The first film I saw, which I watched in a theater when it came out, that really challenged and moved me. It was entertaining, but had the feel of presenting to me something real and important and disturbing about the world that I didn't already know about. The movie got and remains under my skin because it doesn't let any of the characters who drive the conflict lapse into conventional, stereotypical stances that let the viewer off the hook. Mookie isn't supposed to be the one who throws that garbage can!
