#VoiceOfSathyanathan – A decent to good family drama with Dileep in top form. 1st half mostly relied on humour which saw turn in Sathyanathan 's life somewhat before interval mark. 2nd half has all the ingredients of an entertainer & got worked out to a good extent.

The last official day of Overlook arrived, and I was pleased to spend it watching a double feature of Joe Dante’s Matinee (a special 30th anniversary screening) and William Castle’s 1959 film The Tingler. The double header was programmed by Dante himself, and after the screening I was scheduled to conduct a 20-minute interview with the director. I’d seen Matinee before, and upon re-watch was struck again by how lush and detailed each aspect of the film’s production is. The set decoration only creeps up on ‘60s-era pastiche, managing to evoke nostalgic memory more than hokey over-stylization. Even the wardrobe […]

All of Joe Dante‘s films revolve around distinctly American paranoias—consumerism, threats to the nuclear family, suburban Nimby sensibilities—but none feel more entrenched in a tangible era of American anxiety than Matinee. Now 30 years old, the film takes place during the height of the Cuban Missile Crisis, centering B-movie shlock jockey Lawrence Woolsey, who lands in a panicked Key West, Florida for a promotional screening of his radioactive new horror film Mant Both enraptured and horrified by the real-world implications Woolsey’s film hints at (nuclear disfigurement, neighborhoods-turned-warzones, the […]

In the theater, someone screams. The lights come up, and the crowd sees two paramedics race down the aisle. Then, suddenly, Vincent Price’s voice booms from behind the screen. “Ladies and gentlemen, there is no cause for alarm,” Price announces from the past, his voice the only sign that today’s screening does indeed continue. “She’s being attended to by a doctor and is quite alright.” As the crowd laughs and then begins to cheer, the two paramedics – who bear a striking resemblance to the festival programmers – carry the woman out on a stretcher.

Attending The Overlook Film Festival in New Orleans last year was one of my favorite horror experiences of the decade thus far, and Daily Dead is proud to return as one of the sponsors for this year's festival, taking place March 30th–April 2nd!

Hocus Pocus star Omri Katz is returning to Salem this Halloween! The actor, who played Max Dennison in the perennial favorite, will be in the historic Massachusetts town for a pair of special events on October 22.
Katz will appear at Silver Moon Comics from 1-5pm for a signing followed by a Hocus Pocus screening and Q&a at 7pm at Cinema Salem. Both locations are in the Witch City Mall. Less than 25 tickets are left for the screening before it sells out, so grab one soon for 35. The signing does not require a ticket.
At the age of 17, Katz starred in the 1993 film alongside Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy, Thora Birch, and Vinessa Shaw. Kenny Ortega directed from a script by Mick Garris (Masters of Horror) and Neil Cuthbert (Mystery Men).

Portugal’s Matiné Mines for ‘Gold’ in Rotterdam With Brazilian Director Madiano Marcheti (Exclusive)
Luis Campos’ Portuguese label Matiné has boarded “Mother of Gold,” the sophomore feature from Brazilian director Madiano Marcheti, which was selected for the Rotterdam Film Festival’s CineMart co-production market.
Set in a rural town in a remote corner of the Amazon rainforest, the film tells the story of a troubled woman trying to overcome her past and reconnect with her estranged son, who was kicked out of the house when his father refused to accept his sexuality.
After a group of prospectors invades the neighboring hillside in search of gold, the woman starts to have mysterious dreams. As the visions intensify, she slowly comes to realize that the hill itself appears to be calling her.
Speaking to Variety ahead of CineMart, Marcheti described “Mother of Gold” as a deeply personal film inspired by the difficult process of coming out to his family, as well as the connection he has...

Photo: 'The Last Matinee' Director Max Contenti sets the horror genre back a couple of decades with his Uruguayan slasher movie, 'The Last Matinee', and the genre is all the better for it. Although it takes place in the year 1993, 'Matinee' has remnants of the 70s and 80s horror tropes woven into its fabric, making it easier for Contenti's work to appeal to a wide variety of generations. The killer is a terrifying shout-out to the kind of inhuman slashers that used to represent and symbolize these particular brands of scares. The villain, appropriately named the Eyeball Killer, is much more human than other predators with his Mo, but somehow that just adds to the Eyeball Killer's petrifying aura. He carries with him the haunting reminder that everyone is capable of great, unrelenting evil, and some, like the Eyeball Killer, even feel like they...

To mark the release of Over the Edge, out now, we’ve been given 2 copies to give away on Blu-ray.
Over The Edge – available now on Blu-ray from Arrow Video – is an incendiary ode to teen rebellion that quickly became a Gen X/punk-rock touchstone, and a key influence on filmmakers such as Richard Linklater and musicians like Kurt Cobain (who often cited it as his favourite film). Armed with a classic ‘70s rock soundtrack, energetic direction by Jonathan Kaplan (White Line Fever) and an intelligent script by Tim Hunter (River’s Edge) and Charlie Haas (Matinee), Over The Edge still packs a righteously powerful punch today, and makes its worldwide Blu-Ray debut with brand new bonus features interviewing the cast and crew.

