comeback in Secret Invasion.
moviesfilmsreviewsinc21 December 2023
The Marvel comic book series, Avengers: Endgame, was replaced by a new character, Rhodey, who has political influence but lacks physical power. The main characters were Everett K. Ross, the MCU's most divorced man, and Rhodey, who has failed his wife and the species for unknown reasons. The show's central themes, both politically and dramatically, were mishandled throughout its run, resulting in a less creative and interesting experience. In "Home," Nick takes DNA samples from the Avengers: Endgame battlefield to Gravik in Russia. However, it's G'iah (Emilia Clarke), not Nick. Nick tells Gravik that he tried to find a home for the Skrulls but couldn't, and it was easier to protect them from humans. The truth of this explanation remains unclear, as it's not even Nick offering it. The second G'iah is revealed as a Nick imposter, making it difficult to determine the truth. G'iah must tell herself to continue fighting the good fight. The film follows G'iah and Gravik, two powerful beings in the galaxy, as they are boosted by the Super Skrull machine, resulting in a Marvel CGI battle. However, the effects are unremarkable, and the outcome is not particularly engaging. G'iah's victory over Gravik is unclear, and her agreement with Sonya (Olivia Colman) to be used as an asset to humanity seems false. CGI Gravik is dispatched without much trouble, but the high stakes and his villain's interest are not convincing. The Skrull villain, who was about to start a nuclear war, is only shown a few scenes, and his Skrull villainry may be remembered as a flop despite his merciless killing of Maria Hill and Talos. Despite his involvement in Secret Invasion and Barbie, his Skrull villainry may be remembered as a flop. Secret Invasion is a Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) show that deals with the future through throwaway lines and sweeping issues. The show does not have any wild finale twists, and the characters Rhodey and Ross are fine. The Super Skrull machine can be chucked in the ocean next to a giant Celestial corpse from Eternals. Clarke's future Super Skrull appearances are not looking forward, as the dodgy CGI punch-up may confuse viewers. Despite the nonsense, the show has some good aspects. Olivia Colman is consistently brilliant, and Jackson and Cheadle try their best to make the scripts interesting with committed performances. Visually, excluding the CGI, Secret Invasion is the best-looking of the MCU shows to date, with excellent lighting and interesting design choices. The show attempts to explore political and sociological ideas about the plight of refugees and how we respond to people we consider to be outsiders, with "attempt" being the operative word. The episode concludes with high-ranking government and organization members being freed from captivity as their Skrull counterparts are discovered. However, millions of Skrull refugees replace citizens, causing social paranoia and xenophobia. The U. S. government condemns Gravik's actions and turns against the entire Skrull species, leading deranged groups to rise up against anyone who might be a Skrull. Sonya Falsworth seems to have a plan for G'iah and the Skrulls, who want to find a new home and stop messing with Earth. A second season could provide answers, but the Skrull-centric plot threads may be resolved elsewhere. The show feels like a restrained season 1, leaving us uncertain about the future of this side of the MCU. Rumors suggest Skrulls playing a significant role in the upcoming Armor Wars show-turned-movie, as The Marvels faces a different cosmic threat.

I wasn't excited about his finale, but wow...
adame112427 July 2023
I am startled at how bad this series ended. None of the episodes were what I hoped for, but honestly this final episode was just mind boggling. I don't understand what happened, but this show never should have been made if they never intended to put any kind of thought into it. I do hope this series was written by AI, it would give the writers guild a lot more power in their strike.

The acting wasn't bad, the story was just consistently nonsensical. If this is the quality we can expect from Disney going forward, I strongly recommend they sell to Apple. I feel like most of us fans will not be sticking around for any more of this nonsense. Try harder please...

A poor end to a poor season
danny-harris6726 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Unfortunately Secret Invasion's final episode was yet another letdown. Poor CGI, weak writing and a lack of any surprises or twists meant that this episode falls flat. Fury gives in to Gravik, who then powers himself with all the powers of the avengers (That alone doesn't make sense), only for Fury to be Ghia in disguise. Why would Gravik be surprised by this? Now Ghia is the most powerful being in the universe, only to wander off at the end of the episode with no real plan for the future of the skrulls. Fake Rhodey gets killed in a standoff without stakes or tension and the president decides to hunt down all of the skrulls which is strange considering how resistant he was to the idea of any war previously. There was so much potential for this show and it feels so wasted, such a shame!