Hunter S. Thompson liked to say “When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.” And monstrous times call for monstrous measures. As the coronavirus pandemic wreaks havoc on the movie industry, forcing major indoor theater chains to close and new movies to be released in miniature through streaming, the classic B-Movie film Dracula vs. Frankenstein (1971) will be seen on the big screens.
Veteran producer and B-movie showman, Sam Sherman, will take his newly restored reissue of the Independent-International Pictures library of B-Movie drive-in films on a retro roadshow. The camp classics tour will be screened across the nation on drive-in big screens. The road show kicks off on May 26 at the Circle Drive-In Theatre in Dickson city, Pennsylvania with a screening of the Al Adamson cult classic, Dracula vs. Frankenstein.

Whether you grew up watching Gremlins, The ’Burbs, Matinee, Small Soldiers, or The Hole, Joe Dante's films have spanned generations and given countless viewers something to lean on in their formative years and beyond into adulthood. While he's perhaps best known as a director, Dante is now paying it forward to the next generation of filmmakers (much like his friend Roger Corman) as an executive producer, with his latest project being Andy Palmer's Camp Cold Brook, a film that follows a team of paranormal investigators to a haunted summer camp where they encounter more than they bargained for when it comes to communicating with the other side.
With Camp Cold Brook now in theaters and on Digital and VOD from Shout! Studios, Daily Dead recently had the honor of speaking with Dante about working with Palmer and Shout! Factory on the new horror film. During our chat, Dante...

Today in 1953, Robert Picardo was born. Picardo’s first feature role was the star of Joe Dante’s The Howling, where he played Eddie Quist, the serial killer/werewolf. He went on to roles in most of Dante’s films, including The Burbs, Matinee, and Gremlins 2: The New Batch. You may not recognize him under layers of latex, but Picardo played […]

Filmmaker Joe Dante is cherished in the horror community for his wonderful work on films such as Gremlins, The Howling, and The ’Burbs, but perhaps one of his more under-seen (and recent) movies is The Hole. Through their multi-media brand Untold Horror, Dave Alexander and Mark Pollesel are looking to change that by celebrating Dante's 2009 fantasy horror film with a 3D screening at the Tcl Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles on Friday, November 30th, including a Q&A with Dante hosted by fellow filmmaker John Landis.
For more information, visit Fandango and Tcl Chinese Theatre online, and read on for the full announcement of The Hole screening and Q&A, which is expected to be the first of multiple Untold Horror events.
From the Press Release: Hollywood, CA - A rare 3-D screening of Joe Dante’s 2009 young adult horror classic The Hole will be held on November 30, 2018, at Hollywood’s legendary Tcl Chinese Theatre.

Trailers From Hell readers, as well as all film fans in the Los Angeles area, are getting a special treat this coming Friday evening, when Joe Dante’s marvelous 2010 3D thriller The Hole screens at the Tcl Chinese Theaters.
The event marks the official launch of the new multimedia brand Untold Horror which, according to the project’s press release, “was conceived as a brand dedicated to answering the question that genre fans often ask: ‘Whatever happened to that movie?’ The documentary series will explore the tantalizing projects that were announced but died in development hell, uncover the compelling unannounced projects by our favorite artists that fans have never heard about, and discover just what it would take to bring some of them back to life.”
All of which makes The Hole a perfect jewel with which to introduce a project with such a trajectory, being itself a movie which was highly anticipated,...

Joe Dante is a man who needs no introduction. Perhaps best known by our kind for Gremlins and The Howling, Joe Dante’s filmography spans from the 70’s with his directorial debut, Piranha, under Roger Corman, (fun fact: Piranha 2 was directed by James Cameron and also his first movie) to The Explorers, Innerspace, The Burbs, Matinee, Small Soldiers, and many more including my favorite segment […]

KollywoodThe reason seems to be financial disputes, but the film is likely to release in the evening.Tnm StaffNayanthara’s second release of this month, Imaikkaa Nodigal, directed by Ajay Gnanamuthu and produced by Cameo Films' Cj Jayakumar, was scheduled to hit the screens on Thursday, August 30. With tickets booked, eager fans from Tamil Nadu were disappointed to learn that the film’s morning and noon shows were cancelled in theatres across the state. The reason seems to be the financial disputes between the producer and rights holders. The film’s Kdm (Key Delivery Message) was not issued to start digital screening in theatres. A few theatres had announced that they’ll be playing Nayanthara’s Kolamaavu Kokila instead to compensate the already booked shows Many screens in Chengalpet area cancel #ImaikkaaNodigal Noon Show, as ‘financial settlements ‘ are still going on, may start from Matinee shows. pic.twitter.com...

The name Joe Dante should definitely be familiar to all of us who grew up in the eighties and beyond. He not only became a sensation when he directed films like The Howling and Gremlins, but Dante became a name synonymous with a comedic bite that helped shape many facets of cinema, including horror and the blockbuster.
Growing up as a kid from New Jersey who fell in love with the big screen, he went on to work with the legendary low budget producing magnate Roger Corman. Along with other filmmakers who became successful, he began to make a name for himself with projects including Hollywood Boulevard and the now forty-year-old homage to Jaws with deadly flesh-eating fish, Pirahna. His list of work is varied and all have a voice of their own, including Explorers, The Twilight Zone: The Movie, Gremlins 2, Innerspace, The ‘Burbs, Matinee, Small Soldiers and his acclaimed Masters of Horror episodes.