Also there's no post credits, which at this point just feels like Marvel are being lazy. This would have been the perfect show to have a post credits, either with Captain Marvel or the new Captain America setting up brave new world. Another disappointment.

4/10.

Cool action scene but unmmm what a waste
harry-3451826 July 2023
Whilst this episode has an awesome action scene one of the best we've had in a Disney plus show to date. The rest is just well mediocre? Secret invasion now stands as marvels most pointless exercise to date killing characters it didn't need to in service of an undeserving narrative. This episode leaves to many unanswered question something we can't afford to have in the mcu at the moment as we have no actual idea when these questions will be answered. Performances as always were great and Emilia Clark was really able to finally get her moment in this episode and I'm actually really excited to see where G'iah goes next but that's the issue we as an audience have no idea when we are going to see her next.

Underwhelming end to a mostly pointless show
kakhavan27 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Suggesting Rhodey has been a skrull since civil war is profoundly stupid. Consider the fact that it retroactively taints avengers 3 and 4. Do you mean to tell me one of the last people Stark saw before his death was an alien disguised as his best friend who also showed up to his funeral? So in the five years of the blip it was some random alien bonding with the avengers? An alien, by the way, that dies immediately. Waste of a character. Waste of Maria Hill and Talos. All three of these characters plus Gravik die unceremonious, uninteresting, bland deaths.

Maybe that's the point right? Because this is a "grounded show"? Nope. The plot devolves into a 1.5 minute cgi-fest which ends 5 episodes of "build-up". No one learns anything. Nick is the same guy as last we saw him. The only thing we've accomplished is giving Emilia Clark the cheat codes to adopt every single superpower, and kill off the two characters that made the show interesting.

Mediocre end to a mid show. Save your time and rewatch the Winter Soldier.

Lame ending to a boring series
storm_breaker29 July 2023
Though I'm not a fan of recent Marvel movies or TV shows, my hopes were high after watching the trailer. The expectation of a good spy thriller was shattered in the first episode itself.

The show is bad overall. Writers failed to come up with an engaging script. Even the dialogues seemed off with no emotion or genuineness.

The guy who played the main villain did his job okay. Emilia Clarke was fine as well. Samule L Jackson tried but couldn't save his character from bad writing.

This series probably has the most fake action scenes in a Marvel series. How could the director just waste the characters such as James Rhodey and Everett Ross like the way he did. Climax leaves us totally unsatisfied.

The Secret Invasion of My Time and Energy
bladechamber29 July 2023
I have never been a fan of the 6 episode format. 6 episodes are not enough for a writer to efficiently tell the story that they wanna tell. But this show has proved to me that it's not just about the episode limit, but also that Disney is making AI write for them. So yeah, I think these Disney + shows are the true downfall of the MCU. There was absolutely nothing compelling or interesting about the plot.

There were loose characters being moved around on the board with no direction. What was the point of sacrificing Hill in the very first episode? What purpose did it even serve? Fury did not even mourn her. Since when has Rhodey been imprisoned by the scrulls? The director says he thinks Rhodey has been a scrull since civil war. Is this a joke? You are telling me that he suddenly switched personalities after end game but he was the same scrull?

This show is garbage.

Another Underwhelming Finale
SHU_Movies26 July 2023
This has been no different to the finales of other MCU shows. Except for a few pretty cool moments, it was a sloppy, underwhelming, and rushed series finale that doesn't give me much hope for the movies to come. This episode has opened-up several cans of worms that will come back to bite the studio and their writers very soon

It was just a very unremarkable episode. I really liked a lot of this series, and although there was definitely potential for a great finale after the setup from the previous episode, it just didn't do anything on a technical level really worth talking about

I really don't want to get into spoiler territory here, but if you're a fan of *other* Marvel media and you've heard rumours of a certain character or two appearing in this episode, don't get your hopes up. You will wind-up disappointed just like me.
